Instruction 3015-4286 1 Introduction How to Use This Manual Thank you for investing in a BACHARACH AGMSZ (Ammonia Gas Monitor Single Zone). This manual provides im portant inform ation on ho w to instal l, operate, and serv ice the AGMSZ monitoring unit.
2 Instruction 3015-4286 Safety Precautions AC Power Supply The AGMSZ uses a universal power supply that is capable of accepting inputs of 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
Instruction 3015-4286 3 Functional Overview General Description Ammonia monitors are spec ified to support c ompliance to feder al, state and local saf ety codes governing gas emissions. Avoiding s ignificant amm onia loss reduces equipment r eplacement costs, mainta ins equipment effic iency, promotes sa fety, and prot ects the environ ment.
4 Instruction 3015-4286 Suggested Location of Sampling Point At the point of an amm onia gas leak the gas is nearly pur e. As ammonia gas is disperse d into the air, the gas molecules diffuse cau sing a dilution of the original co ncentration. The A GMSZ measures the gas concentration at the p oint the sample is col lected.
Instruction 3015-4286 5 Installation Installation Considerations Warnings and Cautions WARNING: Explosion hazard! Do not mount the AGMSZ in an area tha t may contain flammable liquids, vapors or aerosols. Operati on of any electrical equipment in such an environment constitute s a safety hazard.
6 Instruction 3015-4286 Mounting Instructions The AGMSZ should be ins talled plumb and le vel and securely fasten ed to a rigid mount ing surface. The enclosur e utilizes keyh ole mounting brack ets designed for #12 pan head s crews.
Instruction 3015-4286 7 Tubing Considerations Use ¼" outside diameter (0.040" wall) flex tubing for all a ir lines (P/N 304-2742 or equiva lent). The tubing should be clean and free of mo isture or other co ntam inants. The tubing should be cut cleanly with a sharp knife and care shou ld be taken not to d istort the tubing end.

Instruction 3015-4286 9 Electrical Wiring The AGMSZ uses a universal power supply that is capable of accepting inp uts of 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The monitor’s power consumption is 15 Watts. It is hig hly r ecommended th at th e monitor be connected directly to the AC power source, preferably on its own ci rcuit.
10 Instruction 3015-4286 Connecting External Alarms Overview The AGMSZ includes four SPDT relays whose contacts are rated 3 A at 240 VAC. These relays ar e used for the connection of ext ernal alarm devices that are act ivated when the rela y is energized.
Instruction 3015-4286 11 Typical External Alarm Relay 1 Wiring Jumper the ‘Neutral’ line of an external power source or the monitor’s AC input to the ‘Comm on’ terminals on the relay connector. Connect one end of the strobe or horn to the ‘NO’ terminal of whichever level of alarm is a ppropriate for the application.
12 Instruction 3015-4286 Notes:.
Instruction 3015-4286 13 Operation Front Panel Display and Controls General Operation Once the AGMSZ has been installed, set up, and powe red ON, t he monitor wil l make measurem ents in the area being sampl ed for ammonia gas with out further operator intervention.
14 Instruction 3015-4286 If a system fault occurs (see F ault Code list on Pag e 19), the monitor responds by turnin g ON the front panel SYSTEM FAULT (yello w) light and energ izing the fault relay. If the internal au dible alarm is turned ON, it too will activate ( AUDALRM page 16) .
Instruction 3015-4286 15 Function Screens The Function screens are used to display stored dat a and to set up the monitor. From the Data Display s creen, press any Keypad button to displa y the first Function Menu screen.

Refer to Working wi th the D IAGNOS Fu nctio n (Page 21). GASTYPE – Ammonia monitors do not have a library of other gases to choose from, therefore R717 is the only gas type listed.
Instruction 3015-4286 17 CLOCK – Sets the monitor’s date and time. Use th e Keypad to enter the correct date and time, and then press ENTER to save those valu es and return to the previous screen. Note that time is displayed in a 24 hour format, while the date is displayed as mm/dd/yy.
18 Instruction 3015-4286 Working with Gas Alarms Overview If the ammonia gas ppm level in the area b eing monitored exc eeds its preset Leak, Spill, o r Evacuate Alarm level (Page 16), the AGMS Z will detect this alarm condition and turn ON the fr ont panel ALARM light.
Instruction 3015-4286 19 Viewing the Fault Log From the Data Display s creen, use the Keypad buttons to place the arro w (>) on the display next to th e FAULTS fu nction. Then press EN TER to display the fault log. The fault log shows the monitor’s current fault stat us.
20 Instruction 3015-4286 Clearing the Stored PPM Log, Alarm & Fault Data Up to 200 gas measurements, and 30 alarm and fau lt events are stored by the monitor. To clear stored data, first display th e data to be cleared by using the PPM LOG , ALARMS or FAULTS function (Page 15).
Instruction 3015-4286 21 Working with the DIAGNOS Function Overview The DIAGNOS function displays sensor data and status in form ation useful to a service t echnician for troubleshooti ng various fault condit ions. Explan ations of the data shown in t hese screens are given b elow.
22 Instruction 3015-4286 Working with the Calibration Function Overview If greater than standard accuracy is desired, the factory’s default calibration factor of 1.000 may be adjusted by perform ing the calibratio n procedure as described bel ow, and then selec ting the monitor’ s CAL function to enter the new calibration fact or.
Instruction 3015-4286 23 Maintenance Warnings and Cautions WARNING: Always disconnect AC power before working inside the monitor.
