5 TV Home Menu: XMB ™ (Xr ossMedi aBar) The XMB ™ is an easy w a y to acce ss the TV settings f or cust omizi ng, maki ng adju stment s, viewing the a vailable TV ch annel s and sel ecting th e conn ected equ ipment . Press the HOME button on your remote c ontrol t o display the XM B ™ .
6 Getting Started 1. Installi ng the T V This TV can be mounted on a wall us ing a W all- Mount Bracket or placed on a TV stand (each sold separately).
7 Getting Started All model s are ready to be mo unted on a w all. Model KDL-52WL140 will require detaching the T able-T op stand. • For pr oduct protection and sa fety reasons, Sony strongly recomm.
8 Make sur e that your TV has adequate air circulation. Allo w enough space around the TV as sho wn belo w . A void op erating the TV at temperatures belo w 41 °F (5 °C). ~ • Inadequa te air circulat ion can l ead to overheati ng of the TV and may cause dama ge to your TV or ca use a fire .
9 Getting Started Sony stro ngly re com mends t akin g measures to prevent the TV from toppling ov er . Unsecured TVs may topp le and result in pro perty damage, seri ous bodily injury or e ven death. Prevent the T V from T oppling Ov er s Secure the TV to a w all and/or stand.
10 2. Locating Inputs and Outputs ~ • This TV disp lays all video i nput sig nals in a res oluti on of 1,92 0 dots × 1,080 li nes. • An HDMI or Comp onent vid eo (YP B P R ) connecti on is req uired to v iew 480i, 480 p, 720p, 1080i an d 1080 p video formats.

Connecting the TV Y ou can enjoy h igh-def inition and st andard- definition digital programming (if av ailable in your area) alo ng with standard- definition analog progr amming. ~ • This TV is capable of receiving uns crambl ed digita l prog rammin g for both cable (QAM and 8VS B) and external VHF/UHF antenna (A TSC).
13 Getting Started Shown with D V I Connection ~ • If the equipment has a D VI jack and no t an HDMI jack , connect the D VI jack to th e HDMI IN 4 (with DVI-to-HDMI cable or adapt er) jack and connect t he audio jack to the A UDIO IN (L/R) jacks of HDMI IN 4.
14 Use the TV as a monitor for your PC b y connecting a HD15 to HD15 cable as sho wn belo w . This TV can also be connected to a PC with a D VI or HDMI out put. (Refer to the separate Quick Setup Guide.) ~ • Connect the PC IN j ack to the PC us ing an HD15- HD15 ca ble with f errite core (an alog RGB) an d audio cable (see page 11).

16 4. Setting Up the Channel List – Initia l Setup The Initial Setup screen appears when you turn on t he TV for the fi rst time. 1 Complete your cable connections (refer to th e preceding pag es and the Quick Setup Guide prov ided separately) bef ore proceeding with the Initial Setu p .
