Get ting Start ed With Spr int PCS Service Deter mining if Y our Phone is Alr eady Activ ated If you received your MM-7400 b y Sany o in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has already been activated. All you need to do is unlock your phone.
Set ting Up Y our V oicemail All unansw ered calls to your Sprint PCS Vision Phone are automatically transf er red to your voicemail, e ven if your phone is in use or tur ned off. Theref ore, you will want to set up your voicemail and per sonal greeting as soon as your Sprint PCS Vision Phone is activated.
Spr int PCS Account P assw or ds As a Sprint PCS customer , you enjoy unlimited access to your personal account information, your voicemail account, and your Sprint PCS Vision account. T o ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create passwor ds to protect your privacy .

V iewing the Display Scr een Y our phone’s display screen provides a wealth of information about your phone’s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ ll see on your phone’s display screen: shows your cur rent signal strength.
shows the level of your batter y charge. The more black you see, the more pow er you have left. shows your batter y is charging. indicates you have menus to scroll (in four directions). indicates volume le vel 4 or 1 and vibrate feature are set. indicates a beep sound is set at level 1.
F eatur es of Y our Spr int PCS Vision Multimedia Phone Congratulations on the purchase of your Spr int PCS Vision Multimedia Phone MM-7400 by Sanyo. This phone is lightweight, easy-to-use, and reliable, and it also offers many significant featur es and ser vice options.
Changing the F aceplate Removing and Installing the Faceplat e T o remove, press the faceplate release latch up and remov e the faceplate from the phone at a 45-degree angle. Note: Be careful not to damage your fingernail when you remove the faceplate.
T ur ning Y our Phone On and Of f T ur ning Y our Phone On T o tur n your phone on: Press . Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking for ser vice... ” which indicates that your phone is searc hing for a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standb y mode – the phone’ s idle state.
Using Y our Phone’ s Bat tery and Char ger Batt ery Capacity Y our Spr int PCS Vision Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) batter y . It allows you to recharg e your batter y before it is fully drained. The batter y provides up to 3.5 hours of continuous dig ital talk time (1.
Charging the Batt ery Y our Spr int PCS Vision Phone’s LiIon batter y is rechargeable and should be charg ed as soon as possible so you can begin using your phone.
Displa ying Y our Phone Number Just in case you forg et your phone number , your Spr int PCS Vision Phone can remind you. T o display your phone number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select My Phone# and press . Note: T o access the phone’ s main menu, press from standby mode.
Making and Answ er ing Calls Making Calls Placing a call from your Spr int PCS Phone is as easy as making a call from any land line phone. Just enter the number and press and you’ re on your way to clear calls. T o place a call using your ke ypad: 1.
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press Options (right softke y) after entering number s in the phone’ s standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Abbrev . Dial to dial the phone number in your Contacts list that ends with the appropriate digits you entered.
Answer ing Calls T o answer an incoming call with the flip open: 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is of f, incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Press or to answer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’s settings, you may also answ er incoming calls b y opening the phone or by pressing any number key .
The following options are also displayed by pressing Options (r ight softkey). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Guard to ans wer the call when you are in roaming mode. See page 82 for setting Call Guard. Answer to answ er the call.
Ending a Call T o disconnect a call when you are finished: With the Flip open: Close the phone or press . With the Flip closed: Press and hold . Note: If the setting for Close Flip is not set to “End,” closing the phone will not end the call.
Changing the Ring er V olume T o change the r inger volume, press the Side V olume ke y when the phone is open and in standby mode. Note: T o change the ringer volume from the main menu, see “Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings” on page 42.
Missed Call Notification When an incoming call is not answer ed, the Missed Call log and the icon are display ed on your screen. T o call the Missed Call entry: Press or . T ip: If you have two or more notifications, the event list will appear . T o erase the Missed Call log: Press Dismiss (right softkey).
T o display Emerg ency mode options: 1. Press during a 911 call. 2. Press Options (right softkey). Call 911 to call 911. Call 911:Speaker to call 911 in speakerphone mode. Exit Emergency to e xit Emergency mode. 3. Select an option and press .
End-of-Call Options T o display the follo wing options, press Options (right softke y) within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can searc h Contacts list entries for phone numbers that contain a specific string of number s. T o find a phone number: 1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number and press Options (right softke y). (The more numbers you enter , the more specific the searc h becomes.
Making Inter national Calls With Plus Code Dialing Y our phone’s Plus Code Dialing feature can automatically dial the international access code when you are trav eling outside of the United States. T o make a call using Plus Code Dialing: 1. From standb y mode, press and hold until a “+” sign appears on the phone display .
Using Speed Dialing With this feature, you can dial your fav or ite entries using one ke y press for locations 2-9. (See “ Assigning Speed Dial Numbers” on pa ge 98.) T o use speed dial for voice calls: From standb y mode, press and hold the appropriate ke y for approximately two seconds.
Ent er ing T ext Selecting a Char acter Input Mode Y our Spr int PCS Vision Phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letter s, punctuation, and numbers whene ver you are prompted to enter te xt (for example, when adding a Contacts entr y or when sending email messages).
Enter ing Char acters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets you enter text in your Spr int PCS Vision Phone b y pressing keys just once per letter . (T o select the T9 Word mode when entering text, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on the previous page.
Enter ing Char acters by T apping the Ke ypad T o enter characters by tapping the ke ypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on page 33). Press the corresponding key repeatedly until the desired char acter appear s. By default, the first letter of an entr y is capitalized and follo wing letters are lowercase.
Enter ing S ymbols, Numbers, Preset Suf fixes, Smileys, and Emoticons T o enter symbols: 1. In a te xt entr y field, press Mode (right softke y). 2. Highlight SYMBOL and press . 3. Highlight the line that includes your desired symbol. 4. Press the corresponding key (1-8) with each symbol.

Sound Set tings Ringer T ypes Ringer types help you identify incoming calls and messages. Y ou can assign ringer types to individual Contacts entries, types of calls, and types of messages. Preprogrammed Ringers include a variety of standard r inger types and familiar music.
Selecting Ring er T ypes for Sprint PCS Ready Link Calls T o select a r inger type for Sprint PCS Ready Link calls: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Sounds and press . 4. Select Ringer T ype and press . 5. Select Ready Link and press .

Silence All There may be times when you need to silence your phone entirel y . The phone’ s Silence All option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone off. T o activat e Silence All: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Displa y Settings Changing the T ext Gr eeting The te xt greeting can be up to fifteen char acter s and is displayed on your phone’s screen in standby mode. Y ou may choose to display a custom greeting or you may display “Spr int” on the phone’ s screen.
Changing the Bac klight Time Length The backlight setting lets you select how long the display screen and keypad are backlit after any ke y press is made. T o change the Main LCD or Sub LCD backlight setting: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y Scr een Animation Y our new Spr int PCS Vision Phone of fers options for what you see on the display screen dur ing various phone functions. T o change the animation display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y f or Ar ea Name This featur e ena bles you to show the area of the phone number you are calling or are called from when the number is not registered in your Contacts list. For example, a call to or from 213-555-5555 will display “California.
Changing the Displa y f or Standby Mode This featur e ena bles you to select a variety of items to display in standby mode. T o set your standby display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4.

Changing the Displa y f or My Buddy This featur e ena bles you to see a funny animation on the Main LCD and Sub LCD by opening and closing the f lip. T o activat e or deactivat e My Buddy: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the F ont Siz e Y ou can chang e the font size settings for the messa ge notification and browser . T o change the font size: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Font Size and press .
Location Set tings Y our Spr int PCS Vision Phone is equipped with a Location featur e for use in connection with location-based ser vices that may be available in the future. The Location featur e allows the networ k to detect your position. T urning Location of f will hide your location from e veryone e xcept 911.
Air plane Mode Airplane Mode allows you to use many of your phone’ s features, such as Games, V oice Memos, etc., when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or receiving calls or data is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or access online information.
T TY Use With Spr int PCS Service A TTY (also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone. Y our phone is compatible with select TTY devices.
Phone Set up Options Shortcut Y our phone offers you the option of assigning a shortcut ke y to a fav or ite or often-used function. Pressing the navigation key to the left in standby mode will launch your per sonally designated shortcut. T o assign your shortcut key: 1.
A ut o Answer Mode Y ou may set your phone to automatically pick up incoming calls in speakerphone mode or when connected to an optional hands-free car kit and headset (sold separately). T o set A uto Answer mode: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .

Setting Abbreviat ed Dialing Abbr e viated Dialing is another form of speed dialing. It allows you to dial a number by entering 3-6 digits of any number in your Contacts Directory . If the digits you enter do not match any stored Contacts entr y , your phone will automatically prepend the digits you specify .
Setting the Meeting Mode This featur e allows you to hold an incoming call when you cannot answ er immediately . T o set the Meeting mode: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Others and press . 4. Select Meeting Mode and press .
Headset Mode This featur e allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset mode to V oice Call or Ready Link and press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o set headset mode: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Setting Retur n to Standby Mode This featur e allows you to select the way to return to standby mode. T o set this f eature: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Return to Idle and press .
Setting Message Notification Y ou can see an icon and/or a pop-up message notification when you receive a text messa ge or voicemail while you are in Spr int PCS Vision applications, browser mode, or voice calls. T o set message notification: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Setting a Callback Number With this feature, you can notify your recipients of your callback number with the te xt messa ge. T o set the callback number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Messaging and press . 4.

Changing the Lock Code T o change your lock code: 1. From the Secur ity Menu display (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on pa ge 69), select Others and press . 2. Select Change Lock and press . 3. Enter a new lock code (“1234” f or example). 4.
Using Special Numbers Special numbers are important number s that you have designated as being “always available. ” Y ou can call and receive calls from special numbers even if your phone is locked. Y ou can save 3 special number s in addition to your Contacts entries (the same number may be in both director ies).
Er asing the Contacts Direct ory Y ou can quickl y and easily erase all of the contents of your Contacts Director y . T o erase all the names and phone numbers in your Contacts Direct ory: 1. From the Secur ity Menu display (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on pa ge 69), select Erase Ph.
Reset ting Y our Pictur es A ccount This option resets your authentication ID for your Spr int PCS Picture Mail account. T o reset your pictures account: 1. From the Secur ity Menu display (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on pa ge 69), select Reset Pictures and press .
Reset ting and Locking Y our Phone Through SMS When your phone is lost or stolen, you can erase your impor tant personal information (such as Contacts entries, call histor y , and messages) and lock your phone b y sending a special formatted SMS message to your phone.
Secur ity F eatur es for Spr int PCS Vision SM Enabling and Disabling Spr int PCS Vision Services Y ou can disable Sprint PCS Vision ser vices without tur ning off your phone; however , you will not have access to all Spr int PCS Vision services, including W eb and messaging.

Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone’s display screen always lets you know when you’ re off the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and whether your phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The following chart indicates what you’ ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networ ks When you roam on analog networks, you will e xper ience a similar quality provided by other analog carr iers today . Although some featur es, such as Spr int PCS Vision, Sprint PCS Ready Link, and Sprint PCS V oice Command, will be unavailable, you can still make and receive calls and access voicemail.
Checking for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you are roaming of f the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network, you may not receive on-phone notification of new voicemail messages.
Contr olling Roaming Charg es Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when you are roaming of f the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network: the onscreen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard makes it easy to manage your roaming charges by requiring an extra step before you can place or answer a roaming call.
Section 2E Na vigating Through Menus In This Section Menu Navigation Menu Structure Viewing the Menus Every function and feature of your MM-7400 by Sanyo can be accessed through an onscreen menu . This section is a road map to using your Sprint PCS Vision Phone.
Menu Na vigation The navigation key on your Sprint PCS Vision Phone allows you to scroll through menus quickly and easily . The scroll bar at the r ight of the menu keeps track of your position in the menu at all times. T o navigate through a menu, simply press the navigation key up or down.

V iewing Hist ory Y ou’ll find the Call Histor y feature very helpful. The y are lists of the last 20 voice calls and the last 10 Ready Link calls that you placed, accepted, or missed.
Call Hist ory Options For additional information and options on a par ticular call, highlight a Call Histor y entr y and press Options (right softke y). Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

Using A utomatic Speech Recognition Y our Spr int PCS Vision Phone is equipped with an A utomatic Speech Recognition (ASR) feature. This f eature allows you to make calls or use the phone’ s functions by simply using your voice. All you have to do is to talk into the phone, and the phone will recognize your voice and complete tasks by itself.
Note: The speech recognition system will wait 7.5 seconds for you to respond to a prompt. After 7.5 seconds, the phone will display an error message and your command will be cancelled.
T o make a call by speaking a phone number: 1. Press and hold or to activate the Command menu. 2. Say “Dial Number” to your phone. 3. Say the dig its of the phone number using a natural voice. Shortcut: Y ou can also say “Dial Number” followed by the number you want to call.
