19 A TT ACHING THE CARR Y STRAP 1 Undo the strap en d. 2 Attach the carry strap as show n. This strap can be attach e d to a bat tery cas e that is convenient for carry ing a spare bat tery . CAUTION !! The battery and battery case a re not w ater - proof.
20 LENS CAP T o preser ve the l ens, the l ens cap i s attach ed. If you do not us e the cam era, please kee p the lens cap atta ched. Attach or remov e the lens cap as show n in the illustra tion. LOADING THE BA TTER Y A lithium - i on battery , BP - 51, is pr ovided w ith the dp1 Q uattro cam era.
21 T he charge lamp w ill be green whilst th e battery is charg ing I t takes about 140 minutes to re charge the battery . R equired time for rechargi ng the batt ery depends on th e ambient tem perature an d status of rechar ge le vel. 3 When the char ge lamp goe s out, charg ing is complet ed.
22 LOADING THE BA TTERY 1 Slide the Release l ever to the OPEN position, and ope n the Bat tery Cov er as shown in t he illustrati on. 2 Insert the battery until it lock s into pl ace. 3 Close the Bat tery Cover and Sli de the Release lev er to the LOCK position as shown in t he illustrati on.
23 The power of t he battery is insuf ficient , replace or recharg e the battery immed iately . (Red) The power of the battery is empty ; the camer a will n o longer work. Replace or recharge th e battery immediately . The battery is workin g with the connected AC adapter .
24 SETTING THE LANGUAGE Y ou should re ceive the dp1 Quattro camera pre - set to E nglis h, however , if necessary , you ca n change t he camera la nguage y ourself. 1 T urn the cam era on. 2 Press the button on the back of t he camera to display the Camer a Set - up Menu.
25 SETTING THE TIME AND D AT E Please set the cam era’s internal clock, b efore usi ng the camera for the fi rst time or aft er extended peri ods of disuse. 1 T urn the cam era on. 2 Press the button on the back of t he camera to display the Camer a Set - up Menu.
26 CAUTION !! The camera’s internal clock is powered by a capacit or that re ceives i ts charge from camera’s battery . If the camer a is with out battery for an extended per iod of time, suc h as after prolong ed s torage, the i nternal clock will need to be re set.

45 A AP ERTURE PRIORIT Y AE After y ou set the apertu re, the c amera w ill determi ne the ap propriat e shutter spe ed. If you select sma ller apert ures, depth of field w ill be grea ter . Larger apert ures tend to blur the backg round, as d epth of field will be shallower .
46 S SHUTTER SPEE D PRIORITY AE When you set the desir ed shutter s peed, the camera wil l select the appropriat e aperture value for corr ect exposure. Y ou can achieve st op action ef fect s by s electing a fast s hutter spe ed, or giv e the fe eling of m otion to a moving subje ct by selecting a sl ow shutter spe ed.
47 M MANUAL EXPO SURE Set both th e shutter speed and ap erture v alue accordi ng to the i ndicatio n of the exposu re meter . Y ou can cha nge the ex posure, as y ou desire. 1 Set the Ex posure Mode to the M positi on. (The shutt er speed is illu minated in oran ge.
48 LCD DISPL A Y IN M MOD E When the ex posure is set as M mode, th e LCD Disp lay reflect s th e selected ex posure on the scree n so that photograp hers can confirm how the actual im age wil l look. When th e exposure is u nder , it becomes d arker , and when it is over , it becomes brig hter .
49 FOCUSING Adjustment of autofo cus and ma nual focus operation are expl ained belo w . FOCUS MODE Each time t he button is pre ssed, AF mode (without an icon) a nd MF mode ( icon) will alternate. HOW TO USE AUT OFOCUS Position the photograp hic subject within the centre of t he composi tion and pre ss the shutter button “ha lf - way”.

51 FOCUS LOCK This phot ographic method i s useful if the s ubject is not pos itioned w ithin t he selected focu sing point. 1 Position the phot ographic subj ect into the selecte d focusing poi nt, and focus by pressing t he shutter button “ha lf - way”.

59 Self Timer 10 sec The shutter will be release d 10 seconds after th e shutter but ton is fully depresse d. After com posing the picture, pre ss the shutter button “hal f - way” and adjust the focusing . Then, pres s the shutter butto n th e rest of the way and the self - timer will acti vate.
60 3 Press the button to apply t he setting , and pres s the butt on to go back to shootin g mode. 4 Press the shutter but ton to st art the interval timer shoo ting. During the interv al timer sh ooting, the next ex posure inte rval begi ns and the numbers of remaining ex posures w ill be display ed.

62 SETTING THE WHITE BA LANCE (WB) The color of light reflect ed by a n object can vary dependi ng on th e color of the light source illuminating it. For example, a neutral c olored obje ct will reflec t reddish li ght under incandes cent lighti ng, and gr eenish ligh t under fluor escent l ighting.

73 SELECTING THE METERI NG MODE The camera has three advanced m etering modes. The Meterin g Mode can be set in Quick Set Menu (P .34) or [ Ca pture Setting s ] (P .
74 AE LOCK The camera w ill fix and mem orize the exposure val ue whilst th e “AE” Lock butto n is d epressed. When you w ish to lo ck the ex posure of a s ubject off - center , AE lock is v ery usef ul. Use of this f unction w ith S p ot Meteri ng Mode is recom mended.
75 AFL Press the button to lock the foc us. Until press ing the button agai n, images are take n with the s ame focu sing point (Ex posure can be l ocked when pr essing sh utter “half - way”.). AE L + AF L Press the button to lock bo th AE and F ocus simult aneously .
76 EXPOSURE COMPENSA TIO N If you w ant to int entionally overex pose or underexpose the pict ure, use t his functi on. Select the desired com pensation v alue by rotatin g the Rea r Dial. Exposure compensatio n can be s et in 1/3 stop in crement s from +3.

87 USING THE EXTERNAL F LASH This section ex plains how to use a compact, de dicated, external flash gun. THE EXTERNAL FLASH The dp 1 Quattro camera is equ ipped w ith a hot sho e, allowing t he use of you a comp act, de dicated, ex ternal fl ashgun.
88 WARNING !! Pleas e be aw are that w hen you c harge the e xternal flas h, the flash mode icon w ill tur n on and off . If y ou release a shutter during suc h time, it will not flash an d causes cam era shake or underex posure. When cam era exposure mo de P , A , or S is used, shutt er speed can be set up to 1 /200 sec.
89 NORM AL FLASH When you us e the ex ternal flash, y ou can us e your cam era in this m ode. Please us e this mode f or ordin ary photogra phy . RE D-EYE REDUCTION FLASH (REDEYE) When ta king a pi cture w ith flash, sometime s the pers on’s eyes refl ects the flash light and the “redey e” phenome non will appear in the pict ure.
