ix English Copy data fr om your camera to the computer Connect your camera to a computer , and copy the desired data to th e computer . 1 Turn on the computer, and use the supplied dedicated USB interface cable to connect your c amera to the computer .

English 22 SETUP INST ALLING THE CARD Be sure to f ormat a newly purchased card or one that wa s used in another device b efore using it in y our camer a (pages 124 and 13 4). 23 English CA UTION Close the battery c over secur ely i If the battery cover is not closed or is not closed completely , the camera will no longer be waterproof . When closing the battery cov er , make sure that no f oreign object su ch as sand, hair , dust, etc.
English 24 SETUP CHARGING THE B A TTER Y P A CK Please charge the supplied battery pack bef ore using it. Install the battery pack in t he camera, and connect the A C adaptor to charge the battery . Po wer to the camera ca n also be supplied from a po wer outlet when the A C adaptor is connected.

English 28 SETUP HINT About the internal backup battery i This camera’ s inter nal battery serves to maintain the date and time settings, as well as the shooting se ttings . The back up battery will be fully charged when the bat tery pack is kept in th e camera contin uously f or about 2 days .
29 English About rechar ging Recharging takes place only when t he camera is turned off, or when the powe r sav e function or the sleep f unction has been activ ated. Rechar ging does not tak e place when the camera is in the recording mode or pla yback mode.
English 30 SETUP TURNING THE CAMERA ON AND OFF T urning on the camera 1 Ope n the monitor unit, and press the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second. h If you briefly press the ON /OFF button, once, the camera will s witch to the power sa v e mode.
31 English T urni ng on the camera when the power save (sleep) mode is ac tive In order to preserve battery pack power , the power sav e (sleep) function will automatically turn off the camera after about 1 minute of no use during shooting, or about 5 min utes of no use during pla yback (f actor y-preset setting).
English 32 SETUP HINT T o immediately act ivate the power save mode i Press the ON/OFF button brie fly to activate the power save function. About the standby mode i T o turn off the camera only briefly , you can close the monitor u nit to put t he camera in the stan dby mode.
33 English D A TE AND TIME SETTING The camera will record the date and ti me an image or audio recording is taken so that y ou can displa y them during pla ybac k. Theref ore, bef ore capturing images, mak e sure the correct date and time are set. h T o correct the date and time setting, please see under HINT on page 34.

63 English Using the flash The flash is not only used f or photogr aphing under dark condi tions, b ut is also conv enient f or e xample when the subject is in shado w or lit from behind. The flash is av ailab le only when shooting single-shot still images.
English 64 SIMPLE/SHOO TING CA UTION Do not touch the flash unit when shooting i The flash unit becomes very hot and ma y cause a burn. A v oid touching the flash unit when shooting.
65 English SHOO T A STILL IMA GE WHILE RECORDING A VIDEO CLIP Y ou can c apture a still imag e (a single-shot) while recording a video cl ip. 1 Turn on the camera (page 30), and set it to the recording mode (page 35). 2 Press the [ ] button. 3 When you see a scene you’d like to capture as a still image, press the [] b u t t o n .

English 68 SIMPLE/SHOO TING HINT When recording video c lips at a high magnification i When recording video clips at a high magni fication, a movi ng subject or moving camer a can cause camera shak e, resu lting in a distorted pla yback image. This phenome non is due to the characteristics of the CMOS senso r and is not a malfunct ion.
69 English AFTER USING THE CAMERA IN W A TER After using th e camera i n water , wash it with fresh w ater and dry it complet ely . 1 Turn off the camera, and close the battery cove r and terminal cove r securely. 2 Wash the camera wit h fresh water. h Fill a shallow basin with fresh water , and i mmerse the closed camera for about 5 minutes.
