Your Phone 9 Display The display has three areas: Enter special characters and perform various functions. (on the side of the phone) During a call: Adjusts earpiece volume. Idle mode: Adjusts keypad tone volume. Menu mode: Scrolls through menus and Phonebook.

12 Your Phone Backlight The backlight illuminates the display and the keypad. When you press a key or open the phone, the backlight turns on. If no keys are pr essed, the light turns off after a specified time. T o set the length of time the backlight is active, see “Backlight (Menu 4.
Your Phone 13 Earbud/Microphone The included earbud/microp hone allows you to use your phone virtually hands-free. T o answer a call using t he earbud, press the button on the earbud controller . T o open the recent calls menu, pre ss and hold the earbud controller button.
14 Getting Started Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, plus any optional services available. Important! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending.
Getting Started 15 1. If necessary , switch of f the phone by holding down . 2. Remove the battery: •Press the battery lock above the battery and hold it toward the top of the phone as shown. •Lift the battery away .. 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket.
16 Getting Started Note : T o remove the SIM card, slide it out of the socket 4. Place the battery so that the tabs on the end align with the slots at the bottom of the phone. 5. Press the battery until it clicks into place. Make sure the battery is properly inst alled before switching the phone on.
Getting Started 17 Charging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery which can be charged using the included adapter . Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details. Y ou can use the phone while the battery is charging, but this charges the battery more slowly .
18 Getting Started 3. When the battery is charged, unplug the adapter from the outlet. Press the gray tabs on both sides of the connector to disconnect the adapter from the phone. Note : T o avoid damaging your phone, always unplug t he adapter from the power outlet be fore disconnecti ng the adapter from your phone.

Note : When yo u activate the Auto Redi al option in the Extra Sett ings menu ( Menu 4.7 ), the ph one automatically re-dials up to ten times if the person fails to answer .
Call Functions 21 Correcting the Number Ending a Call T o end a call, briefly press . Redi aling t he Last Number The phone stores the numbers you dialed, received, or missed unless the caller ’s n umber is blocked. See “Call Records” on page 72.
22 Call Functions T o recall any of these numbers: 1. Press to display the list of recent phone numbers. 2. Using the Up and Down navigation keys, scroll through the numbers until the number you want highlights.
Call Functions 23 Adjusting the Volume T o adjust the earpiece volume during a call, press the key to increase the volume level and the key to decrease the level as shown: In Idle mode, use these keys to a djust the keypad tone volume. Answering a Ca ll When you receive a call, the phone rings and displays the incoming call an imation.
24 Call Functions 1. Press or t he Acc ept soft key to ans wer an inc oming call. If the Anykey Answer option is activated, press any key to answer except and the Reject soft key . See “Anykey Answer” on page 88. If t he Active Folder option is activated, calls are answered when you open the phone.

Call Functions 27 Quickly Switching to Silent Mode In silent mode, your phone vibrates instead of ringing when you receive a call. In Idle mode, press and hold until the “Silent Mode” message and display .
28 Selecting Functions and Options Selecting Functions and Options The options used to customize your phone are arranged in menus and sub-menus, which are accesse d using the two soft keys marked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter phone settings.
Selecting Functions and Options 29 T o select a function or option: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . For some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft key . Note : When you acce ss a list of options, yo ur phone highligh ts the current option .
30 Phonebook Phonebook Y ou can store names and phone numbers in your SIM card or phone’ s memories. They are physically separate but are viewed as a single Phonebook.

Phonebook 33 Using Phonebook Entry Options While accessing any Phonebook entry , pre ss the Opti o ns soft key to view the options for the entry . The following options are available: Paste : allows you to paste the number into the normal dialing mode.
34 Phonebook Calle r Group : allows you to organize your Phonebook entry in caller groups so that the phone alerts you in a specific way when a person from one of your groups calls you. Select one of the ten groups available. T o remove an entry from a group, select the No Group option.
Phonebook 35 3. Enter the first few letters of the name that you wish to find. The Phonebook entries display . 5. Press to dial the number , or press the Options soft key to access Phonebook entry options. See “Using Phonebook Entry Options” on page 33.

Phonebook 39 Checking the Memory Status Y ou can check how many nam es and numbers are stored in the Phonebook; SIM card and phone memories. Y ou can also see the capaci ty of both memories. 1. At the idle screen, press the Ph. Book soft key . 2. Se lect the Memory Status option.
40 Entering Text Entering Text Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters using your phone’ s keypad using one of the following text entry modes: •T 9 m o d e This mode allows you to enter w ords with only one keystroke per letter . Each key on the keypad has more than one letter; for example, when you press once, J, K or L displays.

42 Entering Text Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text input mode that allows you to key in any character using single keystrokes based on a built- in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing - .

Options During a C all 47 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of functions you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold At any time, you can place a call on hold. Y ou can also make another call with a call on hold. T o place a call on hold, press the Hold soft key .
48 Options During a Call Mute T o mute your phone so you cannot be heard: 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Highlight the Mute option. 3. Press the OK soft key . Y ou cannot be heard by the caller . To t u r n M u t e o f f : 1. Press the Options soft key .
Options During a C all 49 Sending Tones This option allows you to send the correct type of tones if you need to enter a password or account number when calling an automated system, such as a bank. T o send tones : 1. Press the Options soft key . 2.
50 Options During a Call Using the Message Service SMS Service allows you to read and send short text messages. If you receive an SMS (Short Message Service) message during a call, the Message icon ( ) displays and the service light flashes. See “Messages” on page 60.

60 Messages Messages Short Message Service (SMS) allows you to send and receive short text messages. In addition, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service (EM S), which allows you to include simp le pictures, melodies, and animated images in your messages.
Messages 61 While reading a message, the following options are available using the Opt io ns soft key: Delete : deletes the message. Send : sends the message. See “Creating a Simple T ext Message” on page 63. Reply : creates a reply to the sender .

Messages 63 Write New (Menu 1.3) Use this option to create and send a new text message. Note s:Messages are only sav ed to the Outbox if “Save and Send” is sele cted. When you add media items to th e message, the number of characters you can enter decreases.

Enter a destination number and press the OK soft key . The message is sent. Note : When the pho ne fails to sen d the message, it asks you if you want to retry .
Messages 65 • Add T emplates : applies a preset message template to the text. See “T emplates (Menu 1.4)” on page 65.. • Add Phonebook : adds a Phonebook entry to your message. Select one from the list. • Add Bookmark : adds a web page address stored in your Bookmarks list to the message.
66 Messages Settings (Menu 1.5 ) In this menu, you can set default messaging information. A setting group is a collection of settings required to send messages. The number of setting groups available depends on the capacity of your SIM card. Note : The last setting you accessed is au tomatically activated for sending mess ages.
Messages 67 Common Settin g : The following options are available: Re ply P ath : allows the recipient of your message to send you a reply using your message center , if your network supports this service. Deliver y Reports : allows you to rec eive a message indicating if your message reached its destination.
68 Messages Use the Delete All option ( Menu 1.6.4 ) to delete all items. When a confirmation message displays, press the Ye s soft key to confirm. Memory Status (Menu 1.7) This menu shows how many messages are currently stored in the SIM card, phone, and CB (Cell Broadcast) memories.
Messages 69 When the confirmation message displays, press the Ye s soft key to confirm. Voice Mail (Menu 1.8) This menu provides access to your V oice Mail and related settings. The following options are available: Conn ect to V oice Ma il : Select this option to listen to your messages.
70 Messages Note : V oice Mail is a network feature. Please contact your service provider for further details. Broadcas t (Menu 1.9) This network service allows you to receive t ext messages on various topics, such as t he weather or traffic.
Messages 71 Channel List : indicates the channels you’ve selected for cell broadcast messages. Options are: Select : enables or disables channels on the list by marking each channel. Add Channel : enters the ID and title f or a new channel. Delete : removes a channel from the list.
72 Call Records Call Records In this menu, you can view the length of your calls or a list of calls you missed, received, or dialed. Note : Press in Idle mode to access the th ree types of call records . Missed Calls (Menu 2.1) This menu displays the num bers of the last 20 unanswered calls.
Call Records 73 Press the Options soft key to: • delete the call from the list. • edit a number and save it in Phonebook. Press to dial the number . Outgoing Calls (Menu 2.3) This menu displays the num bers of the last 20 calls you made. The number and name display , together with the date and time the call was ma de.
74 Call Records Call Time (Menu 2.5) This menu displays the length of a calls you made and received. Note : The actual time invoiced for calls by your servic e provide r may vary , depending on network f eatures, such as rounding -off for billing purpos es.
Sound Settings 75 Sound Settings Sound settings allow you to customize t he following: • ring melody , volume, and ty pe. • sounds made when you press a key , receive a message, open/close the phone, or switch your phone on/off.
76 Sound Settings Alert Type (Menu 3.3) This menu specifies how you are to be informed of incoming calls. The following options are available: Light Only : the service light flashes, but the phone neither rings nor vibrates. Melo dy : the phone rings using the ring melody selected in the Ring T one menu ( Menu 3.
Sound Settings 77 Message Tone (Menu 3.5 ) This menu specifies how the phone informs you of a new message. SMS Tone (Menu 3.5.1)7 The following options are available to alert you to new SMS messages: • Off : the phone does not use the SMS tone. • Light Only : the service light flashes.
78 Sound Settings Folder Tone (Menu 3.6) This menu selects the sound that the phone makes w hen you open or close the phone. T o turn the sound off, select Off . Power On/Off (Menu 3.7) This menu selects the melody the phone plays when it is switched on and off.
Sound Settings 79 The following options are available: Error T one : sets the phone to play an error tone when you make a mistake. Minute Minder : sets the phone to beep every minute during an outgoing call to keep you inform ed of the length of your call.
80 Phone Settings Phone Settings Use the Phone Settings menu to customize the features of your phone. My Settings (Menu 4.1) Y ou can change the background image and the Menu display style according to your preference . Wallpaper (Menu 4.1.1) This option changes the backg round image displayed in Idle mode: 1.
Phone Settings 81 Menu Styl e (Menu 4.1.2) This menu allows you to sele ct the menu display style. Y ou can choose either Film Style or Page Style . Greeting Message (Menu 4.2) This menu sets the greeting displayed briefly when the phone is switched on.
82 Phone Settings Language (Menu 4.4) This menu selects a display language. When the language option is set to Automatic , the language is automatically selected according to the language of your SIM card. Security (Menu 4.5 ) The Security feature restricts the use of your phone.
Phone Settings 83 Change PIN (Menu 4.5.2) This feature allows you to change your PIN, provided that the PIN Check feature is enabled. Y ou must enter the current PIN before you c an specify a new one. Once you have entered a new PIN, you are asked to confirm it by entering it again.
84 Phone Settings The password is preset to “00000000” at the factory . Once you have entered a new password, you are asked to re- enter it for confirmation. FDN Mode (Menu 4.5.5) FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supporte d by your SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers.
Phone Settings 85 Display Settings (Menu 4.6) In this menu, you can change the settings for the display or backlight. Contrast (Menu 4.6.1) This menu allows you to adjust the contrast of the display screen for better viewing in different lighting conditions.
86 Phone Settings Auto Light (Menu 4.6.3) Using this feature, you can specify the t ime for which the backlight is to be used. This fea ture helps you to conserve your battery power . The foll owing options are available: Disable : the backlight is used according to the setting in the Back Ligh t menu.
Phone Settings 87 Extra Settin g s (Menu 4.7) Y ou can turn the automatic re-dialing or answering features on or off. The following options are available: Auto Redial : when this option is checked, the phone makes up to ten attempts to redial a phone number after an unsuccessful call.
88 Phone Settings Anykey Answer : when this option is checked, you can answer an incoming call by pressing any key , except and the Reject soft key . T o reject the call, press or the Reject soft key . When this option is unchecked, you can only press or the Accept soft key .
Phone Settings 89 Reset Settings (Menu 4.9) Y ou can easily reset your phone to its default settings. T o reset you r phone: 1. Se lect the Rese t Settings menu. 2. Enter the 8-digit phone password and press the OK soft key . Note : The password is preset to “00000000.
90 Organizer Organizer The Organizer feature enables you to: • view the calendar and organize your schedule. • create a to do list. • set the current date and time. • set the alarm so that the phone rings at a specific tim e. • use the phone as a calculator for basic math or currency exchange operations.
Organizer 91 Viewing the Calendar When you select the Calendar menu ( Menu 5.1 ), the calendar displays with today’ s date highlighted. The following options are avai lable when you press the Options soft key: Search All : displa ys all me mos, start ing with t he oldest , regardless of the date.
92 Organizer 4. If you want an alarm to ring on the selected day , press the Ye s soft key . Otherwise, press the No soft k ey . The m emo is sa ved and the display returns to the calendar . 5. If you pressed the Ye s soft key , set the time for the alarm and press the OK soft key .

Organizer 95 Edit an existing task 1. Highlight the task. 2. Press the Options soft key . 3. Select the Edit option. 4. Change the text, priori ty and/or deadline for the task. Sort the existing tasks by priority or status 1. Press the Options soft key .
96 Organizer Copy a ta sk to the calendar 1. Highlight the task. 2. Press the Options soft key . 3. Select the Copy to Calendar option. 4. Change the text and/or deadline for the task and set the alarm. Delete a task 1. Highlight the task. 2. Press the Options soft key .
Organizer 97 Time & Date (Menu 5.3) This menu allows you to change the time and date displayed. Y ou can also view the time in another city . The following options are avail able: Set Time : allows you to enter the current time. Y ou can choose the time format in the Ti me Fo r ma t menu ( Menu 5.
98 Organizer Alarm (Menu 5.4 ) This feature allows you to: • set an alarm to ring at a specific time. • set the phone to switch on automatically and sound an alarm even if the phone is switched off. The following options are available: Once Alarm : the alarm rings only once and is then deactivated.

Network Services 101 Network Services The Network Services menu provides access to services provided by your service pr ovider . For information about available network services, contact your service provider . Call For wardi ng (Menu 6.1) This service re-routes calls to a number you specify .
