Getting star ted 7 The microphone a t the top of the device is active when y ou use the speakerphone. • Do not cov er the antenna ar ea with your hands or other objects. This may cause connectivity problems or drain the battery . • Do not use a screen prot ec tor .

Getting star ted 11 Removing the SIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the ba tter y . 3 Push the SIM car d until it disengages from the device , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 12 Char ging the ba tter y Charge the batt er y befor e using it for the first time . Use the charger to charge the batt er y . A computer can be also used t o charge the device b y connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 13 Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty . • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery .
Getting star ted 14 Reducing the batter y c onsumption Y our device provides options that help y ou save battery power . By customizing these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.

Getting star ted 17 L ock ing and unlock ing the devic e When not in use, lock the devic e to prevent un wanted operation. P ressing the P ower button turns off the screen and puts the device int o lock mode. The device is automa tically locked if it is not used for a specified period .

Basics 19 U sing the touch scr een Use only fingers to use the t ouch screen. • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • Do not allow the touch scr een to contact water .
Basics 20 Dragging T o move an icon, thumbnail , or preview to a new location, tap and hold it and dr ag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in on a part. Double -tap again to return. F licking Flick left or right to see another panel .
Basics 21 Pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in on a part. Pinch to zoom out. Rotating the scr een Many applications allo w display in either por trait or landscape orientation. Rotating the device causes the display t o automatically adjust to fit the new scr een or ientation.
Basics 22 Star t screen The Start screen is the star ting point to acc ess all of the device ’ s featur es. It displays indicator icons, shortcuts to applications , and others. Basics 25 Changing language ke yboards Y ou must add language keyboards to enter t ex t in other languages. On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap keyboar d → add keyboar ds , and then select the language keyboards y ou want to use .
Basics 26 Joining W i-F i netw orks On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap Wi Fi , and then drag the Wi Fi networking switch to the right. Selec t a network from the list of det ected Wi-F i net works , enter a password if nec essar y , and then tap done .
Basics 27 T r ansferring files Move audio , video , image, or other types of files from the devic e to the computer , or vice versa. The f ollowing file f ormats are supported by some applications. Some file f ormats are not suppor ted, depending on the v ersion of the device ’ s sof tware.

29 C ommunication Phone Use this application to make or answ er a call. T ap Phone on the Applications screen. Mak ing calls Mak ing a call Use one of the f ollowing methods: • history : Make a call from the history of incoming and outgoing calls. • : Ent er the number using the keypad, and then tap call .
Communication 30 During a call The f ollowing actions are available: • hold : Hold a call. T ap hold again to retriev e the held call. • add call : Dial a second call. • answer : Answer a sec ond call. The first call is automatically placed on hold .
Communication 31 Rejec ting a call When a call comes in, tap ignore , or press and hold the headset button. Aut omatically rejecting calls from unw anted numbers On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap call blocking , and then enter a number or select one from the contacts list.
Communication 32 Ending a call T ap end call to end a call. Or pr ess the headset button. P eople Use this application to manage c ontac ts, including phone numbers , email addresses , and others. W eb & network 39 P airing with other Bluetooth devices On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap Bluetooth , drag the Status switch to the right, and det ected devices are listed . S elect the device you want t o pair with, and then accept the aut o -generated passkey on both devices t o confirm.
40 Media Music+V ideos Use this application to list en to music and play videos or podcasts. T ap Music+V ideos on the Applications screen. • Some file formats are not supported depending on the device ’ s software version. • Some files may not play pr operly depending on the encoding used.
Media 41 Crea ting music playlists Make a selec tion of songs to pla y . While playing a song , tap → sav e as playlist , enter a title , and then tap . Pla ying videos Selec t a video category , and then selec t a video to play . Pla ying podcasts Selec t a podcast category , and then selec t a podcast → an episode.
Media 42 Camer a etiquette • Do not take photos or videos of other people without their permission. • Do not take photos or videos where legally pr ohibited. • Do not take photos or videos in places wher e you may viola te other people ’ s privacy .
Media 43 Recor ding mode Open the video player t o play videos. Swtich to still mode . Switch between front and r ear camera. Use other lenses. Change the camera settings. Zooming in and out Spread two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in, and pinch to z oom out.
