Y our phone 15 Back light When you open y our phone or press any ke y , a back light illuminates the displa y and the ke ypad. Y ou can set the amount of time that the bac k light re mains on b y changing the setting in the Back Light menu ( Menu 9.3.
Y o ur phone 16 Service light The ser vice light is on the front of the phone , and it flashes to indicate that ser vices are av ailable f or y our phone. T o activate or deactiv ate the service light, use the Se rvice Light menu ( Menu 9.3.5 ). F or details, see page 136 .
Getting star ted 17 Getting started Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, y ou are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with y our subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional ser vices av ailable, and m uch more.
Getting star ted 18 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card soc ket so that the card locks into place . Mak e sure the gold contacts of the card f ace into the phone. Note: When you need to remo ve your SIM card, slide it out of the sock et, as shown.

Call functions 24 Ending a call When you w ant to end your call, briefly press the key . Redialing the last number The phone stores the numbers f or calls y ou’v e dialed, received, and missed. F or more details , see “Call records” on page 69 .
Call functions 25 Making a call from Phone book Y ou can store phone numbers that y ou use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memor y . These entr ies are collectively called y our Phone book. Once you ha ve stored a number in y our Phone book, you can dial it by pressing just a f e w ke ys .
Call functions 26 Answering a call When you receiv e a call, your phone rings and displays the incoming call image. If y ou have stored inf or mation about the caller in your Phone book, then this inf or mation displa ys when they call. Note: Y ou can ans wer a call while using t he Phone book or menu f eatures.
Call functions 27 T o revie w missed calls: 1. Open your phone , if closed. 2. Press the View soft ke y . The number corresponding to the most recent missed call displa ys.

Selecting functions and options 31 Selecting functions and options Y our can customize most of y our phone’ s functions. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-men us and are accessed using the two soft k e ys and on your k eypad. Each menu and sub-menu allo ws you to view and change the settin gs f or a par ticular function.
Selecting functions and options 32 Selecting options T o view the v arious functions and change the options av ailable to y ou, fo llow these steps . 1. Select the menu you w ant. 2. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, y ou ma y need to enter a password or PIN.
Phone book 33 Phone book Y ou can store phone numbers with a callers name in y our SIM card or in your phone’ s memor y . These memor y location are ph ysically separate b ut are used as a single entity , called your Phone book . Note: The maximum number of phone nu mbers tha t you can store v ar ies depending on y our par ticular SIM card.

Note: When you change phones, any numbers stored in your SIM card memor y are automaticall y av ailable with the new phone, whereas any numbers stored in the pho ne’ s memor y will need to be ree ntered.

Phone book 37 6. Caller Group : allows y ou to organize y our Phone book entr y into caller groups so that the phone aler ts you in a specific wa y when a person from one of your groups calls you. Select one of the ten groups a v ailab le. T o remov e an e ntry from a group , select the No Group option.

Entering text 47 Entering text When using your phone , you will often need to en ter te xt, such as when storing a name in your Phone book, creating your personal gre eting or scheduling e vents on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters b y using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering text 48 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allo ws character entry , you will notice the te xt input mode indicator on the displa y . Entering text 49 Using T9 mode T9 is a predictiv e te xt input mode that allo ws y ou to ke y in characters using single ke ystrokes . This text input mode is based on a built-in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When y ou are in T9 mode, start enter ing a word b y pressing ke ys 2 through 9 .

After pressing the ke ys corresponding to the word you want to add, press or use the Up or Down k ey to displa y an alternative words . 2. When you press or use the Up or Down k e y at the last alter nativ e word, the displa y show s Add on the bottom line.

Options during a call 53 Options during a call Y our phone provides a n umber of control functions that you can use during a call. Using the Menu Functions During a call, you can access the main menu functions . 1. Press the Options soft k ey . The Options sub menu displa ys and Menu is highligted.

V oice messages 67 V oice messages Using this menu, you can record a v oice memo of up to 30 seconds and then immediately send it by a MMS (Multimedia Message Ser vice) message. Recording and sen ding voice messages 1. T o record a voice message , select the V oice messages menu ( Menu 1 ).

Outgoing calls The Outgoing calls menu ( Menu 2.3 ) allo ws you to view the last 20 calls you dialed. The n umber or name displa ys together with the time and date the call w as made.

Network ser vices 73 Network ser vices These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provider to check their a vailability , if you w ant to subscr ibe to them. Call forwarding Call forwarding ( Menu 3.1 ) enables incoming calls to be rerouted to the number that you specify .

Messages 85 Settings In the Settings menu ( Menu 5.1.5 ), you can set up def ault message inf ormation. A setting group is a collection of settings required to send messages. The n umber of setting groups a v ailable de pends on the capacity of your SIM card.
Messages 86 Deliv ery report s : allows y ou to activate or deactiv ate the repor t function. When this function is activated, the network informs you whether or not y our message has been deliv ered. Bearer sele ction : allows y ou to choose either GSM or GPRS , depending on y our network.

Note: Y ou can add text, an image, and a sound o nly once for each page. 6. T o change the text or replace an image or sound with another one, select the item and press the Options sof t ke y or the ke y .

Messages 97 When the confirmation message displays, press the Ye s soft ke y or the ke y to confir m the deletion of your messages. Memor y status Using Memory St atus ( Menu 5.2.7 ) you can chec k the memor y used and the memory remaining for multimedia messages.
Messages 98 Voice mail The Vo i c e m a i l menu ( Menu 5. 4 ) is used to s pecify the wa y your phone access y ou voice mailbo x, or to edit the number used f or accessing voice mail. The f ollowin g options are av ailable: Call voice mail : to use the V oice Mail feature, y ou must enter the voice server n umber from y our service provider .

Funbox 100 Navigating the WAP browser Entering text i n the WAP browser When you are prompted to enter te xt, the active te xt input mode is indicated on the screen. The f ollow ing modes are a v ailable: Upper-case cha racter mode (A) : allo ws you to enter upper- case English characters.

Funbox 102 Goto URL : allows y ou to manually enter the URL address of a W eb page. After entering an address, press the OK soft ke y to visit the site. Show URL : displa ys the URL address of the site y our are visiting. It also enables y ou to declare the current site as the star tup homepage.
