General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 8 1.5 Basi c Terminology Hard war e Address The TPG60 is addr essable by means of its world-wide unique hardw are addr ess. This address is commonly r eferred to as the MAC or Ethernet address. The manufac turer has defined this addr ess in the hardwar e of the device.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 9 TPG Default Name The TPG name is made up of the two lett ers 'IC ' and the device number . The device number consists of the la st six numbers of its hardwar e address. Fig. 2: Example: Default name The TPG default name is found on t he TPG Homepage, the InterCon-NetTool, or the status page.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 10 Subnet Mask With the help of the subnet mask, lar ge networks can be s plit up into subnetworks. In this case, the user IDs of the IP addresses ar e assigned to the various subnetworks. The TPG60 is configured not to use subnetworks by default.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 11 1.8 Saving the IP Address in the TP G60 TCP/I P network protocols requir e the storing of the IP address in the TPG60 so that the device can be addressed within the network. Once the TPG60 is connected to the network, it check s whether an IP address can be obtained from boot protocols (e.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 12 For this purpose, the TPG60 picks an IP address at random fr om the address r ange 169.254.0.1 to 169.254 .255.254 which is r es erved for ZeroC onf and sends a query to the network. If this IP address has already b een assigned elsewher e in the network, the TPG60 will re ceive a messa ge.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 13 BOO TP The TPG60 supports BOOTP , which means that the IP address of the TPG60 can be assigned via a BO O T P server . Requi rements ; The p ar ameter 'BOOTP' has been activated. If the TPG60 is connected, it asks the BOO TP host for the IP address and the host name.
General Inf ormat ion TPG60 Use r M anual 14 Edit the ARP table: Syntax: arp -s <IP address><hardware address> Example: arp -s 192.168.0.123 00-c0-eb-00-01-ff Assign a new IP address to the TPG60: Syntax: ping <IP address> Example: ping 192.
