18 US Step 3: Connecting the Audio Cords Select one of the following patterns A or B , according to the input jack on your TV monitor, projector, or audio component such as an AV amplifier (receiver).
19 US Hookups A Audio L/R input jacks This connection will use your TV’s or audio component’s two speakers for sound. B Digital audio input jack If your audio component ha s a Dolby* 1 Digital or DTS* 2 decoder and a digital input jack, use this connection.
20 US Step 4: Connecting the Power Cord Plug the player and TV power cords into an AC outlet. Step 5: Preparing the Remote You can control the player using the supplied re mote. Insert two R6 (size AA ) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the mark ings inside the compartment.

22 US Step 6: Quick Setup Follow the steps below to make the minimum numbe r of basic adjustments for using the play er. To skip an adjustment, press > . 25 US Playback Notes on playing DTS sound tracks on a DVD VIDEO • DTS audio signals ar e output only throug h the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL or OPTICAL)/HDMI OUT jack. • When you play a DVD VIDEO with DTS sound tracks, set “DTS” to “ON” in “AUDIO SETUP” (page 60).
26 US Replacing discs while playin g a disc (EXCHANGE) You can open the disc tray while playing a disc so that you can check which discs are to be played next and replace discs without interrupting playback of the current disc. 1 Press EXCHANGE. The disc tray opens and two disc compartments appear.

28 US Checking the Playing Time and Remaining Time You can check th e playing time a nd remaining time of the curr ent title, chap ter, or track. Also , you can chec k the DVD/CD te xt, track name, or ID3 tag information (MP3 audio) record ed on the disc.
29 US Playback Checking the information on the front panel display You can view the time information and text displayed on the TV screen also on the front panel display. The information on the front panel display changes as follows when you change the time information on your TV screen.

33 US Playback Repeating a specific portion (A-B Repeat Play) You can play a specific portion of a title, chapter, or track repeat edly. (This func tion is useful when you want to memorize lyrics, etc.) 1 Press DISPLAY during playback. The Control Menu appears.
34 US Adjusting the Playback Picture (CUSTOM PI CTURE MODE) You can adjust the video signal of the DVD, VIDEO CD, or DATA CD/DATA DVD in JPEG format from the player to obtain the picture quality you want. Choose the setting that best suits the program you are watching.
35 US Playback To turn off the display Press O RETURN or DISPLAY. Notes • This function does not work when “PhotoT V HD” mode is activ ated (page 51) . • This function do es not work if your TV su pports “THEATRE” mode an d it is set to “ON”, and “CONTROL FOR HDMI” is set to “ON”.
36 US Adjusting the Delay Between the Picture and Sound (AV SYNC) When the sound does not match the pictures on the screen, you can adjust the delay between the picture and sound. 1 Press DISP LAY twice during playback. The Control Menu appears. 2 Press X / x to select (AV SYNC), t hen press EN TER.
37 US Playback Locking Discs (CUSTOM PARENTAL CONTRO L, PARENTAL CONTROL) You can set two kinds of playback restrictions for a disc. • Custom Parental Control You can set playback restrictions so that the player will not play inappropriate discs.

44 US Sound Adjustments Changing the Sound When playing a DVD VIDEO recorded in multiple audio formats (P CM, Dolby Digital, or DTS), you can change the audio format. If the DVD VIDEO is recorded with multilingual tracks, you can also change the language.

JPEG is image compression technology. You can play DATA CDs/DATA DVDs that contain MP3 audio tracks or JPEG image files.
