Your p hone 14 Icons Icon Des cripti on Shows the receiv ed signal strength. The more ba rs, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. When your SIM card s upport s ALS (Alter nate Line Service), this icon may appear with the number 1, 2, or both.

Your p hone 16 Back li ght A backligh t illuminates the display and the key p ad. When y ou press any ke y , the backlight turns o n and remains on fo r a gi ven peri od of time, dependi ng on the Backlight option settings. The display turns off after one minute t o conserve your battery power .
17 Getting started Installing the SIM card When y ou subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a pl ug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services av ailable, and so on.
Getting starte d 18 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket, as shown, so that it locks the card into position. Make sure the gold contacts of the card face into the phon e. Note : When y ou need to remov e the SIM card , slide it out, as shown, and remo ve it from the socket.

These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus, accessed vi a the tw o soft k e ys m arked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

Call functions 27 Making a call from Phon e book Y ou can store t he phone numbers that you use regularly in the SI M card or the phon e’ s memory , wh ich a re c ollec tive ly ca lled P hone boo k. S imp ly select a name to recall the associated numbe r .
Call functions 28 Answering a call When somebod y calls you, the phone rings and shows the incoming call image. When the caller can be iden tified, the caller’s ph one number , or name if stored in Phonebook, displays. 1. Press th e key or the Accept soft key to answer the incoming call.

31 Options during a cal l Y our phone prov ides a number of contro l functions that you can use during a call . Putting a call on hold Y ou can place a cal l on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if your netw ork supports this service.
Options du ring a call 32 The current call is placed on hold and the call on hold is reactivated so that you can conti nue conv ersing with the other person. When y ou want to finish, end each call normally by pressing the key . Using the menu functions During a call, you can access the main menu functions.

Options du ring a call 34 Sending DTMF tones Y ou can send the DTM F (Dual T one Multi-Frequency) tones of the number on the d isplay during a call. This option is helpful for entering a password or account number when you call an automated system, like a b anking service.

38 Entering text When using yo ur phone, you will often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook , crea ti ng a per sonal g reeti ng, or scheduling events on y our calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad .
Entering text 39 Changing the text input mode When you are in a fi eld that allows characters to be entered , you will notice the tex t input mod e indicator on th e display . Example : W riting a text message To select the Press the right so ft key until T9 mode dis plays.
Entering text 40 Using T9 mode The T 9 predictiv e text input m ode a llows yo u to ke y in any character using single keystrokes. This text input mode is based o n a built-in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mo de: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start enteri ng a word by pressing keys 2 to 9 .

45 Using t he menus The phone offers a range of functions that allows you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrolling with the navigation keys or by using shortcuts.

52 Phoneboo k Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding nam es in the memory of yo ur SIM card and phone’ s memories. They are phy sically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook .

64 Text messages Short Message Serv ice (SMS) allows you to send and receive short tex t messages to and from o ther GSM mob ile pho nes. In ad dition, your ph one supports the Enhanced Messag ing Service (EMS), which enables you to make messa g es that include simple pictures, melodies, and anim ation.
Text messages 65 Send : allows you to resend the message . For further details about how to send a messag e, see page 67. Text reply : allows yo u to reply to the send er by sending a text message.

Text messages 73 Broadcast (Menu 1. 9) This network service allows you to receiv e text messages on v arious topics, such as the weather or traffic. Cell Broadcast (C B) messages display as soon as they are rece ived, provided that: • th e ph on e is in idl e mo de .

75 Mult imedia messages Multimedia Messag e Service (MMS) is a messag ing service very sim ilar to Short Messag e Service (SMS). It provides automatic and immediate delivery o f personal m ulti med ia messages from phone to phone or fr om phone to e-mail.
Multimedi a messages 76 2. T o scroll through the message contents, p ress the Up or D own k ey . While view ing the m essage, press the Options soft key to use the followin g options: Retr ieve : retrieves the message from the MMS server . Delet e : deletes the message .

Multimedi a messages 78 Outbox (Menu 2. 2) When y ou access this menu, the list of the multimedia messages you ha ve sent or saved displays. The icons on the left tell you the status of the messages.

87 Call rec ords In this menu, you can view: • calls you have missed , received, or dialled. • the length of your calls. • the cost of your calls. Notes : • Y ou can access phone numbers that are in the three types of call re cords by p ressing t he key in idl e mode .
Call records 88 Receive d calls (Men u 3.2) This menu lets you view the num bers of the calls you rec eived. The numbe r and n ame, if availabl e, di spla y toget her with the da te and time w hen the call wa s received . By pressing the Opti ons soft key , you can: • edit the nu mber , i f avail able, and dia l it or save it in Ph onebook.

Sound set tings 94 MMS to ne (Menu 4 . 5.3) This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new mu ltimedia message has been receiv ed. The fo llowi ng opt ions are avail able : Off : the phone neither rings nor vib rates. Vibrat ion : the pho ne vibr ates.
Sound set tings 95 Extra tones (Men u 4. 8) Y ou can customise additi onal tones used fo r the phon e. The fo llowi ng opt ions are avail able : Error tone : sets whether or not the p hone informs you when you make a mi stake.
96 Phone settings Many different features of your phone can be customised to suit your preferences. All of these features are accessed in the Phone se ttings menu. Display settings (Menu 5.1) In this menu, you can change v arious settings for the display or backlight.

Phone settings 99 This f unction is a memory aid , which you can use to check your own phone nu mbers if you n eed to do so. Any changes mad e here do not in any wa y affect the actual subscriber numbers on y our SIM card. Language (Men u 5.4) Y ou can select a display language.

Enable : you must ente r the PIN each time the phone is switched on. Change PI N (Menu 5. 5.2) This feature allows you to change your current PIN to a new one, p rovided that the PIN check feature is enabled.
