Getting started 12 Inserting the SIM card 1. R emove the battery cover . 2. Insert and slide the SIM card , as shown, ensuring that the gold-coloured contacts of the card are face down. Using the Home screen When you turn on your de vice, the Ho me screen, t he device’ s idle screen, appear s. Y ou can also access this screen by pressing from any program .
The basic s 18 Appears when you are roaming out of your home service area and log ged onto a different GPRS network. Appears when a 3G (UMTS) connection is av ailable in the network. Appears when Wi-Fi is acti vated. It also indicates the Wi-Fi connection status: • : The device is connecting to a Wi-Fi network.

The basic s 24 Customising your device Y ou can customise the phone settings to suit the way you work. Operator Settings Use this menu to set a servic e pro vider according to the USIM/SIM card you are using. When y o u select a service provid er , the p hone will automa tically turn itself off and then back on.

The basic s 42 5. Double-click the *.exe file on the com puter . If the file is an installer , the installation wizard will begin. F ollow the instructions on the screen. Once the software has been installed, the installer will automatically transfer the softw are to your device.

3 46 Synchronisation Using Microsoft ® ActiveSync ® , you can synchronise data on your desktop computer with the data on y our device. Synchronisation comp ares the data on yo ur device with your desktop comp uter and updat es both your devi ce and computer with the latest data.
Synchronisation 47 Installing ActiveSync Before beginning synchronisation, you must install Acti veSync on yo ur desk top comput er using t he suppli ed CD-ROM. Y ou can also downlo ad the latest version of ActiveS y nc from the Microsoft web site (http://www .
Synchronisation 48 Customising co nnection settings T o establish a connection betw een your comp uter and the device, you must enable the connections you want to use in the ActiveSy nc program . By default, all connections are enabled. 1. From the ActiveS ync window on your computer , select File → Connection Set tings.
Synchronisation 49 The connection is established and the Microsoft ActiveS ync window appears. The synchron isation automatically b egins. Notes : • When an error occu rs with a USB connect ion, activate the DHCP Client service, or deactiv ate the firewall or VPN environm ent.

Setting server synchronisation Y ou can synchronise information automatically as items arri ve only if your company r uns Microsoft Exchange Server with Exchange Activ eSync.

4 54 Call functions This chapter explains all of the call functions provided by your d evic e. Turning the phone functions on and off Y ou can choose to turn off the phone functions and just use the PDA functions at any time and then turn it back on when you want.
Call functions 55 Making a call Y ou can make a phone call using the number k eypad. As well as normal vo ice calls, yo u can mak e video calls in a 3G (UMTS) network. Note : In some networ ks, you may be unable to use c all functions when HS DPA connections are enabled.
Call functions 56 Advanced ca lling features Y ou can make a call from C ontacts, Speed Dial, and Cal l History . Making a call from Contacts 1. On the Home screen, press the Contacts soft key . Y ou can also press the Start soft key and select Contacts .

Call functions 58 Making an emergency call Y our device provides the emerg ency number 112 . This number can normally be used to make an emergency call in any country , with or without a SIM card inserted , if you are within a mobile phone network’ s service area.
Call functions 59 Options during a call Y our device provides a number of control functions that you can use while a call is in progress. Answering a second call If a person is trying to ca ll you when y ou are talking on the device, a notification window wil l pop out.
Call functions 60 • Conference : makes a conference call when y ou have an active call and a call on hold. Y ou can have a conversation with up to 5 p eople at the same time. • Private : allows you to have a pr ivate con versation with the selected conference call participant.
Call functions 61 • Advanced : allows you to send the D TMF tones of numbers or a file to the person with whom y ou are speaking. • Switch to vo ice call : turns off the camera and switches the call to a voice call. • Options : allows you to change the options for video calls.
Call functions 62 Adding a contact to the Speed Dial li st 1. On the Home screen, press the Contacts soft key . Y ou can also press the Start soft key and select Contacts . 2. Select a contact from the list. 3. Scroll to a number , e-mail address, or web page address.
Call functions 63 To open Call History : On the Home screen, press the Start soft key and select Call History . A list of all calls appears. If necessary , select the category of the call history to be displaye d by pressing the Menu soft key and selecting Filter .

Customising your phone functions Y ou can personalise the settings of the phone functions, the services you hav e, and the network to which you have connected.
Call functions 65 Phone numb er : Check your phone number . Voice mail number : When you ins ert your SI M car d into your device, the device au tomatically detects and sets your vo icemail access numbe r by default. If not, you can manually enter the number obtained from your service provider .
Call functions 66 • Fixed Dialling : When this option is activated, y our device allows outg oing calls only to the limited set of phone numbers. Y ou can call only those numbers that are included in the Fixed Dialling Number list or which begin with the same digit(s) as a phone number on the list.
Call functions 67 Reset Call Cost : allows you to reset the cost counter . Edit Cost Limit : allows you to enter the maximum cost that you author ise for your calls. Ca lls can be made as long as the preset max cost is not ex ceeded. Price/Unit : allows you to set the cost of one unit.
Call functions 68 • Call Barring : This network service allows you to restrict your incoming or ou tgoing calls. T o se t up this service, you need to en ter the call barring password obtained from your service pro vider . F or incoming call barring, the fo llowing options are avail able : All calls : No calls can be received.
Call functions 69 Video Calls • Outgoing Image : Y ou can set whether the device shows the camera view to the person with whom y ou are speaking, or select an image to be shown instead of the camera view . • Call Fail Optio n : Select how to retry a video call when it fails.
70 5 Messaging and the Internet Messaging In Messaging, you can create, send, receiv e, view , edit, and organise: • T ext messages (SMS) • Multi media mess age (MMS) • E-mail messages To open Messaging: On the Home screen, press the Start soft key and select Messaging .

Messaging and the Interne t 73 Viewing SMS or MMS messages When you receiv e a new SMS or MMS messa ge, the New Message icon ( ) displays on the top line of the screen. Y ou can also view messages you re ceived, sent, composed but not sent by accessing the message folders.

Messaging and the Interne t 78 Connecting directly to an e-mail server Y ou can send and receive e-mail messages by connecting to an e-mail server . Y ou’ll need to set up a remote connection to a networ k or an ISP , and a connection to your e-mail serve r .
Messaging and the Interne t 79 Creating an e-mail acc ount Y ou need to create a new account to be used for r etrieving and sending e-mail me ssages. To make a new account: 1. From the Messaging screen, select New Email Account . 2. Enter your display e-mail address and press the Next soft key .

Organiser 96 Select the Picture field to add an image for the caller ID image. T o remove the adde d image, press the Menu soft key and select Remove Picture . T o assign the contact card to a category , scroll to the Categories field a nd select a category .
Organiser 97 Viewing and editing a co ntact card When you access Contacts, the contact list displays the names of your contacts alph abetica lly , along with an abbreviation for the primary contact number or e-mail address, such as the person’ s work phone number ( w ) or mobile phone number ( m ).

If necessary , change the contact name. 4. Fill in the other fields and p ress the Done soft key to save the changes.
Organiser 101 Deleting a contact card 1. On the contact list, select a contact card. 2. Press the Menu soft key and select Delete Cont act . 3. Press the Yes soft key to permanently delete the contact card. Calendar Use Calendar to schedule appointments, includ ing meetings and other events.
Organiser 102 Viewing and editing an appointment On the Calendar screen, yo u c an view and edit your appointments using the differe nt views: Agenda, W eek, or Month. By default, the calendar first appears in the ag enda view , which provides the most detailed information about your appointment.
Organiser 103 T o go to today’ s date, press the Menu soft key and select Go to Today . T o go to a certain date, press the Menu soft key and select Go to Date . Enter the date and press the Done soft key . 3. Select the appointment you w ant to view.

Voice Notes In any progr am where you can w rite on the screen, y o u can also quickly capture thoughts, reminders, and phone numbers by recording a message.
