Getting Started 6 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by f irst configurin g your hardwar e, activating your serv ice, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary t o install both the ba ttery and SIM into their corresponding internal compartments.
7 Important! The plug-in S IM card infor mation an d its contac ts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place.
Getting Started 8 R emo ving and Installing the Memor y Car d Y ou can use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand available m emory space if you de sire. This secure digital card enables you to exchange images, music, and data between SD-compatible de vices.
9 Installing the Back Co ver 1. Place the batter y cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the edge of the back cover (3) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the batter y is properly ins talled before switching on the phone.
Getting Started 10 Note: Y ou must f ully charge the ba tter y before us ing your phone for the first time. A discharged batter y recharges fully in appr oximately 4 hours. Note: Long backlight settings, searching for ser vice, vibrate mode, web browser use, and other variables may reduce the batter y’ s t alk and standby times.
11 War n i n g! If your handset has a touch scre en display , please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger . Using e xcessive force or a metallic object when pressing on the touch screen may damage the te mpered glass surface and void the warranty .

Getting Started 14 Creating a Samsung Account An active Samsung account is requ ired to begin accessing applications such as ChatON and Samsung Hub. If you did not create a Samsung account when you f irst set up your phone, follow these steps: 1. From the home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts ➔ Add account .

Google Quick Search bar : a shortcut to Google Search that allows yo u to search for items on the int ernet. 11. 27 Local : Local is an applicati on that uses Google Maps and your location to help yo u find Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Attractions , and more. Y ou can also add your o wn locations.

Press to activ ate the main Home screen. 2. T ouch and hold the primary shortcut you want to replace, then drag it to an empty space on any Home screen.

Notifica tion Bar The Notification Bar includes a pull-down list to show information about processes that are running , recent notifications, and alerts.
47 Clearing Notifications T o clear all notifications from the Notifica tion panel: 1. From the Home screen, touch and hold the Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then dra g down vertically . 2. Ta p t h e Clear button. The notifications are clear ed and the panel closes.

Call Functions 50 Section 3: Call Func tions This section describes ho w to make or ans wer a call. It also includes the features and f unctionality associated with making or answering a call. For mor e information, refer t o “Call Settings” on page 133.

Call Functions 52 Making an Emer gency Call with a SIM car d The Emergency calling mode makes redialing an emergency number a 1-tap process. Befo re you can resume normal calling operations, you should fir st exit this mode. 1. From the Home screen, tap .
53 Ans wering a Call When a call is received the phone rings and displays the caller’ s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. At the incoming call screen: • T ouch and drag in any direction to answer the call. • T ouch and drag in any direction to reject the call and send it to your voicem ail.
Call Functions 54 Dialing Options From the Home sc reen and Application menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and initiate a call by ta pping ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and the Contacts screen, the following tabs are l ocated a t the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current num ber entered using the on -screen keypad.

57 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a numbe r of control functions that you can use dur ing a call. Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, to adjust the volume, use the Vol u m e keys on the left side of the phone. Press the Up volume key to increase the volume level and press the Down volume key to decrease the volume level.
Call Functions 58 Personalizing the Call Sound S etting During a call it may be nece ssary to adjust t he sound of the incoming call by selecting an audio equalizer se tting for the current call. 1. From the call screen, tap . 2. Confirm the option is enabled .

Entering T ext 62 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes ho w to select the desi red text input method when entering charac ters into your phone. This section also describes the predic tive text entr y system tha t reduces the amount of key strokes associa ted with entering text.
63 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypa d layout keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When i n Abc mode, the Sym button will appear . When in Sym mode, the Abc / ABC / abc button will appear .
Entering T ext 64 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbol s, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. Ta p at the bottom of the screen. The followi ng screen displays: 3. T ap the desired number , symbol, or emoticon characters.
