6 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.
Section 1: Getting Started 7 Activating Y our Phone Section 1 3. Slide the SIM card into the SI M card socket so that the card locks into place. Make sure the gold contacts of th e card face into the phone. Note: When you need to remove the SIM ca rd, slide it, as sho wn, and tak e it out of the socket.
8 Section 1 4. Place the battery so that the tabs on th e end align with the slots at the bottom of the p hone. 5. Press the battery down until it c licks into pl ace. Make sure that the battery is prop erly installed befo re switching on the phon e. Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a r echargeable Li-ion battery .

Low Battery Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone sounds and the “ Battery Low” message r epeats at r egular intervals on the display .

24 Section 3 Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the ar ea code and phone number , and press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu, the phone will automa tically redial up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already o n the phone.

Section 3: Call Functions 27 Answering a Call Section 3 Answering a Call When someone calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call imag e. The caller ’s phone number , or name if stored in Phonebook, displays . 1. If necessary , open the phone.

30 Section 3 The number and name, if already stor ed in your Phonebook, displays with the time and date the call wa s made. Delete all This menu allows you to delete all of the records in each call recor d separately , or you can delete all of your call recor ds at one time.

48 Section 5 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your personal gree ting or scheduli n g e v e n t s o n y o u r c a l e n d a r . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.

Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) This network service allows you to r eceive text messages on various topics, such as the weather or traffic.
84 Section 7 • Character support : allows you to select a character encoding type, either GSM-alphabet, Uni-code, or Automatic. If you select Automatic, the phone automatically changes the encoding type from GSM-alphabet to Uni-code when you enter a Uni-code character .

Memory Status Y ou can check the amount of the memory being used and the memory remaining for multimedia messages.

Section 8 88 Time & Date This menu allows you to chan ge the current time and date displayed. Y ou can also find out what time it is in anothe r part of the wor d. The following options ar e available: Set date This options allows you to ente r the month, day , and year .

Section 8 94 Interior Display This menu allows you to select the me nu display style. Y ou can choose either Pattern 1 or Pattern 2 . Highlight the option you want and press the Select soft key or the key . Brightness Control Y ou can adjust the display brightness to see it better in differ ent lighting conditions.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 95 Sound Settings Section 8 My MegaT ones This menu allows you to se lect different ringtone melodies that you have downlo aded from the Internet. Get More MegaT ones This menu allows you to download dif fere nt ringtone melodies from t-zones.
Section 8 96 Keypad T one This menu allows you to select the tone and the volume that will sound when you press a key on your phone. Select the Ty p e menu for the following options : Xylophone, DTMF , or Beep. Select the V olume menu and press the up or down navigation ke ys for the desir ed volume.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 97 Sound Settings Section 8 • Once : the phone alerts you to a new message just once at the time of receipt. • Per i od i c : the phone alerts you to a new message every 2 minutes until you open the message.
Section 8 98 Silent Mode Silent Mode defaults to V ibration . This menu allows you to change your Silent Mo de to Mute i f you desir e. For more informati on on Silent Mode, see "Silent Mode" on page 31. Extra T ones Y ou can customize addition al tones for the phone.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 99 Network Services Section 8 Call Forwarding This network service enables incom ing calls to be rer outed to the number that you specify . Example: Y ou may wish to forward yo ur business calls to a collea gue while you are on holiday .

Section 8 102 The following options ar e available: • Default : the def ault setting provided by the network is used. • Hide number : your number does not display on the other person ’ s phone. • Send number : your number is sent e ach time you make a call.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 103 Security Section 8 Change PIN This feature allows you to change your current PIN, provided that the PIN Check fe ature is enabled. Y ou must enter the current PIN befor e you can specify a new one. Once you have entered a new PIN, you ar e asked to confirm it by entering it again.
