4 Getting Started Featur es With the Digital Picture Filing System DPF-P7D/P7, you can enjoy the following features using a “ Memory Stick ” (page 76), PC card*, and CD-R/RW. * In order to use smart media, compact flash, etc., via PC cards, you must use a PC card adapter made for the particular media being used.

10 Setting Up Setting Up Pr eparing the LCD scr een (DPF-P7D only) You can use the LCD screen to view images. Opening the LCD screen Press the OPEN button to open the LCD screen. Adjusting the brightness You can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen by using the “ Option setting ” screen.
11 Setting Up Setting Up Connecting to a TV Connect the filing system to your TV using the supplied video connecting cord. When you use a TV having an S video connector, you can enjoy clearer images by using the S video connecting cord (not supplied).

13 Setting Up Setting Up Inserting a “ Memory Stick ” or PC card To view images recorded on your “ Memory Stick ” or PC card, or to record images onto a CD-R/RW, insert a “ Memory Stick ” or PC card into the corresponding slot. For details about “ Memory Stick ” , see page 76.
14 Setting Up Inserting a PC card With the arrow facing upward and on the left, insert the PC card into the PC card insertion slot until it clicks into place. Notes • While this system is reading/writing data (PC CARD indicator flashes), do not eject the PC card.
15 Setting Up Setting Up Inserting a CD-R/RW To record images onto a CD-R/RW, or view images recorded on a CD-R/RW, you must first insert a CD- R/RW. Usable discs The filing system can use discs with the following icons.
16 Setting Up 3 Close the disc tray by pushing it gently. When the filing system starts reading data from the disc, the CD-R/CD-RW indicator flashes. Removing a disc Confirm that the CD-R/CD-RW indicator is not flashing and press the A (Eject) button.

21 Viewing Viewing Notes • When you select an image which cannot be displayed by the 4- image or 12-image viewer, “ ? ” appears on the screen. To view this image, move the cursor to “ ? ” by pressing C / X / x / C , then press OK. The selected image is displayed in full-size on the screen.

After recording is complete, the screen returns to the editing screen. To go back to a single image screen, select (Close), then press OK.

66 Other Operations and Settings Enjoying various playing modes (continued) After playback ends, the first image of the movie is displayed as a still image and the operation icons appear. To play again, select (Playback movie). To go back to the previous screen, select (Close) or press RETURN.

To go back to the original image, press RETURN. Playing voice-over audio (CD-R/RW only) You can play audio data added to the image using this system.
68 Other Operations and Settings Pausing the playback of the voice-over While playing, press OK. The system enters the pause mode and the operation icons appear. Select (Playback recording) to play again. Playback starts from the beginning of the voice-over.

The confirmation dialog box appears. 2 Select “ Yes ” , then press OK. The format of the images recorded on the CD-R/ RW is converted to a format compatible with PCs (ISO9660* level 1 format).

72 For Your Information Pr ecautions For Your Information Special notice Do not move, lift up the system, or disconnect the AC power cord while it is operating. Especially, do not subject it to vibration or shock while the system is reading data. This may cause reading errors or malfunction of the CD-R/RW disc.
73 For Your Information For Your Information On transport When you transport the filing system, remove the CD- R/RW, “ Memory Stick “ and PC card from the filing system and put the filing system in the original box with the protective packaging.
74 For Your Information Storage • Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or heat sources, such as hot air ducts, or leave it in a car parked in direct sunlight. • After playing the disc, store it in its case. Stacking discs without cases or leaving a disc exposed may cause the disc to warp.
75 For Your Information For Your Information Maintenance On cleaning Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft dry cloth, or a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or benzine, which may damage the finish.
76 For Your Information About “ Memory Stick ” About “ Memory Stick ” “ Memory Stick ” is a new, compact, portable and versatile IC (integrated circuit) recording medium with a data capacity that exceeds that of a floppy disk.

79 For Your Information For Your Information The filing system ’ s PC card insertion slot can read and write PCMCIA ATA compatible type II flash memory cards with a power specification of 5V or 3.3/5V. By using a commercially available PC card adaptor, you can use Smart Media and other types of compact flash cards.
80 For Your Information T roubleshooting If you run into any problems using the filing system, use the following table to solve the problem. If the problem persists, consult your Sony dealer. Cannot operate the filing system after the power switch is turned on.
