Getting Started 6 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring yo ur hardware, activati ng your service, and then setting up your voicemail.
7 3. Lift up and remove the battery. 4. Carefully slide t he SIM card under the metal bracke t and into the SIM card socket until the card locks into place. Make sure that th e card’s gold contacts face into the phone and that the upper- left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown belo w .

Replace the ba tter y: • Slide the b atter y back into th e compartment so that the tabs on the end align with t he slots at the bottom of the phone. • Press the batter y down until it clicks into place. 6. Reinstall the battery cover by sliding it back onto the pho ne until yo u hear it securely click.
9 Installing or R emo ving the Memor y Card Y our phone supports an op tional memory card (microSD ™) for data storage of such things as music, pictures, video, or other files. This type of memory card is designed for use with this mobi le phone and other devices.
Getting Started 10 Char ging a B atter y Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li-ion batter y . A travel ada pter , which is used for charging the batter y , is included with your phone. Use only ap proved ba tteries and chargers. Ask yo ur local Samsung de aler for further details.

Volum e keys allow you to adjust the Ring volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or a djust the Speaker vol ume during a call. When receiving an incoming call, if you press the volume key , you can mute the ring tone.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Display Layout Y our phone’ s display screen provides a wealth of information about your pho ne’ s status and opti ons. The display has three areas: View T ab When you receive new messages, icons di splay in two locations: on the phone’s screen, View T ab, and in the icon bar at the top of the screen.
19 Icons This list identifies the sy mbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Shows the received signal strengt h. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Shows the level of your battery. The more bars you see, the more power remains.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 Backlight A backlight illumina tes the internal display a nd the keyp ad. When yo u press any key , the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given pe riod of time, depending on the setting within the Backlight menu.

23 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and display s the incoming call image. The caller’ s phone numb er , or name if st ored in Contacts, displays.
Call Functions 24 Viewing Missed Calls When you are un able to answer a cal l for any reason, you c an find out who is calling y ou, if this servic e is available, so that you can call the person back. The number of missed ca lls displays on the idle scree n on the Missed Call tab, immediately afte r a call is mi ssed.
25 Answ er ed calls This menu lets you view the 30 most recent calls you received. The name and number , if already stored in your Contacts, is then display ed with the number of occu rrences for each number . V oicemail This menu lets you view the 30 most re cent voicemail calls you received.
Call Functions 26 Selecting Options T o view the various functions and options avai lable, you must select the one you want by: 1. Pressing the appropriate soft key . 2. Selecting the displayed functi on or the highli ghted option, press the Select soft key or the key .
27 Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. If your network supp orts this service, you can also make another call while a c all is in progress. T o place a call on hold: 1. Press the Options soft key , highlight the Hold option, then press the Select soft key o r the key .

33 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to se lect the desired text input mo de when entering ch aracters. This sect ion also describes how to use the T9 predictive text system to reduce the number of key strokes asso c iated with entering text.
Entering T ext 34 5. www/.com - inserts the www . or .com when entering a URL in the browser , or when logging in to Insta nt Messenger . 6. emoticon - inserts a preconfigured smile y face or emoticon. 7. Return - Moves the insertion point to the next line in a message.

Enter text in the text message box using the selected text input mode when the T ext i nput mode indicator that you de sire di splays . Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text inpu t mode that allows you to key in any charac ter using sing le keystr okes.
Entering T ext 36 T o shift case in T9 mode: 䊳 Press the key . There are three c ases: capital l ock, initial capital , and lower case. Using ABC mode T o use ABC mode, use the lette r keys to enter your text. 1. Press the key labeled with the let ter you want, once fo r the first letter , twice for the se cond, and so on.
37 Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuation marks into text. T o display a list of symbols press the key until the symbols displ ay on the screen, or press t he Right soft key and select Symbol . 1. T o select a symbol, press the corresponding number key .

Select one of the fol lowing: • Recent recipients : allows you to select from recipients of your previous message s.

Messaging 44 – Sort by : allows you to sort messages by Read/Unread, Date, Sender , T ype, Subject, Size, or Lock/Unlock. 3. Press Vie w to read the message contents. T o scroll through the contents, press the Up or Down Navigation key . 4. Press Reply to send a reply to the sender by sending a message.

Messaging 46 Listening to an A udio Postcard from the Messag e inbo x 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Messag e inbox . 2. Select an Audio Postcard from the list and press the Options soft key . The following op tions display: •R e p l y : send a reply to th e sender by sendin g a message.
47 Social Buzz This menu item lets you log in to yo ur social networking applications (twi tter , Facebook, or Myspace) and get automatic status updates for each of these applications. 䊳 From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Media ➔ Games and Apps ➔ Social B uzz .
Messaging 48 4. Follow th e voicemail prompts. V oicemail settings 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ V oicemail . Important!: Y ou must activate your account to use this feature. 2. Press Options ➔ Vo icemail settings . 3. Select Record greeting , Change PIN , or Activate now .
49 Audio P ost card In this menu you can select a frame, ta ke a picture, record a voice message up to one minute long, a nd send it as an Audio Postcard. 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Audio postcard . 2. Prior to capturing the picture you can press the Menu soft key and change the Ca mera settings.
Messaging 50 7. Press the Select soft key and cont inue adding additi onal recipients. – or – 8. Press the Send soft key after you select a recipient. IM (Instant Messaging) Instant Messaging is a way of sendin g short, simple messages th at are delivered real time to users online.
51 • Settings : Allows you to Power on Sign In, Auto-sign In, c hange Sound settings, or create F avorite IDs • Help : provides helpful information about ea ch service provider (suc h as Provider name, Provider descriptio n, and Provider URL), or provides Help text for the selected service provider .
Messaging 52 •M o r e : – Move to my folders : the draft message to a personal folder . – Sort by : allows you to sort the messages stored in this folder by Date, Recipient, T ype, Subject, Size, or Lo ck/Unlock. 3. Press the Edit key to edit the m essage contents.
53 4. Select one of the followin g: • Recent recipients : allows you to select a numb er or an ad dress from the l ast 30 destinat ions you enter ed. •C o n t a c t s : allows you to enter the phone number you want f rom your Contact s. • Groups : allows you to select a gr oup.
Messaging 54 Messages Settings In this menu, you can set up default T e xt, Picture, Email, and Push message options, configure the T ext Message Center , and view the Voicemail number . The last setting you accessed is automatically ac tiva ted for sending subsequent messages.
55 • Keep a copy : when this option is enabled, a copy of your message is stored. • Add my name card : allows you to add your name card to your me ssage.
Messaging 56 • Include body when replying : replies to the message mai ntaining the original message. • Include attachments when forwarding : forwards the email message as w ell as attachments to another recipient.
57 Email setup wizard The Setup Wizard guides you through sett ing up your email account information . 1. Press Ye s from the Welcome screen. 2. Enter the Account name and press Next . 3. Enter the email add ress and pa ssword informa tion and press Next .
Messaging 58 Memor y Status T o view the memor y status: From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Settings ➔ Memory status . Y ou can view the amount of the allocated mem ory and the memory availabl e for picture me ssages. The display shows the total space inc luding the used and free space.
59 Section 7: P eople This section explains how to use and mana ge your Contacts. Using Contacts List Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your Phone. Storing a Numb er in the Phone’s Mem or y The default storag e location fo r saving phone numbers to your contacts is your phone’ s built-in memor y .
People 60 • Address : allows you to enter the addr ess for the cont act. •N o t e s : allows you to enter ad di tional informati on about the contac t. Up to 100 characters are allowed. 5. Press to sa ve your selections. The number saves to your selected destinatio n and the new contac t information dis plays.
61 • Print via bluetooth : sends the cont ents of the sel ected contact to a Bluet ooth enabl ed printer . • Mobile backup : allows you to vi ew the Last sync you per formed, or view the About mobi le backup informat ion.
People 62 Social Buzz When you first open this application the Sta tus screen di splays. After login to your social networking applications (T witter , Facebook, or Myspace), status u pdates display automatically in the top box for any of your friends for each of these applications.
63 4. Highlight the newly created group and press . 5. Press Options ➔ Group settings . 6. Highlight the Picture field and press t he key to create a Picture ID for this n ew caller group. Select from one of the fo llowing options: • Wallpap ers : allows y ou to sel ect a wallp aper imag e to use as a Pic ture ID.
People 64 Speed Dialing Once you store phone numbers from your Contacts list, you can set up to 8 speed dial entries and th en easily dial them whenever you want, by pres s ing the associated numeric key . 䊳 From Idle mode, to sp eed dial the numb ers assigned to keys (2 to 9), press and hold th e ap propriate key .
65 2. Highlight Phone or SIM card the press the Select soft key o r the key . By default, all the entries in the Contacts list on the Phone or SIM card are se lected. 3. Highlight each contact yo u want to copy and press to place a check mark next t o the entry .
People 66 My number This function is a memory aid, which you can use to edit or remove your own phone number . Y o u can also edit th e default name assigned to your phone number . 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ My number . 2. Press the key .
67 Section 8: Media web2go This section outlines the web2go feat ures available on your phone. For more information, contact T -Mobile. web2go SM is a W AP (Wireless Application Prot ocol) browser which provi des you wireless access and navigation of the Web using your phone.
Media 68 Entering T ext in web2go When you are pro mpted to enter text, the c urrently activ e text input mode is indicated on the sc reen. The following modes are availa ble: • Upper -case character mode (ABC) : allows you to enter upper -case English characters.
69 – Browser setting s : various settings a re available, see “Browser Settings” on page 70. – Exit browser : exits the browser page yo u are viewing and returns to the Hom e page. Enter URL This m enu allo ws you to ma nually enter the URL address of a web site that you wish to access.
Media 70 Bro wse r Setting s Various settings are available when you are using the web2go browse r to navigate the wireless web. Clear cache Y ou can clear the i nformation stored in the cac he, which is the p hone’ s temporary memory and stores the mo st recently accessed Web pages.
71 Games and Apps Use Games and Apps to download MIDlets (Java appl ications that ru n on mobile pho nes) from vari ous sources using the browser and store them in your phone. 䊳 From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Media ➔ Games and Apps . When you access the Gam es and Ap ps menu, the list of default games displ ays.
Media 72 Google Maps Google Maps allow you to track your cu rrent location, view real-t ime traffic issues, and v iew detailed destination directions. There is also a se arch tool included to help you locate places of interest or a specific address.

Media 78 Wallpapers This folder contains prec onfigured wallp apers. 䊳 Scroll to the wall paper you want to view and press the Options soft key to access the follow ing options: •S e t a s : sets t he image as Wallpaper or as a Picture I D. • T ake photo : allows you to take a p hoto and use it as a wallp aper .
79 Sounds In this menu, you can view the list of sounds downloaded from th e web server or received in picture messages. Y ou can also set a downloaded so und as the current ring tone.

Organizer The Organizer allows you to se t alarm s, schedule appointmen ts, view the cale ndar , create tasks, perform simple math calculations, chec k worl d time, perform unit conv ersions, set a timer , and use a stopwatch.
Organizer 84 – Missed alarm even ts : displays a list of missed alarm events. – Memory status : displays the numb er of calendar events you presently have and how many events you can create fo r each category . For example: 0/50 mea ns you used zero of fifty available events for this category .

Organizer 92 World cloc k This feature al lows you to see th e current time in another part of world. There are two ti me lines availa ble. Y ou can set the first setting to your home ci ty and us e the second setting to check other city times. 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Or ganizer ➔ W orld clock .
93 Timer Y ou can use this menu to set a time r . T o enable the T imer , use the following options: 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Organ izer ➔ Timer . 2. Press the Set soft key and en ter the length of time a s HH:MM:SS and press OK . 3. Press key to start the timer .
Organizer 94 T o configure the RS S reader settings: 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Or ganizer ➔ RSS reader . 2. Press Options ➔ Settings and pres s . 3. Highlight Auto update and press . 4. Press the Right Navigation key to select the frequency the R SS reader updates: RSS reader launch , Daily , or Weekly .
95 Section 10: Camera This section explains how to use the came ra on your phone. Y ou can take phot ographs by using the built-in camera. Using the Camera Using the camera mo dule in your phone, you can take photos of people or eve nts while on the move.
