3 W or k Safely This machine operates at very high speeds and has the potential to do serious damage if misused, abused or mishandled. T o reduce the risk of injury , you must maintain control at all times, and observe all safety precautions during operation.
4 T he proper l y equipped oper ator Always operate with both hands rmly gripping the un it . Wear nonslip heavy-duty work gloves to improve your grip on the un it ’ s handle. Wear snug-tting clothes that also permit freedom of movement. NEVER wear shorts! Always wear eye protection such as goggles or safety glasses.

7 WARNING! Alternative fuels, such as E15 (15% ethanol), E-85 (85% ethanol) or any fuels not meeting Shindaiwa require- ments are NOT approved for use in Shindaiwa gasoline engines.
8 Handling Fuel D ANGER Fuel is VERY ammable. Use extreme care when mixing, storing or handling or serious personal injury may result. • Use an approved fuel container . • DO NOT smoke near fuel. • DO NOT allow ames or sparks near fuel. • Fuel tanks/cans may be under pressure.

11 Before edging, make sure the area is soft enough so the blade does not ■ bog down. If necessary , water the area before edging. Remove debris and other obstacles that could be thrown by the rotating ■ blade. Plan your work so the edger blade is always on your right-hand side.
12 WARNING! Never repair a damaged blade ■ by welding, straightening, or by modifying its shape. An altered blade may break during opera- tion, resulting in serious per- sonal injury . Blades are not interchangeable ■ between Shindaiwa edgers and unit/brushcutter models.
13 10- 15 Hour Maintenance spark plug gap--all models Clean the spark plug and check the gap at the electrode. CA UTION! Before removing the spark plug, clean the area around the plug to prevent dirt and debris from getting into the engine’s internal parts.
14 Maintenance (continued) Remove the shaft bolt, bolt guard, ■ holder A, blade, holder B, and the output shaft collar . Press new grease into the gearcase until the old grease has been pushed out.
15 Maintenance (continued) 135-Hour Maintenance IMPORT ANT! If a new gasket is not available and/ or the old gasket is not damaged, the old gasket may be reused. Never use cracked or damaged gaskets! T urn engine over several times, and 6. returnthe to TDC-compression.

17 Adjusting Engine Idle The engine must return to idle speed whenever the throttle lever is released. Idle speed is adjustable, and must be set low enough to permit the engine clutch to disengage the cutting attachment. Idle Speed Adjustment Place the unit on the ground, then 1.
18 Long T er m Stor age Whenever the unit will not be used for 30 days or longer , use the following proce- dures to prepare it for storage: • Clean external parts thoroughly . • Drain all the fuel from the fuel tank. IMPORT ANT! Stored fuel ages.
