7 With the phone closed Ge t s t a r te d First steps t o operating your phone SIM card infor mation When you subscribe to a cellular network, you receive a plug-in SIM (Subscr iber Identity Module) card loaded with your subscription details, suc h as your PIN, and available optional services.
Ge t started 8 Insert the battery . Reattach the battery cover . Plug the travel adapter into the phone. Plug the adapter int o a standard AC power outlet. When the phone is completely charged, unplug th e adapter from the pow er outlet and from the phone.
Get started 9 Removing the battery cover Power on or off Offline mode Y o u can switch the phone to Offline mode, in which the phone functions requiring network connection are deactivated. This mode is helpful when you want to use your phone in a place where you are not allowed to use mobile devices, such as in an airplane or at a hospita l.

Step outside the phone 27 • Do not remo ve a card from the phone or turn off the phone while data is being accessed or tr ansferred. This could result in loss of data and/or damage to the card or phone. • Do not touch card terminals with your fingers or metal objects.
28 Enter text ABC, T9, Number, and Symbol m odes Y ou can enter text in some features, such as Messages, Phonebook, or Calendar , using ABC mode, T9 mode, Number mode, and Symbol mode. Changing the text input mod e • Press an d hold [ ] to switch betw een T9 mode ( ) and ABC mode ( ).
Ente r te xt 29 Using T9 mode T9 is a predictive text input mode that allows you to enter any character using single keystrokes. Entering a word in T9 mode 1. Press [ 2 ] to [ 9 ] to start en tering a word . Press each k ey once for each letter . T9 predicts the word you are typing, and it may change with ea ch key that you press.

Call functions 34 Using In-call options During a call, press < Options > to access the following options: • Speaker on / Normal : turn on the Speakerphone feature or switch back to Normal mode. • Switch to headset / Switch to phone : switch the ca ll to a Bl uetooth headse t or hands-free car kit or back to the p hone.
35 • Transfer : transfe r the currently active call to a caller on hold. The two callers can talk to each other , but you a re disconnected from the call. • Join : set up a multi-party call by adding a caller on hold to a currently active call. Y ou can include up to 5 people on a multi-party call.

The phone searches for the contact names s tarting with the letters labelled on any of the keys you pressed. 1. In Idle mode, press the number keys containing the letters you want.

From th e wireless web, you ca n access up-to-date inform ation and a wide variety of med ia content, such as games, wallpapers, ringtones, and music files.

Setting alarms to sound when the phone is of f From the Alarm screen, select Auto power → On . If the phone is off when it is time fo r the alarm to sound, the phone switches on a nd sounds the alarm.

When you select Automatic , the phone switches the encoding type from GSM-alphabet to Unicode if you enter a Unicode character . Using Unicode encoding will reduce the maximum number of characters in a message to about half.

Prompt first : your phone will read the MCC (Mobile Country Code) from the network and autom atically upd ate the c urrent time for the country that you are in when you travel abroad.
