5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configuring your hardware, activating your service, and setting up your voice mail.
Getting Started 6 3. Lift up and remove the battery. 4. Carefully slide t he SIM card into th e SIM card socket until the card touc hes the back of the socket. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the phone a nd that the upper-left angled corner of the ca rd is positioned as shown be low.

Getting Started 8 Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A discharged ba ttery recharges fully in approximately 4 hours. 1. With the batter y install ed, temporarily remove t he plasti c cover on the right side of the phone and plug in the travel ada pter’s connector into the jack.
9 Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain; a warning tone so unds and the “Battery lo w” message repeats at regular in tervals on the displa y . In this condition, your phon e conserves its remaining battery power , not by turning off the backligh t, but by entering the dimmin g mode.

Phone strap anchor allows you to connect a strap with which to carr y the phone. 2. Volume keys allo w you to adjust the Ring volume in sta n dby mode (with the phone open) or ad just the Speaker volume during a call.
17 Display Layout Y our phone’ s display screen provides a wealth of informat ion about your phone’ s status and options. The display has three areas: Misse d Mess a ges When you receive new messages, icons di splay in two lo cations: in the Vi ew tab on th e phone’ s screen, and in the icon line at the t op of the screen.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Icons This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on t he icon line on your phone’ s display screen: Shows the received signal strength. The greater th e number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays when phone is in 3G network coverage.
19 Backlight A backlight il luminates the i nte rnal display and the keypad. When you press any key, the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, d e pending on the setting within the Backlight Time menu.
Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a ca ll. It also explains the f eatures and func tionality associated with making or answering a call . Making a Call When the idle screen displays , enter th e numb er you wish to dial and press .
21 Re dialing the Last Number The phone stores t he numbers of the calls you’ve dia led, received, or m issed if the c aller is ident ified. T o recall any of these numbers: 1. If you typed characters on the display , press to return to Idle mode. 2.
Call Functions 22 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, the pho ne rings and displa ys the incoming call image. The call er’ s phone number , or name if the cont act is stored in Contacts, display s. 1. Press or the Accept soft k ey to answer t he incoming ca ll.
23 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unabl e to answer a call for any re ason, you can find out who is calling you, if th is service is available, so that you can call the person back. The number of calls you missed display s on the idle screen on the Missed Call tab, imm ediately afte r a call is missed.
Call Functions 24 Dialed calls This menu allows you to view the 30 most recent calls you dialed. The name and number , if already stored in you r Contacts, displays with the number of occurrences for each number . Note: Selecting the All calls check box automatically selects all the entries in the Delete all menu.
25 Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys vary depend ing on the function you a re currently using. The labe ls on the bottom line of the display just above ea ch key indica te their current role. Selecting Options T o view the v arious functi ons and options avai lable, you must selec t the one you want by: 1.
Call Functions 26 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functi ons that are a vailable for use during a ca ll. Switching off the Micr ophone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your pho ne’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you.
27 1. Press the Options soft key , selec t Swap , and press . The current active call is placed on hold and the call on hold is then reactiva ted so that you can continue conversing with that person. 2. Press when you are finished or want to end the c all.
Call Functions 28 Call Waiting The Call waiting setting must be set to Ac tivate before you can answer an inc oming call while another ca ll is in progress. Y ou are then notified of an incoming c all with a call waiting tone . For more informat ion, refer to “Call waiting” on page 95.
29 Having a Priv ate Conversation With One P articipant When there a re two partic ipants in a multi-party se ssion, it might be neces sary to place one of those part icipants on hold so that a private conversation can be held with a single caller . While you a re in a multi-party call: 1.

31 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to select the desired text input mode wh en entering characters into your phone. This section also des cribes h ow to us e the T9 p redic tive text system to reduce the number of key s trokes associated wi th entering text.
Entering T ext 32 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using your phone, you often n eed to enter text , such as when storing a name in your Con tacts, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter al phanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
33 2. The word that you type displays on the screen. The wo rd may c hange with each consecutive key tha t you press. If the word you desire does not display , press the Up or Down Navigation key or the key until the word you desire displays. 3. When the desired word is displayed, press to insert a space and begi n enterin g the next word.
Entering T ext 34 Using Number Mode The Number mode enables you to en ter numbers into a text message. 䊳 Press the keys corresponding to the digits you want to enter . Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuation marks into text.

Messaging 36 Missed Me ssages T a b The Missed Messages T ab is an area that displays on the screen when a missed call, me ssage, or voicemail is sent to the phone. There are three View tabs th at display icons for missed calls and messages. Use the Left and Right Navigation key to select a View t ab.
37 Creating a Simple T ext Message 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Create message and press the Select soft key or . 2. Highlight the To field, and enter a phone numb er in the recipie.
Messaging 38 Picture Messages Multimedia Messaging S ervice (MMS) all ows you to send a nd receive messages containing pictures to and from other devices that support MMS. This menu allows you to create a n ew pi cture message and then send it to one or more destinations.

Messaging 40 • Settings : – Photo : view the Quality of the P hoto. – Setup : configure Shutter sou nd or Default storage. 3. Hold the phone in landscape mode, and posit ion a subject in the frame, then press the Camera key or to take a photo for the post card.

Messaging 44 – Properties: view basic details a bout the selected message. E-mail Messages The E-mail option allo ws you to send or receive e-mai l from AIM, AOL, or Y ahoo! Mail , or you can select from othe r broadband e-mail providers. E-mail Setup This option allows you to select the e-mail accounts you want to use.
45 Note: Contact T -Mobile customer ser vice for further details. Sentbo x This message box stores sent messages. When you enter this menu, t he list of message s in the Sentbox dis plays with the re cipients’ phon e numbers or names, if availabl e in your Contacts.
Messaging 46 – Sort by : sort the messages store d in this folder by attributes such as Date and Sender . – Properties : for picture messg es, view basic details about the selected message. 3. Press to Edit the message contents. 4. After editing the message, press to Send the message.

Messaging 48 • Reply path : allows the recipient of your message to send yo u a reply message using your message center , if your network supports this service. • Request Delivery report : allows you to activate or dea ctivate the report function.
49 • Service loading : you can specify whether to load this service Always , at a Prompt , or Never . Delete by f older This menu allows you to de lete a ll of the messages in each message box. Or , you ca n also delete all of y our messages in all messag e boxes at o ne time.
People 50 Section 7: P eople This section explains how to us e and manage yo ur Contacts. Using Contacts List Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your Phone. My Profile My Profile allows you to crea te a virtual business card. Once completed, you can send the card to recipients as a V-card attachment.
51 Storing a Number in the Phone’ s Memor y The default storag e location fo r saving phone numbers to your contacts is your phone’ s built-in memor y . As soon as the SIM card is inserted into the han dset, the phone synchr onizes th e Contacts (using th e Mobile backup feature) to the T -Mobi le network.
People 52 Finding a Contact Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and thei r correspon ding names in the phone’ s built-in memory (the Contacts). 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ Contacts an d press . Note: A Phone icon displays to the left of the entry.

People 56 Copying Contacts E ntries Contacts entrie s can be stored o n the phone, o n the SIM card, or b o th. Y ou can copy C ontacts entries between the phone and the SIM card. Note: When storing an Address Book entry on the SIM card, only the Name, Address, and slot location are saved.
57 My n umber This function is a memory aid, which yo u can use to edit or rem ove your ow n phone number . Y ou can also edit the default name assigned to your phone number . 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ My number and press th e Select soft key or .

59 Entering T ext in the Br owser When you are prompted to ent er text, the currently ac tive text input mode is indicated on the sc reen. The following modes are availa ble: • Upper -case character mode (A) : allows you to enter upper -case English characters.
web2go Browsing 60 • Browser settings : various se ttings are av ailable, see “Browser Settings” on page 61. •E x i t b r o w s e r : exits the browser and returns to I dle mode. Enter URL This menu allows yo u to manually enter the UR L address of a web site th at you wish to access.
61 Browser Settings Various settings are availab le when you are using the brow ser to navigate the web. Clear cache Y ou can clear the informati on stored in the cache, whic h is the phone’ s temporary memory and stores the most recently accessed Web pages.
Media 62 Section 9: Media This section outlines the medi a features available on your phone, such as Photos, Music, Images, Sounds, Videos, Games and Apps, Other file s, and Memory Status. Use this menu item to view and manage files stored on the phone, or on an optional installe d memory card.
63 Photos L ist 䊳 Highlight a photo and press the Options soft key to choose from the following op tions: • Send to My Album : send the sel ected photo t o My Album. • Send via : send the p hoto as a Messag e, Audio Po stcard, or to an other Blu etooth compa tible de vice.

Media 70 V oice list The Voice list contains your recorded a udio messages. Highlight an item and press the Options soft key. The following optio ns are available: • Send via : send the audi o message as a message or to a Bluetooth co mpatible device.
71 Videos In this menu, you can access the camcord er feature o f your phone to record new video, or view saved videos. Rec o r d v i de o For more informat ion, refer to “Record video” on page 103. Videos List This menu allows you to access vide os saved on yo ur phone, or on an installed mem ory card.

87 Data roaming This feature allows you to enab le or disable the data roam ing feature on your handset. Import ant!: Once data roaming is disabled, avoid applica tions that may reactivate the data roaming fea ture and charges incurred. Please contact your T -Mobile ser vice center for details.

This transmission can pose a security risk and inci te unauthorized co nnection t o your phone. It i s recommended that you active your phone’ s Bluetooth security .
