4 Safety Labels IMPORT ANT Safety and Operation Infor mation Labels: Make sure all infor mation labels are undamaged and readable. Immediately replace damaged or missing infor mation labels. New labels are available from your local authorized Shindaiwa dealer .
5 Product Description Using the accompanying illustrations as a guide, familiarize yourself with your unit and its various components. Understanding your unit helps ensure top per for mance, long ser vice life, and safer operation.
6 2. Use the 4 mm hex wrench to loosen the tube clamp screw . See Figure5. 3. Add some moly-type EP grease to splines at the end of the main shaft. 4. Slide the outer tube into the tube clamp until the tube bottoms.
7 Assemble and Adjust the Throttle Cable. 1. Inser t the throttle cable housing into the notch on the fan cover , and clamp the black wire’s connector between the fan cover and the cable outer adjuster nut. See Figure 10. 2. T ighten the two thr ottle cable adjuster nuts.
8 23031 23029 23030 Mount the Edger Blade 1. Install the holder A onto the output shaft. See Figure 13. 2. Mount the edger blade and holder B onto the output shaft, and then install the bolt guard and shaft bolt (tur n bolt counterclockwise to install).
9 23122 Closed Starting the Engine 4. While holding the outer tube fir mly with one hand, slowly pull the recoil star ter handle until resistance is felt, then pull quickly to star t the engine. 1. Slide the ignition switch to the “I” posi- tion (engine ON).
10 The engine must retur n to idle speed whenever the throttle lever is released. Idle speed is adjustable, and must be set low enough to per mit the engine clutch to disengage the cutting attachment.
11 23046 The edger’s depth of cut is controlled by a combination of operator height, blade wear , and the positioning of the edger’s guide wheel. To adjust blade height: 1. Loosen the guide wheel adjusting knob. See Figure 22. 2. Raise or lower the guide wheel to the desired setting.
12 Check for loose or missing screws or components. Make sure the tool and cut- ting attachment are securely fastened. Check the entire unit for leaking fuel or grease.
13 50-Hour Maintenance Eve ry 5 0 ho urs of oper ati on (more frequently in dusty or dir ty conditions): Remove the cylinder cover and clean grass and dir t from the cover and cylin- der fins. Remove the cutting attachment, cutting attachment holder and gear shaft collar .
14 Ever y 135 hours of operation, remove and clean the muf fler . WARNING! Never operate the machine with a damaged or missing mufer or spark arrester! Operating with missing or damaged exhaust components is a re hazard and could also damage your hearing.
15 NO T r oubleshooting Guide Does the engine crank? Good compression? Does the tank contain fresh fuel of the proper grade? Is fuel visible and moving in the retur n line when priming? Is there spark at the spark plug wire ter minal? Check the spark plug.
