8 About the display • When you press u after changing the CD or turning off and on the play er , the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • During play , the tr ack number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
9 Playback options Y ou can enjo y various w ays of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode. REPEA T/ENTER button REPEA T Y ou can repeat play that is selected using PLA Y MODE.
10 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuf fle, RMS and INTR O PGM pla y modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Note on . / > During Repeat play , you can locate the first track after the last track by pressing > repeatedly .
11 Playing tracks in your favorite order (RMS play) Y ou can program the CD player to play up to 22 tracks in your fa vor ite order . 1 During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “RMS” appears. 2 Press . or > to select a track. 3 Press REPEA T/ENTER to enter the selected track.
12 Selecting tracks by listening to songs’ intr o (INTRO PGM play) Y ou can program the CD player to play only the tracks you like listening to while the CD player plays the beginning of e very tr ack (song’ s intro) one by one. 1 During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “INTRO PGM” appears.
13 Using the radio 1 2 2 1 k k Using the Radio Y ou can listen to the radio using the tuner -remote control attached to the CD player or using it separately . When using the tuner-remote control attached to the CD pla yer , you do not need to install the battery in the remote control.
14 Listening to the radio Y ou can enjoy FM and AM programs. 1 Set CD/RADIO to “RADIO” to turn on the radio. 2 Slide BAND to select FM or AM. When listening to stereo broadcast Set B AND to FM ST (stereo). Set it to FM MONO (monaural) when reception is poor .
15 T o improve reception For FM, extend the headphones/earphones cord and the remote control cor d. For AM, reorient the tuner-remote control itself. If noise is heard • Disconnect the A C po wer adaptor or the car battery cord.
16 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “MB (Mega Bass)” or “GRV (Groove).” “GR V ” enhances the bass sound more than “MB”. Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
17 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps do wn the maximum volume to protect your hearing. Set A VLS to “LIMIT .” T o turn off the A VLS function Set A VLS to “NORM. ” Displayed when “LIMIT” is selected and the AVLS function is working.
18 Connecting a stereo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape and a MiniDisc. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.
19 Notes • Before you play a CD, turn down the volume of the connected device to av oid damaging the connected speakers. • Use the A C power adaptor for r ecording. If you use the rechargeable batteries or dry batteries as a power source, batteries may become completely depleted during recording.

21 T o remove the rechargeable batteries Remove the batteries as illustrated belo w . When to charge the rechargeable batteries When the batteries become weak, the indicator appears. If the batteries are used up and “Lo batt” appears, charge the batteries.
22 Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used. On AC power adaptor • Use only the A C power adaptor supplied or recommended in “ Accessories (supplied/ optional). ” Do not use any other A C po wer adaptor .
23 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid f all into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal po wer input) jack.
24 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve c hecked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . CD player Symptom The volume does not increase even if the VOLUME control is adjusted to the maximum level. No sound, or noise is heard.
25 CD player Symptom Cannot adjust the volume with the VOLUME control on the CD player . During recording with optical digital connection, the track number cannot be recorded correctly . Radio Symptom Cannot operate the radio. Inserted a new battery into the tuner -remote control but cannot operate your CD player .
