15 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device fo r transmitting and receivin g signals. The shape and size of the antenna is determined, in pa rt, by the frequency of the signals that they receive. An antenna makes the call so und clearer when it i s fully extended.
16 Headset connector This is where the option al hands-free headset is connected. The headset includes an earbud and microphone in a convenient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using your hands. • Before inserting the ha nds-free headset connec tor to your phone, gently pry open the top of the cover to expose the headset connector .
17 Send key The key perf orms several useful functions: • Press once to answer call s. • Enter a number and pres s once to connect a call. • Press twice in standby mode to redial the last outgoing number . Navigation The Navigation key allows you to l ocate different menu opt ions by pressing in the appropriate direction.
18 Display screen icons Signal strength : This icon always appears w h en your phone is on. It shows your current signal strength . More lines indicate more signal strength. Service indicator : This icon indicates a ca ll is in progress. When the phone is calling a number , this icon will fl ash until the cal l is connected.
19 Alarm clock: This icon d isplays when you h ave your alarm cloc k set. Ringer silent: This icon displays while in standby mode when your phones ringer is set to silent. Installing the battery Note: Your phone comes packag ed with a partially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel adapter .

23 Y our phone’ s modes Answer mode With this option activated, you can sel ect how you want to answer your phone when you receive an incoming call. Digital mode Some of your phones features work only in digital service area s, the icon indicates that your phone is operating in digital mode.
24 Silent mode The Silent Mode feature allo ws you to silence the ri nger when in standby mode. • With the phone in standby mode, press and hold for 2 seconds. Entering Silent Mode displays brief ly . • T o exit from Silent Mode press a nd hold for 2 seconds.
25 T alk mode Y ou can place and answer calls only when your phone is turned on. When you are on a call your phone is in T alk mo de. Pressing will display a list of the In-Use menu options. Vibrate mode In standby mode: 1. Press the down arrow located on the le ft side of your phon e to adjust the ringer volume .
26 T urning your phone on T o turn your phone on: 1. Fully extend the antenna for the clearest reception. 2. Press and hold for more than two seconds. Note: Y our phone has a built-in antenna.
27 T urning your phone off T o turn your phone off: 1. Press and hold for more than two seco nds. 2. The display screen and the backlight go off. Note: If your phone is on, and is pressed for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This feature prevents your phone from being turned off accidentally .

32 Accessing menus using the navigation key The Navigation key c an also be used as a directiona l shortcut key to access the following: • PbookSearch • V oiceDial • Calculator • Scheduler • RingerT ype • W orldtime • Display • Alarm Using the Navigation key as a directiona l shortcut is cal led a Launch Pad.
33 Returning to the previous menu When using the navigation key you can retu rn to the previous menu at anytime. T o do this: • Press to return to the previo us menu. • Press to exit the menu wit hout saving the setting. 35 Y our phone has several convenient options for when you miss a call: • Press to call the displayed number . • Press to clear the Missed Call message from the display . • View your Missed calls log. Erase history Y ou can erase any one of the call direc tories (Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed), or you can erase a ll three directorie s.

38 The screen displays the tota l number of calls, and the tot al air time for calls made and receive d since you la st set the To t a l air time to zero (by using the Erase All option.

43 Setting secret This feature allows you to k eep certain numbe rs in your Phone Book confidential so that ot hers cannot access the m. 1. From the Phone Book (option) screen, press to highlight Secret . 2. Press to highlight Secret On or Secret Off .
44 Overwriting existing name and number information Y ou can overwrite exist ing information usin g separate actions in both t he name and number fields. Follo w these instructions: 1. At the Phone Book (options) screen, press t o highli ght an existing name or nu mber field.
45 5. When the numb er and pauses ar e complete, press to store the number in your Phone Book . Pause dialing from a stored entry T o pause dial from the Phone Book: 1. If you stored the number using ( 2 second) T pause(s), simply call the number from the Phone Book.

48 Storing incoming phone numbers at the end of a call T o store a phone number after ending a call: Note: If the call was incomi ng, and Caller ID information was unavailable, then the store option will also be unavailable.
49 One-touch dialing Memory locations 001 through 0 09 are special One-T ouch locations. Y ou can call the phone numbers stor ed in the Phon e Book memory from 001 through 009 by pressing one key . For example, for location number 001. Press and hold until the name and number are displayed a nd called.
50 Wireless web Y our phone comes equipped wi th Wi reless Web Internet access through a MiniBrowser . The MiniBrow ser displays immediate in formation through your phone. Y ou ca n view specia lly designed versions of popular sites w h ich include sports, weather , news, stock quotes, etc.
51 Launching the minibrowser Note: The first time you use the MiniBrow ser , you will be prompted to go through a security setup process that takes approximately three to five minutes. Note: When the security key i s initially sent to the carrier , a unique value is created.

54 Making a phone call while using the minibrowser Y ou may initiate a phone call from the MiniBrowser if the sit e you are using supports this feature (the phone number may be high light ed and the left soft key will appear as Call). Pressing the Ca ll soft key will call the number .
55 Creating SMS text messages 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display Message. 2. Press for New Messages . The screen displays Message T o: . 3. Enter the dest ination phon e number and press . 4. Enter the message using the keypad and selected method of entry .

58 Alphabetical text entry Alphabetical text entry characters may be entered in ABC mode, by pressing the corresponding key to the letter you want to enter . Press the same key repeatedly to chan g e between the characters represented by each key . T o change capitalization formats while entering text, press .

60 Inbox Y our phone can store tex t messages in your inbox. T o view your messages: 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display the Message menu. 2. Press to open the Inbox. 3. Use the to highlight the message you wa nt to view . 4. Press . The phone displa ys the message contents.
61 2. Press for Te x t . 3. Press to complete the action. Note: Contact your service provi der for availability . Web Y ou r phone alerts you w ith incoming browser mess ages. When a new message arrives, your phone will display a text notifica tion together with an audible alert.

Message memory capacity Y our phone can store up to 15K or 96 messages. The storage capacity includes all received, sent, filed messag e types, VMN (V oicemail Notification), and text messages.

72 T ask list The T ask List allows you to compile a lis t of items to be completed. Your phone can store, prioritize and man age twenty T ask List items. Creating a task list item: 1. In standby mode, pre ss for the T ools . 2. Press for T ask List .
73 4. Enter the date and time you wa nt to “ Count Down ” to. For example: i f today’ s date is April 1, 2001 an d you want to know how many months, days, and hours remain before 7:00 P .M. February 14th 2002, e nter the time 07:00 P .M. and the date 02 /14/2002.
74 Y our phone only supports a 12 hour time display , it is necessary to press either ,or . These keys represent A. M. and P .M. respectively . Note: Once an alarm is set, an alarm cl ock icon displays on the s creen in standby mode. When the alarm is turned off the alarm clock icon is removed.

Press for Display . 3. Press for Contrast . 4. Scroll between the contrast settings to determi ne what contrast is most visible to you.

88 • Erase PBook • Reset Phone Lock phone Locking the phone limits a ll outgoing calls except ca lls to 911 emergency and the three user -programmabl e e mergency/secret numbers. Y ou can lock the phone manually during use, or set the phone to lock automatically when it is turned on.
89 Unlocking the phone Enter your phone’ s lock code (last four digit s of the phone number or 0000), and the phon e is i mmediately unlocked. Calling in lock mode Y ou can plac e emergency calls using confidential numbers you program in lock mode.
90 Special #s Y our ph one provides the option of st oring three emergency numbers. Each number can be up to 32 digits. All emergency numbers can be manually called at any time even when your phone is locked or restricted. This can be a useful f eature for cont rolling wha t numbers can be called from your phone.

93 Auto answer With this option activated , your phone will automat ical ly answer calls after the specified number of seconds. This option is useful wh en driving. (This function only works when the handset is co nne cted to the Hands-Free Car Kit.) If Auto Answer is set to Off the phone will not a nswer an incoming call.
94 Roaming Roaming on other digital networks When you’re roaming on other digital networks, your call quality and security will be similar to the quality you receive when making cal ls while on your home network. Yo u may not be able to access certa in calling features, such as Wireless W eb.
95 Setting your phone’ s roam mode Y our phone allows you to c ontrol your ability to roam. By using the Roaming menu option, you determine whic h signals your phone accepts. Set mode Choose from three different settings on your phone to control yo ur roaming experience: 1.
