Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Sams ung MyShot™ II ph one by activating y o ur service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an unders tanding of how this manual is put together .
5 Important!: Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the batter y . 1. Insert the top end of the battery first, matching the gold contacts on th e inside of the batter y to those on the phone.
Getting Started 6 Import ant! : For connection to an electrical supply not located in North America, you must use an adaptor of the proper configuration for the power outlet. Use of the wrong adapter could damage your phone and void your warranty . 2.
7 Note: If you are outside of your carrier’ s coverage or roaming area, the No Service icon ( ) appears at the top of the phone’s display . Front Display — Indicates the status of your phone, including status icon s, message indicators, signal strength, and so on.
11 2. Main Display — Indicates the status of your phone, including numbers dialed , feat ure an d functio n scree ns, status icons, message indica tors and contents, signal strength, and so on. 3. OK Key — Pressing when navigating through a menu accepts the highlighted choice in a menu.
Understanding Y our Phon e 12 Command K eys Functions for the soft keys are defined by what appears above each in the displa y . There are tw o soft keys, Left ( ) and Right () . Left Soft K ey Some functions of the Left soft key ( ) are as follows: • In standby mode, press the Menu soft key ( ) to open the Main Menu.
13 • Press to return to standby mode from any menu, or to cancel the last input. Navigation Key Use the directional keys on the N avigation key ( ) to browse menus, sub-menus, and lists. Each directional key al so acts as a shortcut to launc h applications.

An alert tone sounds and a notification message appe ars in the display when a ne w message arrives. 17 Input m ode Input mode dete rmines how you enter text, numb ers, and symbols. Whil e at any text entry screen, p ress the Left sof t key , then choose the input mode from the p op-up menu using the Navigati on key . Optional input modes are T9 Word , Abc , ABC , 123 , and Symbols .
Call Functions 18 Section 3: Call Functions This section explains how to make and a nswer calls. T his section also inc ludes the features and functionali ty associated wit h making or answering calls. Making a Call — Number Entr y Dialing 1. With the phone on, enter the nu mber you wish to call using the keypad.
19 Man ual Paus e Calling When you call automa ted system s (like banking servic es), you are often required to ente r a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the number s each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special charac ters called pauses.
Call Functions 20 Making a Call — Speed Dialing Y ou can store phone num bers and contact name s in your phone’ s Contacts list. Spee d Dialing lets you quic kly and easily dia l any contac t in your C ontacts list by using that contact’s location number in the list.
21 Quick Sear ch Dial ing a C ontact T o find and dial a Cont act, do the follo wing: 1. In standby mode, press the number keys that correspond to the first few letters of the Contact name, as shown. 2. Press the Up navigation key . The Contact List screen appears showing the desired Contact name, as shown.
Call Functions 22 4. Say “ Ye s ” to confirm the name or “ No ” to hear the next name, or use the keypad to select the corre ct name from the list. (For more in formation, refer to “Choice Lists” on page 97.) • Press the Repeat soft key to say the na me aga in.

Call Functions 26 Incoming call log for th e time and date of the call , as well as other infor mation. 1. At the Rece nt Calls menu, select Incoming Calls .

Call Functions 28 Note: Call Timer is not for billing purposes. 1. At the Recent Calls menu, select Call T imer . The foll owi ng t ime rs ap pe ar in the display: • Last Call — View the duration of your last call. • Home Outgoing — View the du ration of the total outgoing calls made on your phone in your ho me area since the last era sure.
29 2. T o reset a selected counte r (e xcept Last Reset and Lifetime Data Counter), highlight the desired counter and press the Reset soft key . 3. T o reset all counters except Lifetime Data Counter , press the Reset All soft key . 4. T o exi t the Call Tim er list, press or .
Menu Navigation 30 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the avai lable menus associat ed with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access the menus and sub menus in y our phone using the navigation key ( ) and soft ke ys ( ), or use a shortcut.
31 2. Press the number of the me nu, sub menu, and so on for the feature that you wish to access. Example: Press the Menu soft key , then press , . This takes you to the T ools menu (Menu 7), and then to the Calendar (sub menu 2).
Entering T ext 32 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired text entry mode when entering characters using the phone keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry syste m to reduce the number of key stro kes needed to enter text.
33 Using T9 ® Mode T9 Word recognizes commonly used words for the numeric sequence of key press e s and inserts the word into your message. T9 Word is much faster than the traditional method of text entr y (Abc) and requires only one key press per le tter of the word tha t you’re spelling.

35 Section 6: Understanding Y our Contacts This section explains how to ma nage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Contacts. C ontacts entries can be sorted by name.
Understanding Y our Contacts 36 4. Enter a phone number ( Mobile , Home , or Work ,) or an e- mail address ( E-Mail ) for the new Contacts entr y . 5. If desired, assign th e new Contact to a Group . This lets you send messages to and find this Contact and other related contacts.
37 4. Select the number type that matches your new entry . The Add New Entry screen appears in the display with the number being save populating the sele cted number type field. (For more information on cre ating a new Contacts entry, see “Using the Contacts Add Option” on page 35.
Understanding Y our Contacts 38 • Lock / Unlock — Prevents/all ows deletion of the selected number . • Erase all — Deletes all numb ers from the selected Calls log.
39 Key p a d M e t h o d s If you have stored a named co ntact in your Contact s list, Find and Quick Sear ch let you locate the ent ry qu ickly . Y ou can also browse for a particular Contact in a Contacts Group. Find by Name 1. In standby mode, do one of the followi ng: • Press the Contacts soft key .

41 • Press and hold to clear all num bers in the highlig hted field. Note: Y ou can also add numbers (such as a P ager number or a Fax number) to the entry, assign it to a Group, and add other information. 4. When you’re finished editing the entry , press .

45 Memor y Info Use the Memory sub-menu to view the amount of Contacts entries you have stored, as we ll as the remaining mem ory . 䊳 In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , then select Contacts ➔ Memor y Info . The amounts of memory used and remaining fo r Contacts entries appear in the display .
Messaging 46 Section 7: Messaging This section explains ho w to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the features and function ality associa t ed with messaging. Types of Messages Y our phone is able to send and receive T ext and Picture messages to compatible phones and dev ices.
47 – Save As Draft — Save the m essage to your Draft fo lder . – Save As Preset — Save the text in this message as a new Pres et Msg. – Add T o Contacts — Save the recipient’ s number or e-mail address as a Contacts list entry .
Messaging 48 1. In standby mo de, press and hold the Camera key ( ). The camera viewfinder screen appears in the displa y . 2. Using the display as a viewfinder , when the image that you wish to send appears in the display , press TAK E ( ) to take a pictu re.
49 • Press the Sounds soft key , then select My Sounds . The follow ing options appear in the display: – Record New — Record a new memo t o insert into the m essage. Note: Y ou can record and insert a voice memo of up to 60 seconds in length, if you record first before attaching a picture.
Messaging 50 Tip: T o launch the Create Pic Msg screen using a voice command — In standby mode, press and hold until the phone prompts, “ Say a command. ” Say “ Send Picture ” into the microphone. Y ou are then prompted to say a Contact name or a number for the first recipient of the message.

If you wish to insert a sound into your Picture message, use the Down navigation key to highlight the Sound: field and do the followin g; otherwise, proceed to step 8. • Press the Sounds soft key , then select My Sounds . The foll owing options appear in the display: – Record New — Record a new memo t o insert into the m essage.
Messaging 52 • View Later — Saves the message to your inbox, w here you can view it later , the n returns your phone to standby mode. Select the des ired option .
53 4. Once a Picture message has been downloaded to your phone, the new Picture message appears in the display . If the message includes a soun d file, the phone begins playing it. Note: For more information on viewing and managing received picture messages, see “Inbox” on page 53.
Messaging 54 Managing Inbox Messages 1. In standby mo de, press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Inbox . The Inbox appears in the disp lay . 2. Highlight a messa ge in the list. 3. Press the Erase soft key to remo ve the highlighted message from the Inbox.
55 • Lock / Unlock — Block/permit erasure of th e highlighte d messag e. • Add T o Contacts — Save the re cipient’s number to your Contact s. • Message Info — Shows m essage delive ry status, addressee, size, and so on. •E x t r a c t — Call t he recip ient of th is mes sage.
Messaging 56 2. Enter the phone Number or E-Ma il address of a recipient, then press . 3. Compose your message using the keypad , then press the Options soft key . 4. Select Save As Draft . A conf irmation me ssage appears in the display and your message is saved to the Drafts box.
57 • Add Preset Msg — Insert p re-composed text into your m essage text. • Save As Draft — Saves the changed me ssage to the Dr aft Box. • Priority Level — Cho os e Urgent or Normal .
Messaging 58 • Listen Later — Returns you to standby mode w here you can later choose to call your mailbox and rev iew your messages. 䊳 Select the des ired option . Listen to V oicemail Now When you choose to review your new voicemail message(s) right away , your phone calls your voice mailbox so tha t you can listen to the message(s).
59 Message Settings Use the Msg Settings sub-menu to define settings for your text and picture messages. 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Msg Settings .
Widgets 60 Section 8: Widgets Widgets are special icons that yo u can use to launch particu lar phone features and functions or to quickly a ccess particul ar Internet addresses. Y ou can access the widgets on your U460 phone by using the Widget Bar .
61 Configure W idgets This option lets you select which widgets appear in the Widget Bar . Note: Y ou cannot Change, Delete, or Move the Per s on al iz e ( ), My Account () , o r Storefront ( ) widgets. 1. In standby mode, sel ect the Personal ize widget ( ), then select Per so n al iz e Widgets .
Browser 62 Section 9: Browser This section outlines ho w to launch Browser , how to naviga te to other pages on the web, and ho w the keys on the keypad are used with the web application.
63 • Simple text. Y ou can act upon options or li nks by using the soft keys. Browser soft k eys The bottom of the Browser display is a bar that contains browser commands. The Left and Right ( ) soft keys on the keypad are used to exe cute the com mand that appears abov e them in the display .
Games & Apps 64 Section 10: Games & Apps This section explains the Games & Apps features where users can download mult imedia, applic ations, games, and check news and sports.
65 Section 11: Camera Use your MyShot phone to take fu ll color digital pictures, display them on your phone ’ s vivid c olor display , and instantly share them with family and friends. It’ s fun, an d as easy to use as a traditional point-a nd-click camera.
Camera 66 Press Send ( ) to save the picture and inc lude it in a Picture message. (S ee “Send Pic ture Messages in Came ra Mode” on page 47 for more information.) Press the Erase soft key to erase t he photo. Tip: Y ou can change a number of the camera’ s settings to suit particular uses for your pictures.
67 Color Effect — Lets you select a color filter for your photos. Memory Counter — Indicates the nu mber of photos stored in the My Ima ges folder and the maximum number of photos you can save at the current Resolution and Quality settings.
Camera 68 Shooting Mode Shooting Mode lets you take a single picture, multiple pict ures in succession, or a single pictur e in a Fun Frame at the touch of the TA K E key ( ). Single Shot Mode 1. In camera mo de, press the Options soft key , then select // ➔ Single Shot .
69 Fun Frame Mode Fun Frame lets you temporarily appl y one of the preloaded picture frames in your phone to c haracterize or enhance one or more pictures. 1. In camera mode, press the Options soft key , then highlight // ➔ Fun Frame . The icon appears in the displa y .
Camera 70 the display: • 10 Sec. • 5 Sec. • 3 Sec. • Off 2. Select the desire d Self Ti mer delay . Y ou are ret urned to the camera screen and, if you select a value other than Off , a countdown timer (such as, ) appears in the display .
71 Settings Camera Settings (unlike other Camera Op tions) do not return to their respect ive default value s when you end the current Camera session. Instead, Camera Setti ngs apply to future Camera sessions until you change individual Settings values o r until you use Reset Settings.
Camera 72 Metering 1. In camera mo de, press the Options soft key . The options menu bar appears in the display . 2. Select Settings ➔ Metering . The following options appear in the display: • Matrix — Adjusts exposur e to the aver age ligh t level ov er a large picture area.
73 Reset Settings 1. In the Camera Settings screen, press the Reset soft key . The following options appe ar in the displa y: • No — Keeps the curren t camera settings. • Ye s — Resets the camera settings to default values. 2. Select the desired option.

Point, Click, and Send Pictures T ake a picture or and se nd it to anyone with a compatible devic e in a few easy steps. 1. In standby mode, press the Camera key ( ), hold it for 2 seconds, then release it to activate the camera.
75 Section 12: Multimed ia This section outlines your phone’ s mul timedia f unctions and key features associa ted with multimedia. Accessing Multimedia 1.

Multimedia 78 3. Select the desire d option, then do one of the f ollowing: • If you se lect the All option — Use the Navig ation ke y to high light a music file, then press the Play soft key to play t he file. Tip: T o play additional files, highli ght and mark additional files for playback.
79 – Add to Playlist — Moves you to the Playlists menu to let you add the selected music file t o a playlist. – Remove From Lis t — T emporarily drops the sele cted music file from the Library list. T o restore the music file to t he list, turn your pho ne off and back on again.
Multimedia 80 – Ringtone Info — Displays in formation about the selected file, suc h as the file name, the file type, and the data size. – Get More T ones — Launches th e Browser to let yo u locate and download additional ringtones. 3. Press and/or select the desired option.
81 V oice Memo Y ou can use your pho ne to record voice memos for la ter playback. Note: The maximum length for a single voice memo is 60 seconds. Y ou can sav e as many voice m emos as will fit i n the empty memory ca pacity . Record a Voice Memo 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , then select Multimedia ➔ My Sounds ➔ Record New .
Multimedia 82 Multimedia ➔ My Sounds . A list of sound files appears in the display . 2. Highlight a vo ice memo fi le. 3. Press the Options soft key . 4. Select Erase all .Y ou are prompted to confirm erasure of all recorded sound (voice memo) files.
83 Section 13: T ools/Utilities This section explains how to use your phone’ s Digital Assistant functionality t o schedule event s, set reminders, c reate a “to do” list, perform calcu lations, and more.
T ools/Utilities 84 The Bluetooth wirele ss technology settings menu p rovides the ability to view and change t he device name, show the visibility , and set the security f or the device. T urn B luetoot h On/Of f When the Bluet ooth is turned on, you can use th e Bluetooth features av ailable.
85 Register ed Li st This menu provides a list of Bluetooth wirele ss technology devices discovered by your han dset. 1. From the T ools/Utilities menu, select Bluetooth ➔ Registered List . T ools/Utilities 88 Alarm Clock Y our phone has an alarm clock that can be set to go off once, or daily at a spe cified time. Once set, the al arm clock is easy to change or turn off c ompletely . Note: The alarm doesn’t function when the phone is turned off.

Now , whenever you launch W orld Time, your selected second clock’ s time and date appear a t the bottom of the Wor l d Ti me screen. Calculator Y ou can perform calculation s, inclu ding addition, sub traction, multiplication, and division using your phone.

93 1. From the T ools/Utilities menu, select Converter ➔ Currency . 2. Press the Rates soft key . The Exchange Rate list for the USD currency appears in the display . 3. Press Edit ( ). The Edit Exchange Rate screen appears in the display . 4. Highlight the currency Exchange Rate to be changed.

95 Tip Calculator Tip Calculator automat ically calc ulates the followin g amounts: • Gratuity (tip) • Individual payment (for groups) Calculations are ba sed on the total amount of the check, a selected percentage, and th e number of people paying.
Voice Service 96 Section 14: V oice Ser vice This section explains ho w to use your phone’ s digital assistant functional ity to schedule events, set reminders, create a “to do” list, perform c alcul ations, and more.

Voice Service 98 • Automatic —VoiceSignal display s a choice l ist only wh en it is not sure if it has correctly rec ognized th e name or number . • Always On —VoiceSignal alwa ys displays a cho ice list, even when there is only on e choice. • Always Off —VoiceSignal never displa ys a choice l ist.
99 2. Select Adapt Digits . Y our phone displays the first digit sequence and “ Please say ” plays through the speaker followed by the four digi ts appearing in the display . 3. Wait for the beep a nd say the digits using your normal tone of voice.
Voice Service 100 V oice Laun ch T o set the key or action tha t launches VoiceSignal, do the following: 1. From the V oice SVC menu, select V oice Settings ➔ V oice Launch . The following options appear in the display: • Key Only — Press and hold to activate VoiceSignal f or one call.
