4 Important safety precautions Read these guidelines before using your wireless phone. F ailure to comply with them may be dangerous or illegal. Drive safely at all times Do not use a hand-held phone while driving; park your vehicle first.

Pull the stylus pen out of the stylus pen holder . When you are not using the stylus pen, insert it back into the stylus pen hol der .
Getting started 10 Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscr iption details, suc h as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others details. • K eep all miniature S IM cards out of the reach of small children.

T o turn off the phone, press and hold . Conserving battery power Y ou can conserve power by the following methods: • Switch to Sleep mode b y pressing .
Getting started 14 Adjustin g th e pow e r se tti ng s Y ou can conserve battery power by adjusting the Power settings. During standby , the phone goes to Sleep mode after a specified period of time of inactivity , so very little power is being consumed.
15 Getting started 3. Select the backl ig ht settings: In the Battery Power tab, set whether or not the phone turns off the back ligh t automatically , if the phone is not used for the specified period of time.
16 2 The basics This chapter explains basic information about using your phone, such as customising your phone and using online help. Using the Today screen Y ou will see the T oday screen when you first turn on your phone’s power . Y ou can also display it by tapping Start → Today from any application.
17 The basics Appears when EDGE network is available. When an EDGE connection is active, appears. Appears when you’re roaming outside of your home area and logged onto a different netw ork. Shows the signal strength . T apping this icon shows the network connection status: • : Y ou are outside a service area or in a limited service area.

Regional se tt ings Y ou can change regi on, number , currency , and time and date formats appropriate to the countries in question. 23 The basics Error reporting sett ing Y our phone has the Error R eporting function which informs you of errors in a program that can give a crash to the phone system. Y ou can enable or disable this function. 1. From the Start menu, tap Settings → System tab → Error Reporting .

25 The basics Screen realignment When you turn on your phone’s power for the first time, you are guided through the alignment process. Realign your screen if: • your phone does not respond accurately to your s creen taps. • you pe rfo rm a hard reset of your phone.
The basics 26 Using the Application Launcher Y our phone pr ovides you with Application launcher , which allows you to access shortcuts to your favourite programs, website, fi le s or folders, and q uickly access them. T o open the Application Launcher: Ta p Launche r from the T oday screen or press and hold .
27 The basics Deleting your favouri te items 1. From the F avourite s folder , move to the item you want. 2. T ap Menu → Delete or Delet e all . 3. T ap OK to confirm the deletion. Searching for items The Search application on your phone helps you to qu ickly locate data it ems.

29 The basics Adding and removing programs Programs added to y our phone at the factory are stored in RO M (Read Only Memory). Y ou cannot remove this software, and you’ll never accidentally lose ROM contents. ROM progra ms can be updated using special installation programs with a *.
The basics 30 Y ou may see a single *.xip, *.exe, or *.zip file, a Setup.exe file, or several version s of files for different device t ypes and processors. 31 The basics 2. In the Version tab, make a note of the information in the Processor field. 3. Download the progr am to you r ph on e straight from the Internet using Internet Explorer on your phone. Y ou may see a single *.xip, *.exe, or *.zip file, a setup .
The basics 32 Removing pro grams 1. From the Start menu, tap Settings → System tab → Remove Programs . 2. Select the program y ou want to delete, and then tap Remove . 3. When a confirmation message appe ars, tap Yes . The program will be re moved from your phone.
33 The basics T o perform a sof t reset : Press the RESET key inside the hole on the right of the phone with your stylus pen. Performing a hard reset Y ou can reset your phone’s settings and clear all added data from memory . From the Start menu, tap Settings → System tab → Hard Reset → Hard Reset .
The basics 34 In the Storage Card tab, you can view the amount of available memory on the memory ca rd when you ins ert it to the phone. In the Running Programs tab, you can view the list of pr ogr ams that are currently operating, and stop any of them.

36 3 Entering information Y ou have several options for entering new inform ation: • Use the input panel to enter t ext, either by using the onscreen keyboard or another input method. • W rite directly on the screen. • Dra w pictures on the screen.

46 4 Synchronising information Using Microsoft ® ActiveSync ® , you can synchronise the infor mation on your computer with the information on your phone. Synchronisation compares the data on your phone with your computer and updates both computers with the most recent inf orm ation.
47 Synchronising information Installing ActiveSync Before beginning synchronisation, you must install ActiveSync on your desktop computer using the supplied CD-ROM. Y ou can also download the latest version of ActiveSync from the M icrosoft web site (http: // www .

49 Synchronising information Synchronising information T o begin synchronisation, connect your phone to your computer . For more information on connecting the phone to the computer , see page 47. The Microsoft ActiveSync window on y our computer automatically appears a nd synchronisation starts.

51 Synchronising information When you do not w ant to synchronise with an Exchange Server , you can delete a serv er connection profile on your phone. 1. In ActiveSyn c on your phone, tap Menu and select Options... 2. Select the se rver name, such as Exchange Server , and select Delete .
52 5 Call functions As well as all the standard feat ures of a mobile phone, such as mailbo x and call history , there ar e several dialling features unique to your phone. For example, you can take n otes while talk in g, dial directly from Microsoft Con ta cts and easily tr ansfer contacts between your SIM card and the RAM of your phone.
53 Call functions Turning the phone functions off or on As indicated previously , your phone will turn on when you install the batt ery and insert a SIM card. However , you can choose to tur n off your phon e and j ust use the PDA features at any time – and then turn it back on when you want.

57 Call functions Answering or rejecting a call When someone calls yo u, the phone alerts you by ringing or vibrating, depending on the ringer type you have set. T o change the ringer type, see page 24. • T o answer a call, tap Answer or press . • T o reject a call , tap Ignore or press .
Call functi ons 58 Making a second call Y o u can make another call during a call. 1. T ap Hold to put the fi rst call on hold . 2. T ap Keypad and make the second call in the normal way . 3. T o switch back and forth between the two callers, tap Swap .
59 Call functions 2. Create your note and then tap . Y ou can finish your note during or after the call. After you have sa v ed the note, it will be saved as an attachment to your call in one of the Call Hist or y folders. Y ou can also access the note in the Calls folder in Notes .

T o delete all recor ds, tap Menu → Delete All Calls . Viewing call time rs In Call History , you can view the duration of your calls.

In the Tone tab, select the option you want in each field. • Connection tone : allows you to set whether or not your phone sounds an alert tone when your call is connected. • Minute mi nder tone : allows you to set whether or not your phone sounds an alert tone every minute during a call.

67 Call functions • Internatio nal except to h ome country : When abroad , calls can be made only to numbers within the current country and to your home country , which is the country where your home network provider is located. • Off : Call barring is deactivated; all calls can be made and received norm ally .
Call functi ons 68 • Unavailable : If your phone is turned off or your phone is out of the netwo rk service area, all call s are forwarded. • Busy : When you are on the p hone, all calls are forwarded. 4. T ap . Call waiting This service al lows you to receive another call while you have a call in progress.
69 Call functions Checking your voicemail The first speed dial location defaults as your voicem ail server . T ap and hold 1 on the Dialling screen. Viewing the co st of calls This network feature lets you check the cost of your last call and all calls.
Call functi ons 70 Band sele ction For t h e phone to make and receive p hone calls, it must be reg i ster ed with one of the available networks. Y our phone can handle combined GSM 900/1 800, GSM 1900 network, and Quad band (GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/1900) .
71 Call functions Fixed Dialling Numbers (FDN) mode When this option is enabled, your phone restricts your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers, which are stored on the SIM card. T o enable the FD N list: 1. From the Start menu, tap Settings → Personal tab → Phone .

In the To field, enter the recipients’ phone numbers, separating them with a semicol on. Y ou can retrieve numbers f rom the contact list by t apping Menu and selecting Add Recipient.

Organiser 94 Viewing and edit i ng an appointment Y o u can view your appointment s in the different views: Age nda, Day , W eek, Month, or Y ear and edit t he appointments. By default, the Calendar first appears in t he Agenda view , which provides the most det ail about your appointment.
95 Organi ser Note : If you are sending the meeting request through a connection to an ISP or the network, rather than through synchronisation wi th your computer , tap Menu → Options... → Appointments tab. In Send meeting requests via , tap the service you want to use to send the meeting request.
Organiser 96 Viewing and edit i ng a note When you access the Notes application, the note list displays the first line of each note you cre ate. This makes it easy to locate and review your notes. Y ou can easily sort notes on the note l ist. 1. On the note list, tap the note you want to view .

99 8 Multime dia Camera With the bu ilt -in c amer a of you r phone, you can take photos or record videos of people or events while on the move. Y our phone produces JPEG photos and 3GP videos. To o p e n C a m e r a : From the Start menu, tap Programs → Camera .

On the Camer a preview screen, tap Menu and press the Up or Down na vigation key to scroll through the options, or tap the camera option icons on the screen. The following options are av ailable: • Mode : switches b etween Camer a mode and Camcorder mode.
101 Multime dia 2. Adjust the image to be recorde d. • Press the Left or Right navigation k ey to zoom in or out. The zoom lev el may vary depending on the image resolution. • Press the Up or Down navigation key or V olume keys to adjust the brightness.
