5 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscri ption details, su ch as your PIN, available optional services, and many others features.
Getting Started 6 Activating Y our Phone 4. Carefully slide t he SIM card into the SIM card socket until the card locks into place. Make sure th at the card’s gold contacts face into the pho ne and that the upper-left angled corner of th e card is positioned as shown below.

Earpiece allows you to h ear the other ca ller and the different ring tones or sounds offered by your phone. 2. Volume keys allow you to adjust the Ring volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the Speaker v olume during a call.
15 13. Navigation key scrolls through the phone’ s me nu options and acts as a shortcut key from standby mode. In Menu mode, scrolls through th e phone’ s menus and Phonebook. In Idle mode: • Down key : allows you to directly access your Contact list.

Understandi ng Y our Phone 18 Help Display Y our phone has a display on the front of the phone. It indicates when you have an incoming call o r message. It also alerts yo u at a specified time when you have set an alarm. The b acklight turns on and the corresponding icon appears on the display .

Call Functions 20 Making a Call Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the number you wish to di al a nd press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra setting.
21 • Call back : Places a cal l back to the number . • Send mes sage : Allows you to send a T ext message, Picture message, or Voice note to the number . • Add to Phonebook : Stores the number in your Phone memory , onto your SIM card, or your SIM c ard(FDN).
Call Functions 22 Call Records Call Records All incoming, o utgoing and missed calls are listed in th e Call Records. Y ou can also view Call time records. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access the Menu mode. 2. Using the Na vigation keys, scro ll to the Call records icon and press th e Select soft key or the key to enter the menu.
23 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unabl e to answer a ca ll for any reason, you can find o ut who is calling you, if this ser vice is a vailable, so that you can call the person back. The number of ca lls you have missed displays on the idle screen imm ediately after a call is missed.
Call Functions 24 Call Records Delete all This menu allows you to delete all of the records in ea ch call record separatel y , or you can delete all of your call records at one time. 1. Highlight the type of calls you want to delete and press the key to make a check mark.
25 Silent Mode Silent Mode is convenient when you wish to stop the pho ne from making any noise, in a theater f or example. In Idle mode, press a nd hold the key until the “Silent Mo de On” message and the Silent Mode icon ( ) ar e displayed. In Silent Mode , instead of sounds, your phone will vibrate.
Call Functions 26 Selecting Functions and Options Selecting Options T o view the various functi ons and options a vailable, yo u must select the one you want by: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . 2. T o select th e function displayed or the option highlighted, press the Select soft key or the key .
27 Putting a Call o n Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service. T o place a call on hold: 1. Press the Options so f t k e y, highlight the Hold option, then press the Select soft key or th e key .
Call Functions 28 Selecting Functions and Options Muting or Sending Key T ones These options allow yo u to turn the key tones off or on. If the Mute keys option is selected, your phone does not transm.

39 Changing the T ext Inp ut Mode When using your phone, you will often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in your Phonebook, creating your pe rsonal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering T ext 40 Using T9 Mode The following optio ns are available: : T9 mode : Number mode : Symbol mode : ABC mode 3. When the T ext input mode indicator that you desi re is displayed, you may enter text in the text me ssage box using the selected text input mode.
41 3. Enter the word you want to add using ABC mod e. For more information, refer to "Changing the T ext Input Mode" on page 39. 4. Press the OK soft key or the ke y after you have finishe d entering the new word. The word is added to the T9 dict ionary and becomes a word for the associated keypress series.

45 •G r o u p : allows you to assign this contact to a group. • Notes : allows you to enter additional information about the contact. Up to 50 characters. 7. Press the Save soft key or press the Options soft key and highlight the Save option and press the Select soft key or the key .

47 Finding a Phonebook Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corre spond ing names onto eit her your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memor y . They ar e physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phon ebook.

Understanding Y our Phonebook 52 Finding My Own Phone Number Finding My Own Phone Number This function is a memory ai d, which you can use to ch eck your own phone number if you need to do so. Y ou can assign a name to ea ch of your own phone number s registered on your SIM card.
53 Management The Management menu allo ws you to select where your contacts will be saved, copy your SIM contacts to your phone, delete your cont acts, sort b y contacts, or check your memory status. Default Saving The Def ault Saving option allows you to ch oose wher e your contact s will be saved.

Y ou c an enter up to 160 standard Al phabet characters per p age in your me ssage. The mess age can be up to 12 pages long for a total o f 1920 characters.

63 Viewing a Pictur e Message from th e Inbo x 1. Highlight an unretriev ed picture message from the list and press the Options soft key . The following opti ons will appear: • Retrieve : begins the process of retrieving the picture message from the voice mail server and preparing it for viewing.
Messages 64 Inbox • Save address: a llows you to cut an d paste the address to send a text messag e, or picture message. • Save media: allows you to save message media to your Imag e folder , Sound folder , vCard, or vCalendar . • Lock: allows you to protect the messa ge from being de leted.
65 • Save me dia : allows you to save messa ge media to your Imag e folder , Sound folder, vCard, or vCalendar . • Lock/Unlock : allows you to protect the m essage from bein g deleted.
Messages 66 Outbox Outbox This message box stores messages that yo u have attempted to send but have not actually been sent yet. When you ente r this menu, the li st of messages in the box displays with the recipients’ phone numbers or names, if availabl e in your Phonebook.
67 While viewing a draft message, you c an choo se different options, depending on the type of message, by pressing the Options soft key . T emplates Besides entering message text using the keypad keys , you can speed mes sage compositio n by includ ing co pies of stored text (T empla tes) in your message.
Messages 68 Delete all Delete all This menu allows you to dele te all of the messages in each message box. Or , you can also delete all of your message s in all message bo xes at one time. Important!: Once message s have been de leted, they cannot be recovered.
69 Picture messa ge The following options are used to set Send and Receive settings for Picture messages. Send Settings • Delivery report : when this option is enabled, t he network informs yo u whether or not your message ha s been delivered.
Messages 70 Instant Messaging (IM) Instant Messaging (IM) Instant Messaging is a way of sending sho rt, simple messages that are delivered immediately to users on line at that moment . Before using th is feature, you nee d to sub scribe to a messenger service.
71 • Community settings : allows you to change your Community settings. • Help : provides helpful information about I M providers such as : Sign up, Sign on, Buddies, Sending IMs, Receiving IMs, Privacy , and Away .

75 • Open to answer : when this option is checked, yo u can simply open the phone to answer a call. Whe n it is unchecke d, yo u must open the phone and press a key to answer the incomi ng call, de pending on the setting of the An ykey answer option.
Changing Y our Settings 76 Display Settings Info display This menu allows you to set te xt style (Outline, Shadow, or Normal) and text color (White, Y ellow, Blue, Green, Red , or Black). 1. Press the Left or Right Navigation ke ys to change the settings.
77 For example, if you set On for 30 sec and Dim for 5 sec , after 30 seconds the backlight on the keys would turn off and 5 seconds later the display light would turn off. 1. Press the Left or Right Na vigation key s to cha nge each field’ s settings.
Changing Y our Settings 78 Sound Settings Calendar This option al lows you to On (enable) or Off (disable) the calenda r display for your background wallpaper . Show caller information By turning this option on, when you miss an incoming call, information such as th e caller name is displayed on your screen when your missed calls are listed.
79 The following opti ons are available: • Melody : the phone rings using the ring melod y selected in the Ringtone menu. • Vibration : the phone vibrates but does not ring . • Vibration then m elody : the phone vibrates 3 time s and then starts ringing.
Changing Y our Settings 80 Bluetooth The following opti ons are av ailable: • Indicative to nes : generates a tone whenever a pop-u p window appears on the screen. • Minute minder : sets whether or not the phone b eeps every mi nute during an outgoing call to keep you informe d of the length of your call.
81 Help This options takes you to the T -Mobile Help menu in t-zones. Network Ser vices Call forwarding This network service enables incoming calls to be re-ro uted to a secondary number that you specify . Example: Y ou ma y wish to forward your business c alls to a collea gue while yo u are on holiday.
Changing Y our Settings 82 Network Services 7. When you select No reply in s tep 2, select the lengt h of time the netwo rk waits for before forwarding a call. The phone sends your settings to the network and the network’ s acknowledge ment displays.

Change PIN This feature allows you to ch ange your current PIN , provided that the PIN chec k feature is e nabled.
85 Loc k application Using this menu, you can lock your applic ations whic h provide acce ss to information such as call records, phonebook, messag es, images, and sounds. Once you have locked the contents, you must enter t he phone’ s password to access th e associated menus.

Fun & Apps 88 Files Files Files allows you to manage your sounds and images in one conv enient location. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access the Menu mode. 2. Using the Na vigation k eys, scroll to the Fun & Apps icon. Press the Select soft key or the k ey to enter the menu.
89 • Delete : allows you to delet e the sele cted sound or multiple sounds. • Rename : allows you to change the name of the sound. • Lock : allows you to lock the sound to protect it f rom deletion. • Properties : displays the sound name, date, form at, length, size, and Lock/Un lock.
Fun & Apps 90 Files More Wallpapers Using the More Wallpapers option, allows you to acce ss the T -Mobile website and download new images using the t-zone browser . 䊳 Highlight the Wallpaper op tion and press the key . Note: When downloading Wallpapers, char ges may appl y .
91 Download ed images This menu allows you to access your downloaded images. Scroll to the image you want to view . By pressing the Options soft key you can access the following options: • Download new : opens your web b rowser where you can download new images.
Fun & Apps 92 Games Memor y Status Y ou can check the amount of memory being used and me mory remaining for sounds and images. Press the Left or Right navigation keys to scro ll between th e memory status of Sounds and Images.
93 Camer a For information on usi ng your camera, see "Cam era" on page 101. Organizer The Organizer allo ws you to set alarms, schedule appointments, view the calendar , create T asks, perfo rm simple math calcula tions, check world time, pe rform unit conversions, set a time r , and use a stopwatch.

Camera 102 Using the Camera Using the Camera Using the camera module in you r phone, you can take ph otos of peopl e or events while on the move. Additio nally , you can send these photos to other people in a Picture Messaging messa ge or set a wallpaper or caller ID image.
