Be aware of heat generated by your tablet: When your tablet is turned on or the batt er y is char ging, some parts might become hot. The temper ature that they reach depends on the amount of system activity and the level of char ge in the battery . Extended contact with your body, even through clothing, could cause discomfort or even a skin burn.
Chapter 1. Product overview This chapter provides an overview of the tablet, including the locations of connectors and controls, tablet features, accessories, specifications, oper ating environment, and pr einstalled Lenovo pr ograms.
1 Microphones The built-in micr ophones captur e sound and voice when they ar e used with an application capable of handling audio. 2 Ambient light sensor The ambient light sensor detects the brightness of the envir onment. The scr een brightness automatically adjusts depending on the ambient light conditions det ected by the ambient light sensor .

Chapter 2. Using your tablet This chapter pr ovides instructions on how t o use some basic applications and tablet featur es. Initial setup instructions T o use the tablet the first time after you take it out of the bo x, ensur e that you follow the instructions below: 1.
T asks T ouch gestures Open an application or perform an action on an open application, such as Copy , Save , and Delete , depending on the application. T ap. Scroll thr ough it ems, such as lists, pages, and photos. Slide. Move an object. Drag an it em to the desired location.

T asks T ouch gestures Customiz e tiles on the Start screen, or uninstall an application. • Swipe in from the t op or bottom edge, tap Customize , and then tap the desired icon. • Pr ess and hold the desired icon. View the application commands on an open application, such as Copy , Save , and Delete , depending on the application.
Charging the battery The tablet is shipped with an ac power adapter and a power cor d t o charge the tablet from any standard ac power outlet. Note: The battery is not fully char ged when shipped. T o char ge the battery, do the following: 1. Connect the power cor d to the ac power adapter 1 .
4. In the Airplane mode section, slide the control to the right to turn on Airplane mode t o disable all wir eless devices. • T urn off automatic synchronization if you do not need it. T o turn off the aut omatic synchronization function, do the following: 1.
The T ablet Digitizer P en consists of a tip 1 , a click butt on 2 , and an er aser tip 3 . Hold the pen and point the tip at the display to move the point er . The er aser tip 3 functions like an er aser in progr ams that support this function. T o make a selection (single click), tap the display once with the pen.
3. T ap Clock, Language, and Region ➙ Change input methods . 4. F ollow the instructions on the scr een to configur e the input language. Changing the startup behavior t o open either the desktop or the Start screen Y ou can set the tablet to open either the desktop or the Start scr een by default.
1. Place the t op joint of your finger on the sensor . 2. Apply light pr essure and swipe your finger t oward you acr oss the r eader in one smooth motion.

T o use the cover , attach the cover to the tablet first as shown. The cover will be attached t o the tablet magnetically . Put the tablet into sleep mode or wake up the tablet If the cover is open and the tablet is on, the tablet, by default, ent ers sleep mode aut omatically after you close the cover .
Y ou also can change the settings so that by closing the cover you can shut down the tablet, put the tablet int o hibernation mode, or do nothing. T o achieve this, you must change your lid settings by doing the following: 1. F rom the desktop, swipe in from the right edge of the screen t o display the charms.
1. F rom the S tar t scr een, tap Lenovo Settings ➙ C amera . 2. F ollow the instructions on the scr een t o configur e settings and use the camer a. T o switch between the front-facing camer a and the rear -facing camer a, do the following: 1. F rom the S tar t scr een, tap Lenovo Settings ➙ C amera .
3. Insert the car d into the micro-SD-car d slot. The card might stop befor e it is completely installed into the card r eader . Ensure that you insert the card firmly until you hear a click. Removing a micro SD card T o r emove a micr o SD card, do the following: 1.

Chapter 3. Wireless networks and devices Y our tablet can connect to a variety of networks and devices, including mobile networks (3G or 4G), Wi-Fi data networks, and Bluet ooth devices. Note: Some tablet models can connect to both mobile networks (3G or 4G) and Wi-Fi networks, while others can connect t o Wi-Fi networks only .
3. Hold the micr o SIM card with the metal contacts facing down, and then insert it firmly into the micro-SIM-car d slot as shown until you hear a click. 4. Close the pr otective cover and turn on your tablet. T o r emove the micro SIM card, do the following: 1.

Determining which mobile network you ar e using If you have connected to a network, you can check the network name t o see which mobile network you are using.

T o connect to the mobile network, do the following: 1. Swipe in fr om the right edge of the screen to display the charms. 2. T ap the Settings charm. 3. T ap the network icon. A list of available networks is displayed. 4. In the Mobile br oadband section, slide the contr ol to the right to turn it on.
2. T ap Settings ➙ Change PC settings . 3. In the navigation panel, tap PC and devices ➙ Bluetooth . 4. Slide the contr ol to the right t o turn it on. The tablet will sear ch for Bluet ooth devices. 5. When the Bluetooth device you want t o pair is found, tap the ID of the Bluetooth device.
• While tr ansferring data to or fr om an NFC car d, do not put your tablet int o sleep or hibernation mode before the data tr ansfer finishes; otherwise, your data could become damaged. Notes: • Before positioning an NFC car d, ensure that the tablet is on and the NFC feature of the tablet is enabled.
Notes: • Before positioning an NFC-enabled smartphone, ensur e that both the tablet and the smartphone ar e on and the NFC feature is enabled on both the tablet and smartphone. • The scr een of your tablet and NFC-enabled smartphone might look differ ent from the illustr ations in this topic.

ThinkP ad 10 options The ThinkP ad 10 Ultr abook Keyboar d, the ThinkP ad 10 T ouch Case, and the ThinkP ad T ablet Dock are optional devices that L enovo designed specifically for the ThinkP ad 10 tablet. These options provide convenience and make your tablet easier to use for work, study, and entertainment.
5 Special keys The special keys enable you to control many featur es of your tablet by pressing a single key . F or mor e information, see “Using the ThinkP ad 10 Ultr abook K eyboard” on page 44 . Using the ThinkP ad 10 Ultr abook K eyboard This topic provides instructions on how to use the ThinkP ad 10 Ultr abook K eyboard.
T o r emove the pen fr om the slot, pr ess the pen gently into the slot 1 t o r elease it; then pull the pen out 2 . Note: The pen contains pressur e sensors. Do not push the tip of the pen for an e xtended period of time. Do not subject the pen to shock or vibration.

1. Unfold the touch case, and then align the tablet holder (bottom) with the tablet-fixing groove. The tablet holder (bottom) will be attached to the tablet-fixing groove magnetically . Ensure that the tablet holder (bottom) is securely seated in the tablet-fixing groove.
1. Carefully hold the tablet and the upper section of the t ouch case with your fingers and gently release the tablet holder (bott om) fr om the tablet-fixing gr oove. 2. F old the touch case slowly as shown in the following illustr ation. Then, you can carry the tablet with the t ouch case, which also serves as a protection case for the tablet.

Using the ThinkP ad T ablet Dock Before using the dock, ensur e that you connect the tablet to the dock and then connect the dock to an electrical outlet by doing the following: 1. Position your tablet with the dock connect or side facing downwar d. 2.
After the tablet is connected to the dock, you can: • Use your tablet in an upright position without having to hold the tablet. • Use the dock t o hold your tablet upright when using an ext ernal USB keyboar d. • Connect the dock t o your personal USB stor age device with the supplied USB cable to transfer files.

Chapter 6. Security This chapter pr ovides information about how t o pr otect the information stor ed on your tablet. Using passwords Y ou can help pr event your tablet fr om unauthorized use by using passwor ds. Once you set a password, a prompt is displayed on the screen each time you turn on the tablet.

Chapter 7. Advanced configuration If you need to update your syst em UEFI BIOS, install new device drivers, this information will help you handle your tablet with pr oper car e and k eep it in t op working shape.
On each menu, tap the default value to show selectable options and tap a desir ed option t o select it. Y ou can follow the instructions on the screen t o configur e settings. After you change the settings, tap Restart , and then tap your desir ed option t o r estart the tablet.

Chapter 8. T r oubleshooting pr oblems This chapter describes on what t o do if you experience a pr oblem with your tablet. Diagnosing problems If you e xperience problems with your tablet, use the L enovo Solution Cent er progr am as a starting point for solving them.
If the problem persists, contact Lenovo for technical support. Battery problem • Problem : The batt ery does not char ge correctly . Suggested solution : Check if the ac power adapt er is connected corr ectly . If the connection is good but the battery still does not char ge, contact Lenovo to r eplace with a new battery .

• Problem : When I turn on the tablet, nothing is displayed on the scr een and the tablet does not beep while starting up. Note: If you are not sure whether you heard any beeps, turn off the tablet by pressing and holding the power butt on for four seconds or mor e.
Chapter 9. Recover y information This section provides information about the r ecovery solutions. A Windows r ecovery image is preinstalled in the recovery partition on your tablet. The Windows r ecover y image enables you to r efresh your tablet, or reset your tablet t o the fact ory default settings.
Using the advanced startup options With the advanced startup options, you can change the firmwar e settings of the tablet, change the startup settings of the Windows oper ating system, start the tablet fr om an e xternal device, or r estore the Windows operating syst em fr om a syst em image.
