22 Basic still image shootin g — Using auto adjustment mode , Set the mode switch to , and slid e the l ens co ver to tu rn on the power. The name of t he folder whe re the image will be reco rded appear s on the LCD scr een fo r approxima tely fiv e seco nds.
23 Shooti ng still images , P ress the shut ter button fully down . The shutter soun ds. The image will be reco rded in th e “Memor y Stick Duo.” Whe n “Rec ording” disapp ears from the LCD screen , you can shoot the next im age. • The frame indica ted on the LCD s creen sho ws the focus adjustment range (AF range finder, page 47).
24 Auto Focus When y ou try to sho ot a s ubjec t that is diff icult to focu s on, t he AE/A F loc k indica tor changes t o flashing slow ly. The A uto Focus fu nction m ay have diffic ulty working und er the foll owing conditio ns. In such cases, r elease th e shutter butto n, t hen r ecompos e the s hot and f ocus again.

26 Zoom Your ca mera is equippe d with zoom functions that enl arge the image using optical zoom and two typ es of digital processi ng. Digital zoom can be selected from smart zoom or prec ision digital zoom. When dig ital z oom is set, th e zoom method switches f rom optica l zoom to d igital zoom when the zoo m sc ale ex ceed s 3×.
27 Shooti ng still images Shooting close-ups — Macro The close -ups (Macro) reco rding mode is used wh en zooming up subjects such as flowers o r insect s. Sett ing the zoom al l the way to the W side lets you shoo t subjects at dista nces as clo se as 8 cm.

The ho riz ontal axis shows the bri ghtness, and the vertic al axis shows the num ber of pixels. Th e graph display i ndicate s a dark image when skew ed to the left sid e, and a bright image when sk ewed to the righ t sid e.

91 Trouble shooting Noise appe ars in the image when yo u view the LCD screen in a da rk place. • The ca mera is functioni ng to increase the visibil ity of the LCD scre en by temporarily brighten ing the image under c onditions of low illumi nation.
92 Viewing im ages The eyes of the subject come out red. — p Set [Red Eye Re duction] on t he Setup screen to [On] (pages 29 and 106). The date and time are recorded incorre ctly. • The date and time are not set corr ectly. p S et the correct dat e and time (pages 17 and 107).
