5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes the first steps to operating you r phone. SIM Card Infor mation When you subscribe for 3G cellul ar network services, you receive a plug-in SIM (Subscriber Identity Modu le) card loaded with your subscription details, such as yo ur PIN, and available optional services.
Getting Started 6 3. Lift the battery up (1) and a way (2) from the phone, as shown. Inst alli ng and Remo ving th e SIM Ca rd Import ant!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card, and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
7 Installing the microSD™ Card T o add additional memor y to your phone, you can insert a microSD card into the me mory card slot, locat ed to the left of the SIM card, inside t he phone. Use the following inst ructions and illus trations for proper insertion and removal.
Getting Started 8 Replacing the Ba tter y 1. T o reinstall the ba ttery , with the battery cove r open, align the battery tabs with the slot s a t the bottom of the phone (1). 2. Press the batter y down until it clicks into place (2). Make sure the batter y is properly installed and not obstructing the SIM card before replacing the cover .
9 Charging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adapter to charge the batter y , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 10 If the battery level be comes to o low , the phone automatic ally turns off. Recharge your battery . T ur ning the Phone On or Off 1. Open the phon e. 2. Press and hold the key until the phone power -on screen displays. Note: Do not turn on the phone when mobile phone use is prohibited.
11 4. Highlight Voice mail and press the Select soft key or the key . 5. Press the Edit soft key . 6. T o edit the Voic e Server Name, highlight Name an d press to delete the current name and then use your keypad to ente r a replacement nam e.
Understanding Y our Phon e 12 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key f eatures of you r phone. It also displays the screen and the icon s that are displayed when the phone is in use. F eatures of Y our Phone Y our phone is lightweight, ea sy-to-use and offers many significant features.
13 Key s The following list c orrelates to the ope n and front view illustrations. 1. Main Display : This screen displays useful information needed to oper ate your phone. 2. Navigation keys : This key allows you to scroll through phone menu options and provid es a shortcut to phone functions from standby mode.
Understanding Y our Phon e 14 11. Power On/Off/Me nu Exit key : Ends a call. Press and hold this key for a few seconds to po wer your phone On or Off. While in the m ain menu, it returns the phone to standby mode and cancels your i nput. When you receive an incoming call, press to reject call.
15 navigate through the di fferent menu options. When the phone is cl osed, pr ess and hold these keys to toggle the d isplay on or off. This key is also used when the Music Player is active. • If you a re playi ng music an d the backl ight goes out, pres s this key to re-displ ay the music pla yer screen .
Understanding Y our Phon e 16 Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, th e stronger the signal. Displays the level of your bat t ery. The more bars you see, the more power yo u have remaining. Displays when the phone is accessing services in a GPRS network.
17 Note: The default phone profile is Normal. The profile is editable and the displayed icons may vary according to the setting. Displays when Bluetooth wire less technology is active. When transferring data, this icon blinks red and blue. Displays when Bluetooth wi reless technology is connecting with a device.
Understanding Y our Phon e 18 My Shor tcuts Y our phone offers a set of functi ons that can be customized for your ease and specific needs. Thes e functions are a rranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed usi ng the two soft keys. Each menu and sub-menu allow s you to vi ew and alter the s ettings of a particular function.
19 • T o exit the menu structure without changing the settings, press the key . Command K eys Functions for the soft keys are defined by what displays above each in the display .
Understanding Y our Phon e 20 End Key Use the End key to turn on/off your phone, discon nect calls, and re turn to the standby mode. • Press and hold the End key to turn on/off your phone. • Briefly press once to disconnect a ca ll. • Press to return to standby mode from any menu.
21 Section 3: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu optio ns are controlled by the SIM provided by your servic e provider .
Menu Navigation 22 Using Shortcut Numbers Numbered me nu items, su ch as menus , sub-menus, and options can be quickly accessed by us ing their shortcut numbers. In Menu mode, Main Menus can be accessed by pressing the number keys (1 to 0, * and #) co rrespondin g to their location on the screen.
23 Section 4: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and function ality assoc iated with making or answering a call. Making a Call When the Idle screen displays, enter the a rea code and phone number , and press the key.
Call Functions 24 Manu al Paus e Dialing When you call automated system s, you are often required to enter a password or ac count number . Instead of manually entering the numbers each time, you can dial the numbers along with special c haracters called pauses.
25 Answ ering a Call When you receive a call the phone rings a nd displays the call er’ s phone number , or name if st ored in the Address Book . 1. From the Idle Screen press the key .
Call Functions 26 3. The recipient rece ives a Video Sha re pop-up to either Accept or Reject th e Video Share call. They should press Accept to continue or Re ject to reject the invitatio n. 4. If the Auto Reco rd option is On , REC displays on the upper right of the screen.
27 • Save to Address Book : allows you to save the number to your Address Book on either the phone or SIM card. • Send Message : allows you to send a T ext or Multimedia mess age to the caller . • Delete : allows you to delete the Selected ca ll or All calls.
Call Functions 28 3. At the Create Message screen, use the Alphanumeric keys to type in a message or press the Insert soft key to add items such as Picture, Video, Soun d, T empla tes, Emoticon, T ake Picture, Record Video, Re cord Sound, Favorites URL, or Contact Info.
29 – hh:mm:ss : shows the duration of the call in hours, m inutes, and seconds. Call Bac k T o ca ll back a missed ca ll number: 1. Press the Vie w soft key. The most recently missed call displays. 2. Scroll through the li st of missed calls. 3. Highlight the n umber to call back and press the Options soft key .
Call Functions 30 Press Options soft key , highlight N ew Call and press the Select soft key or the k ey . Once connected, both calls display on the screen. Note: The caller currently on hold displays as greyed text on the screen. When you are enga ged in an active ca ll and also have a call on hold, you may switch between th e two calls.
31 – Calendar : T emporarily accesses your calenda r while maintaining the active call. – Notes : T emporarily accesses your note s while maintaining the active call. – Whisper Mode On/Off : Increases the mi crophone sensitivity level. Used in quiet enviro nments such as theaters, meetings, etc.
Call Functions 32 Example: Y ou wish to say something to person in the room, but do not want the person on the phone to hear you. T o switch the m icrophone off temporaril y with a single a ctive call: 1. Press the Mute soft key . 2. Press the Unmute soft key to swit ch the microphone back on.
33 1. Press the Options soft key . Highlight End and press the Right Navigation key . 2. Highlight Active Call , Held Call , or All Calls and press the Select soft key or the key . 3-Way Ca lling (Multi-Pa r ty Calling) The 3-Way or Multi-Party feature allows you t o answer a serie s of incoming calls and place them on hold.
Entering T ext 34 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt input mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entry syst em to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
35 Changi ng the T ext Inpu t Mode When you are in a field that hol ds characters (such as in a text message), the text input mode indicator displ ays. Use the following steps to change the text input mo de: 1. T o change the text input mode, press the key .
Entering T ext 36 The word that you are typing displays on the screen. The word changes as you press additional keys. 3. Enter the whole word b efore editing or d eleting the keystrokes . 4. When the word displays correctly , go to step 5. If the word doesn ’t display correctly , press the key to display alternative word choices.
37 Note: The cursor moves to the right when you press a different key . When entering the same letter twice or a different letter on the same key, just wait for a few seconds for the cursor to move to the right automatically , and then select the next letter .
Push to T alk 38 Section 6: Push to T alk This section describe s the Push to T alk (PTT) fea ture which allows you to contact your fa mily , friends, and co-workers instantly . Initializing Push to T alk Ser vice 1. From t he Idle screen, pres s the PTT key .
39 PTT Contact A v aila bility This section covers the icons which appear next to individuals and groups in your PTT Contacts list indicating thei r availability . Individuals Unavailable : This becomes your avai labi lity state if you power-off your phon e, turn PTT off, or if the system detects you have move d out of coverage.
Push to T alk 40 Groups Add Contact Note: The maximum numb er of contacts is 99. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ Add Contact and press Select soft key or the k ey . 2. Enter the name and number of your new contact and press the OK soft key or the key .
41 Viewing Push T o T alk Contacts 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ PTT Contacts . The PTT Contact list displays. 2. Press the Options soft key to display the P TT Contacts Opti.
Push to T alk 42 • Add Group : this op tion let s you na me and cre ate a new PTT Grou p. •E d i t : this opti on allows you t o edit th e contact you selected.
43 3. Press and hold the PTT key and begin speaking. Connecting to Dyna mic Group displays. 4. Release the key when you finish speaking . Deleting PTT Contacts 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ PTT Contacts and press the Select soft key or the key .
Push to T alk 44 5. The Sending Create Group Request popup displays and group invitations are sent to each contact for their acceptance. The Invitation In Progress icon displays next to the group until at leas t one member accepts.
45 6. Press the Ye s soft key to conf irm deletion or press the No soft key to return to PTT Contacts list. 7. Press the key to return to Idle mode. Deleting a Group Note: Only the creator or owner of the group can delete the a group. Members can only choose to leave a group.
Push to T alk 46 Receiving a PTT Call For the best experience your ringer should be set to the highest volume. 1. If your status is Av ailable you hear a PTT Call tone and the caller's voic e. 2. If your status is Vibrate All your phone vibrates and you must pr ess Accept or Reject soft key .
47 • My A vaila bility : this optio n allow s you to ch ange you r Av ailability status. Use the Up or Down Navi gation key, to highlight Do Not Disturb or Ava ilable and press the Sel ect soft ke y or the key .
Push to T alk 48 Call Waiting While on a PTT call yo u are notified of incomi ng PTT calls. Accepting the incoming PTT call suspends the fir st call. Re jecting the incoming PTT call t erminates it. While on a PT T call you are notified of inc oming cellul ar calls.
49 Section 7: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your contac ts by storing their name and number in your Addr ess Book. Y ou ca n sort Address Book entries by na me, entry , or group . Y ou can also synchronize your phone Address Book with A T&T Address Book, the ne twork backup service.
Understanding Y our Address Book 50 • A T&T Addr ess Boo k : allows yo u to enab le synchron ization on any change made to your contac ts between you r phone Addre ss Book and the A T&T Address Bo ok, the netw ork backup service. •O w n N u m b e r : to display your current phone number (page 53).
51 Note: Ringtones assigned to a contact will not be synchronized to A T&T Address Book. Adding More Fields to a Number While in the process of creating a new en try or editing a n existing contact, you can add additional fields to the entry’ s list of information.
Understanding Y our Address Book 52 Adding Pause s to Contact Numb ers When you call automated system s, you are often required to enter a password or ac count number . Instead of manually entering the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with speci al characters called pauses.
53 3. Press the key or Options ➔ Call to call the contact. Address Book Entr y Options T o access the Address Book options, follow these steps: 1. Press Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ Contacts and select an entry from t he list and press the ke y .
Understanding Y our Address Book 54 FDN Mode FDN (Fix ed Dialing Number) mode, if su pported by your SIM card, restricts your outgoi ng calls to a limited set of phone numbers. When this feature i s enabled, you can make call s only to phone numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card.
55 4. Press Option s ➔ Group Settings and press the key . 5. Highlight the Picture field and press the key . 6. Select an ima ge and press Options ➔ Select or the key . The selected image display s in the Picture field and displays the na me of the image to the right.
Understanding Y our Address Book 56 Adding Speed Dial Entries 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ Speed Dial List and press the key . 2. Highlight a position (2-9) on the keypad in which to assign the speed dial number and press Options ➔ Assign .
57 5. Press to return to Idle mode. Copying an En tr y to the Phone 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ SIM Management ➔ Copy Contacts from SIM and press the key . The phone displays a list of your current contacts stored on the SIM card.

Note: Entries on the FDN Address Book must be d eleted from within the FDN Address Book Checking t he Add ress Book’s Us ed Space Y ou can c heck how ma ny names a nd numbers are stored in the Address book, in both SIM card and the phone memory .
59 Section 8: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diffe rent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.
Messaging 60 •V i d e o : allows you to attach a vi deo clip to your message . • Sound : allows you to attach an au dio clip to you r message. • T emplates : allo ws you to atta ch a tem plate to your mess age. •E m o t i c o n : allows yo u to add an em oticon (creat ed by phone characters) to your me ssage.
61 9. Y ou can add additional recipien ts from your Address Book by selecting one of the Empty fields and entering another number . – or – Select another Empt y field and press Options ➔ Add Recipients and choose between Recent Contacts , Contacts , or Group and press the key .

Attaching Business Card to a Message T o attach your Business Card to an outgoing message, follow these steps: 1. Create a co ntract entr y (the informa tion stored in the e ntry is used as a business card).
Messaging 64 Retrieving a T ext Messa ge from t he Inb o x When a new T ext message comes in, the display (in Id le mode) shows a new Message notifica ti on icon ( ) along with t he available se nder’ s information. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Inbox and press the Select soft key or the key .
65 Using Message Options Message options at the Inbox level differ according to what action was taken with the m essage. While viewing t he list of messages in the Inbox, press the Options soft key to access the following message options: Options for SMS Messages • Reply : allows you to reply to the message via T ext message.
Messaging 66 Outbo x This message box contai ns messages that were sent or will be sent. When you enter this menu, t he list of message s in the Outbox displays with the re cipients’ phone numbe rs or names, if available i n your Address Book. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Outbox and press the Select soft key or th e key .
67 7. Press the Sign In soft key o r the key. Signing into Y our Mobile Email T ake your e-mail with you! With Mobile Emai l you can check your Y ahoo! ® Mail, AOL ® , AIM, Windo ws Live Hotmail, A T&T Mail, Gmail, and other p rovid ers quickly and easily .

69 – Get Deli very Report : when this option is enabled, the netwo rk informs you whether or no t your message was delivered. – Get Read Report : when this option is e nabled, your phone s ends a request for a reply along with your mes sage to the recipient.
Messaging 70 V o ice M a il The following option i s available: • Voicem ail : you can specify the default pho ne number used for access of phone’ s remote voic email. Import ant!: Changing the Voicemail number can affect your ability to access your voicemail.
71 Delete by F older This option allows you to delete some or all of your messages. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Delete by Folder and pres s the Select soft key or the key . 2. Select the folder you wa nt to delete the me ssages in by pressing the key to ma ke a check mark.
AppCenter 72 Section 9: AppCenter The AppCenter allows you to shop for Ringtones, Games, Color Graphics, and Answer T o nes using the built-in browser . Y ou can also access the MEdi a Net Home site. 䊳 Press Menu ➔ AppCenter to launch the A ppCenter a pplicat ion.
73 MEdia Net Home The MEdia Net menu option allows you to quickly access your MEdia Net homepage using the built -in browser . This page gives you quick access to information such as local weather , sports scores, horoscope information and quick links to the previously mentioned shopping sites .
My Stuff 74 Section 10: My Stuff This section includes in formation on both on-board applications as well as applica tions that a re purchased via AppCenter . In the My Stuff menu option, you can access Applic ations, Audio, Games, Online Locker , Pictures, T ools, Video, Ot her Files, and Used Space.
75 Games The Games menu option allows yo u to play pre-loaded games on your phone and shop games usin g AppCenter . T o access the Games menu opti on, use the following steps: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ Games and press the Select soft key or the key .
My Stuff 76 Pictures Accessing the P ictures Folder 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ Pictures , and press the Sel ect soft key or the key. 2. Select a photo and press the key to view the photo. 3. Press the Back soft key or th e key to exit the m enu.
77 T ools The T ool s folder provides acce ss to and allows you to use the Camera, Voice Recogni tion, Record Audio, Alarms, use the Calendar and features, check your Recent Calls, create T asks, crea.

79 White Balance : all ows you to set the white balance for the camera. Choose Auto , Daylight , Incandescent , Fluoresce nt , or Cloudy . Night Shot Mode : all ows you to set the came ra to Night Shot Mode for taking photographs in low light conditions.
My Stuff 80 Camera Options after Taking a Photo After you have taken a photo, you can us e various op tions by pressing the Options soft key . Highlight an option and press the key . The following opti ons are availabl e: • Send : allows you to attach the photo to a message, se nd it via Mobile Share, or send it via Bluetooth.
81 • Set as : allows you to set the photo as your wa llpaper on your Main Display , Front Display , or set the pho to as a Caller ID for a co ntact. • Delete : allows you to delete the photo you have taken. • Rename : allows you to rename the photo.
My Stuff 82 5. Press the key to be gin ca pturing video. 6. Press the Stop soft key t o stop the recording and save the video file to your Vi de o folder . 7. Save the video and press th e key to play it back. 8. Press the key to return to the camcorde r preview.
83 Time r : al lows you to se t a time delay before the camcorder takes the v ideo clip. • Off • 3 sec • 5 sec • 10 sec Effects : allows you to choose a custom colo r tone for your video cl ip. Choose from t he following: • No Effects : automatica lly adjust the video for the best quality available .
My Stuff 84 Camcorder Option s after a Vide o is T ak en After you have shot a video, press the Options soft key to select various options. Highlight an op tion and press the key . The following optio ns are available: • Send via : allows you to attach the video to a Multimedi a Message, send it to Mobile Share, or send it to a Bluetooth de vice.
85 • Portrait/Landscape Mode : allows you to rotate the video to P ortrait/ Landscape format. • Properties : allows you to view the prope rties for this video file. Once the video comple tes playing, or you select the Stop option, the following o ptions are availa ble: • Play : allows you to replay the video c lip.
My Stuff 86 following message di splays “Sorry, no match found, ” and voice recognition turns off. Y ou must end your current Voic e Commands call before you can make another call using V oice Com mands. Y ou can only orig inate the first call in a 3-way call using Voice Commands.
87 • Play : allows you to play the voice clip. • Record : allows you to save th e curren t voice clip and begin an other session. • My Vo ice Clips : allows you to view your audio clips.
My Stuff 88 Alarms This feature allows you to: • set the alarm to ring at a specific time. • set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm even if the phone is switched off. T o set the alarm: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ T ools and pres s the Select soft key or the key .
89 5. Press the key to save the changes. Note: T o stop the alarm when it rings, press an y key or press the volume keys. Press OK soft key to turn off the alarm. Setting Auto Pow er-up Alar ms Y ou can set the phone to ring the alarm when the time for an alarm comes, even if the phone is switched of f.

O nce s electe d, th e follow ing se ttings are enabled. – Every : allows you to set the num ber of times the e ntry is to repeat in the selected time frame.

93 • Settings : this opti on allows you to configur e the Calendar’s Starting Day (selec t either Sunday or M onday) and Def ault View Mode (select Month, Week, or Day view).
My Stuff 94 Notes This option all ows you to create notes to add to your events. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ T ools and pres s the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight Notes and pres s the Select soft key or the key . 3. A blank screen d isplays.
