Getting S tarted 3 Getting Started Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular ne twork, a plug-in SI M card is provided loaded with your s ubscription details , such as your PIN and other optiona l services. Removing the Battery Note: Y ou must unplug the travel adapter before re moving the battery from the phone to avoid damage.
Getting S tarted 4 Installing the SIM Ca rd Important! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
Getting S tarted 5 2. Press the battery down until it is seated in the b attery chamber. Make sure that the battery i s properly installed before switching on the phone . 3. With the battery in p osition in the phon e, slide the cover back on the handset and pus h down until th e cover tab locks it in to position.
Getting S tarted 6 1. Plug the connec tor of the travel adapte r into the jack on the side of the phone. 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC wall out let. If the phone is o ff, the internal display in dicates that the phon e is charging. If the p hone is on, one of the bars in th e battery icon flash es to indicate char ging.
Getting S tarted 7 Switching the Phone On or Off 1. Open the phone. 2. Press and hold the key until the phon e switches on. 3. If the phone pr ompts you to enter th e phone password, ente r the password and pre ss the key . For furthe r details, see “Lo ck Phone” on page 124.
Y our Phone 8 Y our Phone Features of Y our Phone Y our phone is lightweight, easy-to-use and offers many valuabl e features. The following list o utlines a few of th e features included in y our phone.

Power Interface Connector/Headset Jack : The power interface connector is use d to plug in the char ging accessories and the headset cord.

Y our Phone 12 Display Display Layout The internal display ha s three ma in areas: Icons Shows the received sig nal strength. The more bars, the st ronger the signal. Appears when a n ew text message h as been received. Appears when a n ew voice mail has been received.
Y our Phone 13 Appears when you set a n alarm to ring at a sp ecified time. For details, see “Alarm” on page 83. Appears when there is no network covera ge available. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are co nnected to the Ed ge network.
Y our Phone 14 Selecting Functions and Options Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys va ry depending on the function yo u are currently using. The labels on the bottom line of the display jus t above each key indicate their current rol e. Some functions of the Left soft key are as follows.
Y our Phone 15 ♦ If you enter an incorrec t character , press to backspace (and delete) the ch aracter . ♦ T o e rase an entire se ntence, press and h old . ♦ T o back up one menu leve l, briefly press . End Key The End key is used to turn on/o ff your phone, disconnect c alls, and return to the standby mod e.
Y our Phone 16 Camera The embedded cam era on the front of you r phone is activate d by pressing the Camera key on the righ t side of the phone . The internal display shows the image capture d by the camera lens . Press the Camera key a sec ond time to record a photog raph.
Call Functions 17 Call Functions Making a Call From the Idle screen, e nter the phone nu mber (with area code , if necessary), then pres s the key . Note: When you activate the Auto Redial option, the phone automatical ly redials up to ten times when the call is not answered or someone is already on the phone.
Call Functions 18 Ending a Call When you want to end your call, briefl y press the key . Redialing a R ece nt Number All incoming, outgoin g and missed calls are liste d in the Call History Menu. If the number or caller is listed i n your Address Book, the name associated with the number also displays.
Call Functions 19 For further details, see “Contacts” on page 99. Adjusting the V olume T o adjust the earpiece volume during a cal l, use the Volume keys on the left side of the pho ne. Press the key to increa se the volu me level and the key to decrease the level.
Call Functions 20 Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Con tact list or menu features. After ending the call, the phone returns to the function screen you were using. Missed Calls Whenever you miss one or more calls, the n umber of calls miss ed is displayed on the Front LCD and on the Idle screen.
Call Functions 21 Note: Y ou can access the Missed Call feature at any time by selecting the Misse d Calls menu. For further details, see “Missed Calls” on page 64. Silent Mode SIlent mode is conv enient when you want to stop the phone from m aking any sounds, such as when you are i n a theater .
Options During a Call 22 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of featu res that you can use during a ca ll. In Call Options During a call , press th e Options soft key to access t he following: ♦ Hold: Places the c all on hold . ♦ New Call: Places the current c all on hold and al lows you to enter and dial another numbe r .
Options During a Call 23 T o mak e a call while you ha ve a call in pro gress: 1. Place the call on hold using the prev ious procedure, and ente r the phone number that you wish to d ial or look it up in t he Contact List. 2. Press the key to di al the second call .
Options During a Call 24 allows you to press keys to perform pho ne functions without h earing annoying key to nes. Note: T o communicate with answering machines or computerized telephone systems, the S end Keys option must be selected.
Options During a Call 25 4. Begin entering the letters of the na me. As you type, Contact List ent ries are listed, starting with the first entry matc hing your input. T o select a different entry than the on e that is highligh ted, press the Up or Down N avigati on key until the entry you want i s highli ghted.
Access Codes 26 Access Codes There are severa l access codes used by your phone a nd its SIM card. These codes hel p you protect the phone against una uthorized use. When requested for a ny of the codes listed below , en ter the appropriate code (displayed as asterisks) and pre ss the Select soft key .
Access Codes 27 If you enter an inc orrect PIN three times i n succession, the c ode is disabled and cannot be use d until you re-enable it by entering the PUK (see below). PUK The 8-digit PUK (PIN Unblocki ng Key) is required to c hange a disabled PIN.
Access Codes 28 T o change the PIN2, see page 127 ( Menu 9.8.9 ). PUK2 The 8-digit PUK2 (PIN Unblocking Key 2), supplied wi th some SIM cards, is required to change a disabled PIN2. If you lose the code, contac t your service provi der . T o re-e nable your PIN2: 1.
Entering T ext 29 Entering T ext This section expla ins the various text input modes a vailable for entering characters into your phone. It also desc ribes how to use th e T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the nu mber of key strokes required for enteri ng text.
Entering T ext 30 Changing the T ext Input Mode When you are in a fi eld that allows charac ters to be entered, you will see the text input mod e indicator nea r the top right corner of the display.
Entering T ext 31 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive te xt input mode b ased on a built-in d ictionary that al lows you to key in cha racters using a s ingle keystroke. Y our phone s elects the most likely word base d on your keystroke combinations. T o ente r a word in T9 mode: 1.

Internet 45 Internet This menu ( Menu 1 ) allows you to vie w Internet sites, configure your Internet browser or clear your cache. Home This menu ( Menu 1.1 ) takes you to a n online homepage provided by your service provider. Selecting this menu connects the phone to the network and loads the home page of the Wireless Web service provider.
Internet 46 Accessing an Internet Site There are several ways to access an Internet site: ♦ Select a link on th e screen ♦ Using a bookmark item in the Favo rites folder; use t he Bookmarks optio n on the brows er menu list or Fa vo rites menu.
Internet 47 ♦ Reload: reloads th e current page. Favorites This menu ( Menu 1.2 ) lets you create bookma rks for your favorite Internet sites to quickly and easily acces s them in the future. F avorites stor es your favorite URL addresses. Using Favorites 1.

Media 51 Media The Media menu ( Menu 2 ) is used to man age your collection of ring tunes and graphics, record audio clips and acce ss the camera. Ring T unes This menu ( Menu 2 . 1) a llows you to download ring tunes usin g the Internet browser and save th em to your phone, ch ange your ringtone and re cord your own audio files.

Media 56 ♦ Delete: allows you to delete the selected photo or all photos. ♦ Rename: allows you to rename the photo. ♦ Slide Show: displays all s aved photos in se quence on the scre en. ♦ Lock: allows you to lock the photo to prevent deletion.
Media 57 Note: Y our camera produces photos in JPEG format. Camera Opti ons Before taking a photo, press the Options soft key to access ca mera options. ♦ Shooting Mode: allows you to ei ther review a ph oto after taking it ( Ta k e and Review) or return immediately to the viewfinder to tak e another ( Ta k e and Return) .
Media 58 Y ou can adjust the follo wing options in th e Function menu: Size: allows you to set the image size . The icon for the selected image size appears on th e capture screen. Quality: allows you to select the pict ure quality setting. Choose from Super Fine, Fine or Normal.

Call History 63 Call History In this menu ( Menu 4 ), you can: ♦ view calls you m issed, received or d ialed ♦ view the length of calls made an d received Note: Y ou can access the most recent numbers in the three types of call history records by pressing the key in Idle mode.
Call History 64 call details. Th e number is displa yed along with the time and date when t he call was m ade. Missed Calls This menu ( Menu 4.2 ) lets you view a list of th e calls you received b ut did not answer . Use the navig ation key to scroll thro ugh the list and press the key to view call d etails.
Call History 65 Delete All This menu ( Menu 4.6 ) allows you to de lete all of the records in each call record type. Y ou can al so delete all of yo ur call records at one time. When a confirming mes sage displays, p ress the Ye s soft key to confirm.
Rogers Mall 66 Rogers Mall The Rogers Mall menu ( Menu 5 ) provides a convenient place to download all your ring tunes , games and graphics. Y ou can al so view Internet s ites. Search This menu ( Menu 5.1 ) item opens the browser a nd takes you to on line search functions provided by your servic e provider .
Rogers Mall 67 Graphics This menu ( Menu 5.4 ) allows you to do wnload wallpapers fro m your service provider. Follow the online instructions shown o n your display screen. Down loaded graphics are added to your ph one’s list of wallpapers. Email/Chat This menu ( Menu 5.
Messages 68 Messages Y ou can send and recei ve a range of different messa ge types from your mobile phone, in cluding: ♦ Instant Message: Ins tant Messenge r (IM) lets y ou send and receive instant message s using Windows Live and Y ahoo! communi ties.

Messages 74 Forward: allows you to sen d the message to s omeone. Delete: allows you to del ete the message. Move to My Folder: lets you move me ssages to the My Fold er storage area. Move to Phone/Move to SIM : If a message is sto red in the SIM card, this option transfers it to the phone ’s memory .
Messages 75 Extract Address : allows you to save the recip ient or sender ’s number and URL, Email address es or phone numbers f rom the message text . Lock: allows you to lo ck the message to prev ent deletion. Instant Messenger Default C ommu nity Before using instant messaging on your p hone you must crea te a default community accoun t.
Messages 76 V oice Mail This menu ( Menu 6.9 ) allo ws you to access your voice mailbox, i f your account supports this service. Note: V oice mail is a network feature.

Messages 80 Multimedia Message The following Multim edia Message sett ings are available: 1. Send Settings: ♦ Delivery Report: when this option is enabled, the network informs you whether or not your m essage has been deli vered.
Messages 81 ♦ Current Profile: allows you to select a n option for sending a text message. The defa ult profile is RogersMe dia and there is spa ce for four additional prof iles. ♦ Profile Settings: The default profile is Rog ersMedia and there is space for four a dditional profil es.
Messages 82 5. IM Profiles: lets you set the Current Profile and Profile Settings for sending and recei ving IM messages. Push Messages This setting selects wh ether or not to receive push messages. The set tings are: Never , Always an d T ext Message-C Spec ific.

Select an alarm t ype and press the Sel ect soft key or the key . 5. If the Alarm status is Off , highlig ht Alarm and press the Right navigation key to set it to On .
