7 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li -ion batter y . Use the travel adapto r to charge the battery , and use only Sam sung approved batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone fo r the first time.
Getting Started 8 Installing the microSD Card 4. Remove the adapter from the phone by gently pulling the connector out. Note: Y ou must unplug the ada ptor before removi ng the batter y from the phone during charging to av oid damage.
9 Low Batter y I ndicator When the battery is weak an d only a few minutes of ta lk time remain, a warni ng tone sounds, the “Battery Low” messa ge repeats at regular intervals on th e display , and the empty ba ttery icon blinks. The backlight turns off to conser ve the remaining battery power .

It t urns off when no k eys ar e pressed within a given period of time, and/or dims the light, depend ing on the settings in the Backlight Time menu.

Understandi ng Y our Phone 20 Command Keys • T o move back to the pr evious functio n or option on a list, press th e Up Navigation key or the key on the left side of the phone. • T o move back up one level in the menu structure, press the Back soft key.
21 Clear K ey The CLR key is used to erase or clear num bers, text, or symbols from the display . Y o u can also use to return to a previous menu or to return to standby mode from any menu. • If you enter an incorrect character , brie fly press to backspa ce (and delete) the character .

Call Functions 24 Making a Call • T o clear another digi t in the number , press the Left or Right Navigation key until the cursor is immediately to the right of the digit to be cleared. Press the key . • T o enter a missin g digit press the Left or Right Navigation key until the cursor is in position and enter the digit.
25 Answ ering a Call When a call is receiv ed the phone rings and displays the caller’ s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. From the Idle Screen press the key . Call Functions 28 Call Time 4. Select the lo cation of your Ad dress Book: • Phone : This option allows you to save the missed number to your Address Book stored on the phone. •S I M : This option allows you to save the missed number to your Address Book stored on the optional SIM card.

Call Functions 30 Silent Mode Silent Mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone from making noise, in a theater for exam ple. In Idle mode, press an d hold the key until the phone vibra tes, the “Silent Profil e on” message appears on screen.
31 T o make a call while you have a call in progress: 1. Place the curre nt call on hold using the previous p rocedures. 2. Enter the new phone number that you wish to di al or look it up i n the Address Book. 3. Press the key to dial the second ca ll.

Understanding Y our Address Book 54 Address Book Entry Options Finding an Addr ess Book Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names onto your SIM card and phone’ s onboard memory. They are phys ica lly separate but are used as a single entity , called th e Address Book.
