Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Started Understanding this User Manual The chapters of this manual gene rally follow the same order a s the menus and sub-menus in your phone. A robu st index for quick reference to most fe atures begins on p age 127.
5 Batt ery I ndicat or The battery indicator in th e upper-right corner of th e display indicates battery power leve l. Four bars indicate a full charge, while an em pty icon indicates an almost empty battery. Two to three minutes be fore the ba ttery becomes t oo low to operate, a blin king empty battery icon appears and a tone sounds.
Getting Started 6 2. Insert the top end of th e ba ttery into the phone housing using the directional arrow printed on the battery . The gold contacts at the battery end m ust al ign with c ontacts on the phone. Push bottom e nd of the battery down until it snaps into plac e.
7 2. Lift the batte ry from the bo ttom end (see arrow 1) and remove. 3. Slide the batte ry cover up until it snaps into place. Char ging t he Batt ery Your phone is powered by a rechar geable standard Li-ion battery. Only use Samsung-approved char ging devices and batteries .
Getting Started 8 Travel Charger The travel charger i s a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 12 0/ 220 VAC outlet. 1. Pull th e connector cover ou t and turn to expose th e connector. Insert the travel charger adapter end with th e arrow up into the connector at the bottom of the phone.
9 Note: Once your voicemail account has been set up, you can use the voicemail selection 5 (under the Messaging menu) to view details of voice messages in your voicemail box. Voicemail Setup 1. Press and hold or from your phone or dial yo ur wireless phone number from any touch-tone phon e.

Press and hold the END key, to power On or Off. Wh en you receiv e an incomin g call, press to send the call direc tly to voicemail .
Understanding Yo ur Phone 1 4 • Press to return to the home screen from any menu, or to cancel the last input. • Press to send an incoming call di rectly to Voice mail. Send Key The Send key is used to answer ca lls, dial calls, and to recall the last number(s) di aled, rece ived, or missed.
15 Understanding the Display Screen The top line of your phone’s display contain icon s that indicate network status, battery power, signal strength, co nnection type and more. The black area of t he home screen shows icons t hat indica te feature and function status.
Understanding Yo ur Phone 1 6 Bottom Display Icons No servi ce : Your ph one cannot fi nd a signal because you’ re outside a service area. You ca nnot make or receive ca lls. Wait for a signal or move to an open area to find a signal. Thi s indicator always appears when you first turn on your phone and disappears once service is located.
17 Dial ogue bo xes Dialogue boxes prompt for action, inform you of status, or warn of situati ons such as lo w memo ry. Dialogue boxes and their definiti ons are ou tlined b elow. • Choice -Example: “SAVE MESSAGE?” • Reconfirm -Example: “ERASE ALL MESSAGES?” • Performing -Example: “SENDI NG.
Call Functions 18 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a call. Making a Call 1. From the home screen, enter the number to call using the numeric keypad and press .

Call Functions 22 Deleting Call History Entries 1. From the home screen, press then press the Directional key up or down until the desired number is highlighted. Press the right soft key Options . A pop- up menu appears in the display . 2. Press the Direc tional key down to highlight Erase and press .
23 Roaming What is Ro aming? Your phone can roam on other compati ble digital network s. Roaming occurs when you travel outside a pre-designate d coverage area. The ro aming icon displays when roaming is active and extra charges may apply wh en making or re ceiving calls.
Call Functions 24 • Choice List : If Voic e Com ma nds is not abs olute ly conf ident th at it has corr ectly id entified a name or nu mber, it can display a choice lis t of up to three po ssibili ties, and prompt you to confirm t he corr ect one.
25 • Lookup<Name> : Open the contact re cord for any name in your Contacts List. • Go To <Menu>: Open any applica tion installed on your de vice. • Check <Item> : Provides details of yo ur phone status, v oicemail, messages, m issed calls, time , signal strength, battery le vel, and volume le vel.
Call Functions 26 2. After a brief pause, a list of optional comma nds appears in the display and the audio pr ompt “Please say a command ” plays through the earpie ce or speakerphone. 3. Say “Call” at a distance of 3-12 inches from the phone in a natural voic e.
27 5. The contact name a ppears in the To: field. For more information, refer to “Creating and Sending Text Messages” on page 51. Send Picture Send Picture allows you to ac cess the Picture Messaging menu. You can use entries stored in My Pictures or you can take a picture of an image using the camera.

29 2. A list of commands appears in the displa y and the a udio prompt “Please say a co mmand” plays through the speakerphone. 3. In a single command, say “Look up” followed by the nam e of a contact entry at a dist ance of 3-12 inches from the microphone.

31 Menu Number Acc elerators You can also access menus and sub-menus faster and with fewer key presses using menu num ber accelerators . To access a menu or sub-menu quickly, press MENU , then enter the menu and/or sub-menu number(s) for the feat ure desired.

37 Section 5: Entering Text This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. Th is section al so describes how to use Word text entry system to reduce the amount of key stro kes associated with en tering text.
Entering Text 38 Now, for practice, enter the word “Hello” into your message by pressing each of the followi ng keys only once Word recognizes that the most frequently used word for the sequence of numbers entered. The word you just entered is “HELLO.

Adding a Contact When you ad d informat ion to your Contacts, you can add it as a new entry or a s an existi ng entry.

51 Section 7: Messaging This section allows yo u to send or receive different types of messages. It also includes the feat ures and functionalit y associated wi th messaging. Types of Messages Your phone is capable of sending Email, text, and pictur e messages.
Messaging 52 6. Press the key to m ove to the Text field. In th e text field, compose your messa ge using the keypad. At any point while composi ng a message , press the left soft key Abc or the right soft key Options soft keys to display additional options.
53 3. Press New Message . 4. Press Picture Message . 5. Enter the phone number or Email address of the recipient. At any point whil e entering yo ur recipient(s) phone number or Email address, pre ss the left soft key 123 or t he right soft key Add soft keys for a dditional options.
Messaging 54 Highlight the desire d sound or highlight Recor d New to record a sound and press . 9. Highlight the Subject fi eld. In the S ubject fie ld, compose your message using the keypad. Press th e left soft key Abc to change entry mode. Press the right soft key Options to Add Quick Text .
55 5. Press the key to move to the Voice field. Yo ur voice recording is shown. Pres s the right soft key Options to display a pop-up menu with the options listed: •R e v i e w : Play s the voi ce recordi ng. • Save As Draft : Save the messag e to your Draft folder.
Messaging 56 Retrieving New Messages While text messages fr om other phones are de livered directly to your phone, Picture mes sages and Email will be stored in the Inbox of the me ssage server and t he server will alert you to new messages. Therefore you need to retrieve new messages to your phone and read them on the phone.
57 2. After loadi ng, the ima ge (and text if any) contai ned in th e Picture Message appears in the display. 3. Press the Di rectional k ey up or down to scroll through the message or view t he en tire picture if necessary. 4. Press the left soft key Mute/Unm ute (while an attached sound byte is playi ng), or the r ight soft key Options .
Messaging 58 Note: For the option Reject to appear in the display when you receive a Voice Message, Pic-Voice Auto Receive mode must be set to Off in the Message Settings menu. The default Pic-Voice Auto Receive value is set to On. 1. When you receive a new Voice Message, p ress Yes .
59 Note: Text messages can only be viewed during a call. Picture messages can not be downloaded during a call. 2. You can view a text message without disconn ecting your call by pressing the right soft key Options. Sele ct Messaging > Messag ing > Inbox and press .
Messaging 60 – Save Quick T ext : Saves the text received in the message to th e Quick Text list. – Lock/Unlock : Locks or unlock s the entry to prevent ac cidental deletion. – Add To Contacts : Saves the nu mber of the sen der to you r Contacts as a new entry or add to an existin g entry.
61 Sent Your phone st ores messag es in the Sent f older, regard less of whether the message wa s successfully transmitted. Verify if and when a message or Emai l was successfully transmitted by enabli ng the Enh. Delivery Ack feature in Message Settings.
Messaging 62 Note: If no sound byte is attached to the message, press the left soft key Erase to delete the message. Press the left soft key Mute/ Unmut e to mute/unmute a sound byte attached to the picture message. 6. Press the Directio nal key up or down to highlight the desired option.

Messaging 64 Note: Press the left soft key My Pics to add a new picture. – Preview : Allows you to preview the messag e. – Save As Draft : Save the m essage to your D raft folder. – Priority Level : Save the m essage with a H igh or Norm al priority.
65 Erase Option s You can erase unlocked me ssages in your Inbox, Dra fts fold er, or Sent folder. Locked me ssages are not erased. To erase messages: 1. From th e Messaging menu, press Options . 2. The follo wing opti ons are av ailable: • Erase Inbox : Eras es unlocked message s in yo ur Inbox .
Messaging 66 • Signature : Adds t he sign ature t ext to each message s ent. Choose from N one or Cus tom. Voicemail New voicem ail alerts are se nt via a free Tex t message. These messages indicate how many new and u rgent voicemails are in your voice m ailbox.

81 4. Press Security . You’re prompted to enter the lock code. The defa ult lock code is the last fo ur digits of yo ur telephone number. 5. Enter the Lock Code an d press . Several security menus appear in the display. 6. Press Phone Lock Setting .

Call Emergency Numbers in Lock Mode In Lock Mode, you can dial 911 to place an emergency call. Note: If you dial 911, your phone dials the emergency number immediately (no prompt).

Media Center 90 Get New Pictures 1. From the home screen, press MENU . 2. Press for Media Center menu. 3. Pres s Pict ures . 4. Press Get New Pictures . 5. Press Get New Applicatio ns . Follow the on- screen prompts to download pictures and wallpaper from the Media Center server.
91 Take Picture s 1. From the home screen, press the Camer a key on the right side of the phone. 2. Press the left soft key My Pics to view images already saved to your phone.

The download process begins. At the “App installed successfully. Would you like to run it?” prompt, press Yes to launch app lication, o r No to return to category list.
Tools 94 Section 10: Tools The topics covered in this section allow you to schedule appointments, view the ca lendar, set an alarm, view time zones, take notes, and perform simple ma th calculations. Note: All instructions on accessing or changing the features will begin from the SETTINGS AND TOOLS menu.
