7 Notes on using your camera T ypes of “Me mory Stick” that can be used (not supplied) The IC recording medium used by this camera is a “Memory Stic k Duo”. There are two types of “Memory Stick ”. “Memory Stick Duo”: you can use a “Memory Stick Duo” with your camera.
8 • Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves or emits radiation. The camera may not be able to record or play back prop erly . • Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations may cause malf unctions. • If moisture condensation occurs, remove it before using the camera (page 108).

14 Y ou can create various images by adjusting th e exposure and the ISO sensitivity . Exposure is the amount of light that the camera w ill receive when you release the shutter . Adjusting the ISO sensitivity ISO is unit of measurement (sen sitivity), estimating ho w much light an image pickup device (equi valent to photo films) recei v es.

Example: The color of an image affected by light sources The color tones are adjust ed automatically in the auto adjustment mode. 23 Enjoying t he camera Changing the screen display Each time you press the (Screen display switch) button, the dis play changes as follows. • B y pressing (Screen display switch) button longer, you can increa se the LCD backlig ht. • When you set the histogram display to on, image information is displayed during playback.
24 Number of still images and recording time of movies The tables show the approximate number of still images and the le ngth of time for movies that can be recorded on a “Memory Stick D uo” form atted with this camera. The values may v ary depending on the sh ooting conditions.
25 Enjoying t he camera When you do not have a “Memor y Stick Duo” (Recording with the internal memor y) The camera has 58 MB of internal memory . This memory is not removable. Even when there is no “Memory Stick Duo” inser ted in the camera, you can record images using this internal memory .

65 Using your computer Installing the software (supplied) Y ou can install the software (supplied) using the following procedure. • When using Windows 2000/Me, do not connect the camera to the computer before install ation. • In Windo ws 2000/XP , log on as Administrator.
66 Copying images to your computer This section describes the process using a W indows computer as an e xample. Y ou can copy images from the camera to your computer as follows. For a computer with a Memory Stick slot Remove the “Memory Stick Duo” from the camera and insert it in the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor .
67 Using your computer 3 Set the mode switch to , then turn on the camera and the computer . 1 Connect the camera to your computer . 2 Set the switch on the cable f or multi-use terminal to “CAMERA”. • With Windo ws XP , the AutoPlay wizard appears on the desktop.
68 1 After making a USB connection in Stage 2, click [Cop y pictures to a folder on m y computer using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard] t [OK] as the wizard screen appears automatically on the desktop. The “Scanner and Camera Wizard” screen appears.
69 Using your computer 6 Click [Finish]. The wizard screen closes. • T o continue copying other im ages, disconnect the cable for m ulti-use terminal (page 70). Then follow the procedure explained in “Stage 2: Conn ecting the camera and your computer” on page 67.

73 Using your computer Using the “Cyber -shot Viewer” (supplied) Y ou can use still images and movies from the camera more than ever by taking advantage of the software. This section summarizes the “Cyber-shot V ie wer” and gi ves the basic instructions.
74 3 Import the images. T o start importing images, click the [Import] button. By default, images are imported into a folder created in “My Pictures” that is named with the date of impor ting. • For instructio ns on changing the “Folder to be imported”, refer to page 76.
75 Using your computer Hour display screen • T o list im ages from a particular year or month, click that period on the left of the screen. 3 Displaying individual images On the hour display screen, double-click a thumbnail to display the image b y itself in a separate window .
76 Preparing images stored on the computer for viewing T o view images, re gister the folder that contains the images as one of the “V ie wed folders”. From the [File] menu, choose [Re gister V ie wed Folders...] to display the settings screen fo r “V iewed fold ers” re gistratio n.
77 Using your computer Using the “Music T ransfer” (supplied) Y ou can change the Music files that are preset at the factory with desired Music files using “Music T ransfer” in the CD- R OM (supplied). Also, you can d elete or add these files whene ver you w ant.
78 Using your Macintosh computer Y ou can copy images to your Macintosh computer . • “Cyber-shot V iewer” is not compat ible with Macintosh comput ers. The following en vironment is recommended for a comp uter connected to the camera. Recommended environment for copying images OS (pre-ins talled): Mac OS 9.
79 Using your computer 4 View images on the computer . Double-click the hard disk icon t the desired image file in the folder containing the copied files to open that image file.
80 Printing stil l images How to print still images When you print images shot in [16:9 ] mode, both edges may be c ut off, so be sure to c heck before printing (page 98). Printing directly using a PictBridge co mpliant printer (page 81) Y ou can print images by connecting the camera directly to a PictBridge compliant printer .
81 Printing sti ll images Printing images directly using a PictBridge compliant printer Even if you do no t hav e a computer , you can print images shot using your camera by connecting the camera dir ectly to a PictBridge compliant printer . • “PictBridge” is based on the CI P A standard.
82 1 Connect the camera to the printer. 2 Set the switch on the cable for multi-use terminal to “CAMER A”. 3 Turn on your camera and the printer. After the co nnection is ma de, the indica tor appears . The camera is set to playback mode, then an image and the print me nu appear on the screen.
83 Printing sti ll images [This image] Prints a displayed image. • If you select [This image] and set [Index] to [On] in step 2, you can print a set of the same images as an inde x image. 2 Select print settings with v / V / b / B . [Index] Select [On] to print as an index image.
84 [Select] Selects im ages and p rints all the select ed images. Select the image you want to p rint with v / V / b / B , then press z to display th e mark. (Repe at this proc edure to se lect other imag es.) Then, press MENU. [DPOF image] Prints all the imag es with a (Print order) mark regardless of the displayed image.
85 Printing sti ll images Printing at a shop Y ou can take a “Memor y Stick Duo” containing images shot with your camera to a photo printing service sh op.

87 Connectin g your camer a to your TV Connecting your camera to your TV Viewing images on a TV screen Y ou can view images on a TV screen by connecting the camera to a TV . T urn off both your camera and the TV before connecting the camera and the TV .
88 On TV color systems If you want to vie w images on a T V screen, you need a TV with a video i nput jack and the cable for multi-use terminal. The color system of the TV must match that of your digital still camera. Check the following lists for the TV color system of the country or region where the camera is used.
89 T r oubleshooti ng T roubleshootin g T roubleshooting If you exper ience trouble with your camera, try the following solutions. Please understand that you gi ve your consent th at the contents of the internal memory , Music files may be checked when you send your camera to be repaired.
90 The battery pack cannot be ins talled. • As you insert the battery pa ck, use the tip of the battery pa ck to push the battery eject le v er tow ard the bottom of the came ra ( t step 1 in “Read T his F irs t” ). • Install the battery pack cor rectly ( t step 1 in “Read This First” ).
91 T r oubleshooti ng Y our camera cannot record images. • Check the free capa city of the i nternal memory or “Memory St ick Duo” (pag es 24, 25). If it is full, do on e of the f ollowing: – Delet e unnecessar y images ( t step 6 in “Rea d This First” ).
92 Smart zoom does no t function . • Set [Digital Zoom] to [Smart] (pag e 52). • This func tion cannot be used w hen: – The image size is set to [7M] or [3:2 ]. – Shooting in Multi Burst mode. – Shooting mo vies. The flash does not work. • The flash is se t to (Flash forced of f) ( t step 5 in “Read This F irst” ).
93 T r oubleshooti ng The image is too bright. • Y ou are shooting a spot lighted subje ct in a dark loc ation such as on a stage. A djust the exposure (pag e 37). • The brigh tness of t he screen is too bright . Adjust th e brightness of the LCD ba cklight (page 23).
94 The date and time are not displayed. • (Screen display switc h) butt on is turned of f (pa ge 23). The image appears rough right after playback starts. • The image may appear ro ugh right a fter playba ck starts d ue to image pr ocessing. Th is is not a malfunct ion.
95 T r oubleshooti ng Y ou do not know if the OS of your computer is compatible with the camera. • Check “ Recommended co mputer environment” on pa ge 64 for Windows, and page 78 for Macintosh. Nothing appears on the camera sc reen when a USB connection is made .
96 Y ou can not copy images. • Connect t he camera and your comput er correct ly making a U SB connection (page 67). • Follow the designated copy procedu re for your OS (page s 67, 78). • When you sho ot images wit h a “Memory St ick Duo” forma tted by a computer, you may not be able to copy the im ages to a co mputer .
97 T r oubleshooti ng Y ou want to change t he “Folder t o be imported”. • Access t he “Import S ettings” scr een to chan ge “Folder to be imported”. Y o u can specif y a diff erent folder after using “Cyber -shot V iewer” to re giste r it in “V iewed folders ” (page 76).
98 Cannot record images using the internal memor y . • There is a “Mem ory Stick Du o” inserted in the camera. Remov e it ( t step 4 in “Read T his Fi r s t ” ). The free capacity of the internal mem ory does not increase even when you copy the data stored in the internal me mory to a “Memor y Stick Duo”.
99 T r oubleshooti ng Cannot pri nt images. • Check t hat the cam era and the printer ar e properly connected u sing the ca ble for mul ti-use terminal. • Turn on the printer. For further informa tion, refe r to the operating i nstruction s supplied with the printer .
100 Y our cam era does not work. • Use the ty pe of batte ry pack you can use with this camera ( page 106). • The battery le v el is lo w (The E indicator appears ). Charge the b attery pack ( t step 1 in “Read This F irst” ). The power is on, but the camera does not work.
101 T r oubleshooti ng W arning indicators and messages If a code starting with a letter of the alphabet appears, your camer a has a self- diagnosis display .
102 Memory Stick locked • Y ou are using the “Memor y Stick Duo” with the write-prote ct switch, and the switch is set to the LOCK posit ion. Set the switc h to the re cording p osition (page 104 ).
103 T r oubleshooti ng Enable printer to connect • [USB Connect] is set to [Pict Bridge], howe ver the camera is connecte d to a non-PictBri dge complia nt device. Check the device. • The connection is not establis hed. Disconnect and connect the cable for multi-use t erminal again.
