4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes the first steps to operat ing your phone. Re mo vi ng th e Batter y 1. If necessary , power-off the phone b y pressing and hold ing until the power -off image is displayed. 2. Lift up (1) and remove the back cover from the phone (2).
Getting Started 5 Replaci ng the Batt er y 1. T o reinstall the battery , with the battery cover op en, align th e battery contacts with the pins in the batte ry compartment in the phone (1).
6 Note: The battery must be properly installed before charging the ba ttery or switching on the phone. Charging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use the wall charger to charge the battery , and use only Sam sung approved batteries and chargers.
Getting Started 7 2. Plug the other end of the wall charge r into a standard AC wall outlet. 3. When the phone is c ompletely charged, unplug t he charger from th e wall outlet. 4. Remove the wall charger from the phone by gently pu lling the connec tor out.

It also displays the screen and the icons that are d isplayed when the phone is in us e. F eatures of Y our Phone Y our phone is lightwe ight, easy-to-use and offers ma ny significant features.
10 Ke y s The following l ist correlates to the f ront view illustra tions. 1. Earpiece : Used to listen to audio. 2. Left soft key : In the Idle screen, press the Menu (left) soft key to access your Main menu . The left soft ke y allows you to selec t the function ind ica ted by the screen text on the bott om left of the display .

12 Icons Note: The default Profile is Normal. The profile is editable, and the displayed icons may vary according to the settings. T o edit Profile settings, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Profiles . Shows the receiv ed signal st rength. The greater numb er of bars indicates a stronger signal.
Understanding Y our Phone 13 Backligh t A backlight illumina tes the di splay and the keypad when yo u press any key . It turns off when no keys are pressed within a give n peri od of time, and /or dims the li ght, depending on the settings in the Settings ➔ Displa y ➔ Light menu.
14 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functions that can be cust omized fo r yo ur use. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus, accessed using the two soft keys. Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Understanding Y our Phone 15 Left Soft K ey Some functions of the left soft key are as follo ws. • In the Idle screen, press th e Menu (left) soft key to open the Menu screen. • When in a menu mode, the left s oft key function is Select . Right Soft K ey Some functions of the right soft key are as follo ws.
16 Na vigation K ey Use the directional keys on the Navigat ion key to browse menus, sub menus, and lists. Press the Up or Down Navigation keys when jumping to highli ghted links on the web. The Up or Down Navigat ion keys also adjust th e Ring volume in the Idle screen and, in a call, they allow yo u to adjust the earp iece volume .
Call Functions 17 Section 3: Call Functions This section descri bes how to make or answe r a call. It also includes the features and functionali ty associated with mak ing or answering a c all. Making a Call In Idle mode, enter t he area code and phone number , and press the key .
18 Manual Pause Di alin g When you call automa ted systems, you are often required to en ter a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbe rs each time, you can dial the numbers along with specia l characters ca lled pauses. T o manually call a num ber with pause(s) wi thout stor ing it in your Contact List: 1.
Call Functions 19 Making a Call from your Contact List Y ou can store phone numbers that you u se regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memory . These entries are c ollectively c alled th e Contact list . Once you have stor ed a number in the Contact list , you can dial it by pressing a few keys by storing the cont act in your F avorites.
20 Recen t Calls The phone stores the numbers of the calls you have Missed, Rece ive d or Dialed in the Recent Calls menu. Y ou can quickly access this me nu from the Id le screen by pressing the key . If the number or c aller is listed in your Address Book, the associated name di splays.
Call Functions 21 Viewing Missed Calls The number of calls you have missed is displayed on the Idle screen. T o view the number details: 1. Press the Vie w soft key . The most recently missed ca ll is displayed . Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected.
22 Sav i ng a Misse d Call to y our Address Book T o save the mis sed call e ntry to your addres s book, use the f ollowing steps: 1. Press the Vie w soft key . A li st of the most re cently missed call s is displayed. 2. Select the desired missed call.
Call Functions 23 Delet ing a M issed Call T o delete a missed call entry: 1. Immediately af ter missing a c all, press th e Vie w soft key. 2. Press the Options soft key , then select Delete . The call log is deleted immedia tely . Note: Y ou can press the key at any time to exit the Missed Call feature.
24 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a numbe r of control functions that you can use during a call. Adjusting the Call V olume Adjust the earpiece volu me dur ing a call by pressing the Up and Down Navig a tion keys. Press the Up Naviga tion key to increase th e volume level and press the Down Navigation key to decrease the volum e level.
Call Functions 25 Switching betw een the tw o calls 1. Press the Swap soft key . The current ca ll is placed on h old and the pr evious call on hold is reacti vated.
26 In-Call Opti ons During a call, press the OK key to turn the Speaker On or Off . Press the Options soft key to a ccess the following: • Speaker On/Off : turns your microphone on and off. • Mute/Unmute : allows you to mute and unmute your phone.
Call Functions 27 Mutin g or Sending Keypad T ones These options allow yo u to turn the key tone s off or on. If the Mute Keys option is selected, it all ows you to press keys without hearing key tones during a call. Note: T o communicate with answering machines or computerized telephone systems, the Send Keypad T one option must be selected.
28 Call W aiting The Call Waiting feature alerts you of an incoming call while you ha ve a call in progress, if this service is supported by the network. T o activate th e Call waiting feature, press Menu ➔ S ettings ➔ Call ➔ Vo ice Calls ➔ Call W aiting and select Option ➔ Activate .
Call Functions 29 3-Way Calling (M ulti-Party Calling) The 3-Way or Multi-P arty feature allo ws yo u to answer a series of incoming calls and place them on hold. If this service is supported by the network, and the SIM has the feature enabled, all calls can be joined toge ther .
30 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. It also includes an overview of al l the available menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu options are controlled by the SIM provided by your ser vice provider .
Menu Navigation 31 Using Shortcuts Numbered menu items, such as menus, sub-menus, and options can be quickly accessed by using their shortcut numbe rs. In Menu mode, Main Menus can be accessed by pressi ng the number ke ys (1 to 9) corresponding to their location on the screen.
32 Section 5: Messaging This section describe s how to send or receive text messages. It also inc ludes the features and functi onality associated with messaging. Creating and Sending New Messages 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Create Message .
Messaging 33 4. When you have finished composing your message, press Options ➔ Send to send the message to th e selected recipients. Viewing New Receiv ed Messa ges 1. In Idle mode, new messages ar e indicated by i cons and a New Messages pop- up . The following ic ons indicate the message type.
34 Using Message Options Message options at the Inbox level differ according to the message type, wha t you have done with the me ssage, and whether you are viewing the message.
Messaging 35 Inbo x The Inbox message box stores co pies of messages you received. Sentbo x The Sentbox message box stores copies of mess ages you sent. Outbo x The Outbox message box stores copies of outgoing messages, both those sent successfully and those that failed.
36 Deleting Messages When your phone’ s memor y is full, an error message displa ys and you cannot receive any new messages. Use the Delete option eras e obsole te messages, freeing memory for new messages. Y ou can delete the messages in each messa ge fo lder(s) individual ly or all at one time.
Messaging 37 T ext Message The T ext Message settings provide Sending Op tions. Y ou may be ab le to access the following optio ns, if they are available fr om your service provider: Reply P ath, Keep a C opy , Validity P eriod, and Message Type.

Understanding Y our Contact List 39 Contact List Entr y Options While in th e Contact list with any of the default entries hi ghlighted, press the Options soft k ey to use acces s the foll owing options: • Vi ew : provides you with details about that contact entry .
40 F av orites L ist Y ou can assign up to 8-Favorites entries an d then dial them easily whenev er you want, simply by pre ssing and holding the as sociated numeric key . Y ou can set up Favorites entries by going to Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Favorites and selecting an Empty position in your F a vori tes list.
Changing Y our Settings 41 Section 7: Changing Y our Settings This section includes tips on how to use some of use s ome of your phone features, as well as h ow to change and customize th e display settin gs, call handling, security settings, and other settings a ssociated with your phone.
42 • Wallpap er : allows you to make a selection from the default wall papers or to have them randomly displayed. • My Theme : allows you to choose your theme from the following options: Ocean, Skyline, Emerald, Samsung theme or Plum. Highlight your selection a nd press Save to select and save.
Changing Y our Settings 43 • Airplane Mode : while turned on, allows you to have limited use of your phone features while prohibited from making or rece iving ca lls or data transmission. The H ome screen displays, Airplane Mode , while Airplane Mode is turned ON .
44 • Change Pa ssword : allows you to change your password to a new one. Y ou must enter the current password befor e you can specify a new o ne. Once you h ave entered a new password, you are asked to confirm it by entering it again. • Change PIN Code : allows you to change your current PIN, provided the PIN check feature is enabled.
Changing Y our Settings 45 Memor y The Memory menu allows you to clear your phone memor y and to view the memor y status. 䊳 In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key and select Settings ➔ Memor y to choose from the menu optio ns. • Clear Phone Memory : allows you to specify All, M essa ges or Contacts.
