5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessar y to install both the batter y and SIM into their correspondin g internal compartments.
Getting Started 6 䊳 Carefully slide the SIM card into the S IM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place. • Make sure that the c ard’ s gold contacts fa ce into the phone and that the upper-left angl ed corner of t he card i s positio ned as shown.
7 Installing the Batter y 1. Insert the batter y into the openi ng on the back of the phone, making sure the connectors align (1). 2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2). 3. Place the battery cover on to the back of the ph one (1) and press down (2).
Getting Started 8 Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approximately 4 hours. Using the Trav el Ad apter 1. With the batte r y installed , slide the plastic cover open (top left side of phone) .
9 When the batter y level becomes t o o low , the phone automatically turns off. Switching the Phone On or Off 1. Press and hold (on the upper right side of the phone) until the phone switches on. 2. Sweep your finger across th e glass to unlock the phone .

Understanding Y our Phone 20 Market : Android Market provides access to downloadable applications and games to in stall on your phone. Android Market also al lows you to provide feedbac k and comments about an application, or fl ag an application that might be incompatible with y our phone.
21 MobiTV : MobiTV is a subscription ser vice th at allows yo u to watch your favorite TV shows us ing your handset. F or more information, refer to “MobiTV” on page 73. Music Player : Music Player allows you to play music files that you have stored on your microSD card.

27 Navigating Using Sub-Menus Sub-menus are availa ble when you are at any Home sc reen or have selected a feature or application such as Phone, Co ntacts, Messaging, or Web. T o access a sub-menu: 1. Ta p . A sub-menu will appear at th e bottom of th e phone screen.

Memory Card Y our device lets you use a microSD ™ (SD) or microSDHC ™ card to expand available memory sp ace. This secure digital card enables you to excha nge imag es, music, and data between SD-compatible devices.
35 T o mount the SD card: 1. Insert the SD card into the ex ternal, SD card slot. For more information, refer to “Installing the Memor y Card” on page 6.
Call Functions 36 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a call. It also includes the features and functionality associa ted with making or answering a call . For more informat ion, refer to “Cal l Settings” on page 102.

Call Functions 38 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phon e numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memory . These entries ar e collectively called th e Address Book . For further details about the Address Book fea ture, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 59.
39 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Appl ication menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and initia te a call by touching . When you manually enter numbers from the Dialer , you will see three dialin g options displayed on the screen. • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on-s creen keypad.
Call Functions 40 Call Log The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’ve dialed, received, or missed in the Call log . The Call log displays the details of the call. 1. From t he Home screen, touch . 2. T ouch Call log . A list of recent calls i s displaye d.
41 Calling Back a Missed Call T o call back a missed call number: 1. From the Home screen, touch ➔ Call log . A list of rece nt call s is displayed. If th e number or caller is listed in your Address Book, the associated name is displayed. 2. T ouch the desired missed call.

Call Functions 44 – T ouch Mute again to unmute the microp hone. The green line will tu rn grey when Mute is no t activated. • Headset connects to a Bluetooth headset. – T ouch Headset during a call to act ivate a Bluetooth headset. A green line will appear under the He adset button.
45 T o end a specific call 1. T ouch Swap until the call you want to end appears in a green box. 2. T ouch to end the specific call. 3. Press the key to end the remai ning call. Using the Speak er phone During an Active Call While in an active call, it is possible to enable the speakerphone feature.
Call Functions 46 Bluetooth headset 1. T ouch Headset . 2. The phone will sc an for your Bluetooth headset. When found, connect to the headset. The Headset button now appears as and the Bluetooth headset is activated. 3. T ouch Headset to deactiva te the Bluetooth headset and reactiva te the phone speaker .

Entering T e xt 48 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to se lect the desired text input method when ent ering characters into your pho ne. This section also describes the predictive text entry system that reduces the amount of key st rokes associated with enteri ng text.
49 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two m ain keypad layout ke ys that will change the on- screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear . When in Sym mode, the Abc / ABC / abc button will appear .
Entering T e xt 50 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode t o add numbers, symbols, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. T ouch at the bottom of t he screen. The following screen displays: 3. T ap the desired number , symbol, or emoticon characters.
51 6. Begin typing a word. A list of word option s is displayed. T ouch o ne of the words to replace th e word that has already been typed or touc h for more word choices. 7. Continue typing your messa ge. T a p to send the message o r tap for more options.
Entering T e xt 52 • Auto-capitalization : automatically capi talizes the first l etter of a sentence. •W o r d P r e d i c t i o n : uses a bu ilt-i n word data base to pre dict words while entering text in Swype. • Enable Tip Indicato r: turns on an on-scr een flashin g indicator t hat provides helpful user information.
53 Using the Handwriting F eature Y ou can enter text simply by usi ng your finger to handwrite letters on your screen. 1. From a screen where you can en ter text, hold the phone in the portrait orientation and touch the Keypad types icon ( ) to change the screen to Handwr iting mo de.
Entering T e xt 54 After writing each character , sugg estions will be offered in c ase the correct lette r was not recognized. Handwriting Tips • For uppercase letters, write the letter larger than the lowercase letters. • Write a dash (horizontal line) to add a space.
55 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Addr ess Book This section allows you to manage your daily contact s by stor ing their name and number in your Addre ss Book. Address Book entries can be sorted by name, entry , or group. Y o u can also synchronize your phone Address Book w ith AT &T Address Book, the ne twork backup service.

Contacts and Y our Address Book 58 Adding Pause s to Contact Numbers When you call automated system s, you are often required to enter a password or ac count number . Instead of manually entering the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with specia l characters ca lled pauses and waits.

71 Music Player The Music Player is an applica tio n that can play music files. The music player supports files with extensions AAC, AAC+, eA AC+, MP3, WMA, 3GP , MP4, and M4 A. Launching the Music Player allows you to naviga te through yo ur music li brar y , play so ngs, and create playlists (music files bigger than 300 KB are displayed).
Multimedia 72 • Add to quick list : adds the current music file to the Quick list. • Via Bluetooth : scans for devices and pairs with a Bluetooth headset. • Share music via : allows you to sha re your music by using AllSha re, Bluetooth, Gmail, or Messa ging.
73 3. Press ➔ Create . 4. T ype a name for this playli st in the field and touch Save . Adding Music to a Playlist T o add files to the play list: 1. From the Home screen, touch ➔ Music Player . 2. T ouch the Playlists tab. 3. T ouch the playlist name in which to add music.

79 Camera and Camcorder Options Options are represented by i cons across both sides of the screen. Note: The options disappear after a few seconds. T ouch the screen to make them reappear . Camera / Camcor der Mode : allows you to take a photo in various modes.
Multimedia 80 Scen e mode : allows yo u to set the Scene to help take the best pictures possible. Opti ons include None, P ortrait, Landscape, Night, Sports, Party/Ind oor , Beach/Snow , Sunset, Dawn, Fall colour , Fi rework, T ext, Ca ndlelight, and Backlight.
81 • ISO : ISO determines ho w sensitive the light meter is on your digital camera. Ch oose from Auto, 100, 200, 400, or 800. Use a lower ISO number to make your camera less sensitive to li ght, a h.
Multimedia 82 Pictur es an d Video s Ima ge Viewer Opt ions After you take a photo or shoot a vi deo, you can access various options from the Pictures and Videos Ima ge Viewer . Available options are: • Next Picture : displays the next picture (only displays in camera mode).
83 • Set as : allows you to assign the current image as e ither your current Wallpaper or as a Contact ic on to display for a specific entry within your Address Book. • More : allows you to do the following: – Send to Online Lo cker : allows you to send y our picture to Online Locker .

Selecti ng and U sing th e Pictur es From t he Image viewer , you have access to both macro functions (zoom, crop , and rotate) and menu o ptions. For more i nformation, refer to “Pictures and Vide os Image Viewer Options” on page 82.
85 Shooting Vide o Tip: When shooting video in direct sunlight or in bright conditions, it is recommended that you provide your subject with sufficient light by having the light source behind you. 1. From the main Home screen, touch Camera to activate the camera mode.
Multimedia 86 Before you select a vide o to play , touch in the Camera folder to see the fo llowing options: • Share : lets you share the selec ted videos with Picasa, AllShare, Messaging, Gmail, Bluetooth, or Y ouT ube. • Create folder : create a new sub-folder in the current folder .
87 • Full-Screen in Ratio View : the video is enlarged as much as poss ible without becoming distorted. T ouch the Full-Screen in Ratio View icon ( ) to return to the original size. • Pau se /R es um e : touch to pause the video being played. To u c h to resume playing.
Messaging 88 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to send and receiv e diffe rent types of messages. It also inc ludes th e fea tures and function ality associated with messaging.
89 3. If adding a recipient from Rece nt, Contacts, or Group, tap the contact to place a checkm ark then tap Select . The contact will be placed in the recipient field. Note: For the Group option, if the number of recipients is less than 10, all members in the group will be added.
Messaging 90 • Attach : allow s you to attach t he follow ing: – Slideshow : allows you to create up to a 10 page slideshow to attach to the message. – Pictures : allows you to tap an existing image from your Pictures list to add it to your message.

Messaging 92 Message Threads Sent and received text and picture messages are grouped into message threads. Threaded messa ges allow you to see a ll the messages exchanged (similar to a chat program) and displays a contact on th e screen.

Messaging 94 Using Email Email enables you to revie w and crea te email using AIM ® , AOL ® , Ya h o o ! ® Mail, Comcast, Compuserve, Earthlink, Gmail, HotPO P , Juno, Mac, NetZero, SBC Y ahoo!, Verizon and several other email services. Y ou can al so receive text message alerts wh en you receive an important e mail.
95 Important!: Only some “Plus” accounts include POP access allowing this program to connect. If you are not able to sign in with your correct email address and password, you may not have a paid “Plus” account. Launch the Web browser to access your account.
