19 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device for transmitting and recei ving signals. The shape and size o f th e ante nna is determ ined, in pa rt, b y the frequenc y of the si gnals that they receive. An ant enna makes the call sound clearer when it is fully extended.
20 • The lo wer ar ea of t he LCD d isplays in-use in format ion, for example , the calling part y’ s name and number , the call ti mer , Mu te and Call Waiting, menus, sub menus, etc. End (powe r on/off ) key This key is utilized in several ways: • Press and hold t o turn on your phone.
21 OK/Message key The key stores information that you enter , and also acts as an “OK” button w hen pressed. When in standby mode, functi ons as a Mail Kit menu access k ey to send messages and revi ew received message s. Speaker The speaker is for listening to voice c onversations.
22 Adaptor out let Use the adaptor outl et to connect your pho ne to a wireless data device or a hands-free car kit (both sold separat ely). The adaptor outlet is locat ed at the bottom of the phon e. • T o charge your battery , plug the travel adapt or that is supplied with your phone into a w all ou tlet.
23 Getti ng Star ted Getting s ervice Y ou must contact your service provider and follow their instructions for obtaining service for your phone. We s uggest that you read this user guide to fully understand the services that your pho ne supports.
24 Several ways to answer a call When you receive a call, the phone will ring and th e phone icon displays on your screen. If the call er can be identifi ed, the caller’ s phone number , (or name if pre-stored in your Phone Book) di splays.

28 Accessing menus using the navigation key Menu options are numbe red but can also be accessed by using the navigat ion key . Press the on the arrow in the directi on which you wish to go. Press right to go to the right, press do wn to go forward, press left to go lef t, and press up to go backwards through t he menu options.

30 Silent mode The “Silent Mode” feature allo ws you to instantaneously silence the ringer when in s tandb y mod e. • With the phon e in standby mode, press and hold for 2 seconds. “Entering Silen t Mode” displays briefl y . (The silent mode icon displa ys on the standby screen.
31 Talk mode Y ou can place and answer calls only when your phone is turned on. When you are on a call your phone is i n T alk mode. Pressing will displ ay a list of the In-Use menu options. Whisper mode With this feature you can have semi -private conversati ons.
32 The to p line o f the disp lay sc reen Display indicators (or i cons) appear across the top of your phone’s display screen. T he si gnal stren gth an d batte ry streng th icon s will always a ppear , but other icons display based upon your phone’ s operating mode.
33 Roamin g: This icon displays w hen your p hone is o utside your service provider’ s area and your phone is receiving service from another carrier’ s network.
34 Other phone icons Duplicate: This icon indicat es that a duplicate message was sent. E-mail : This icon represents an e-mail address. Fax: This icon re presents a f ax number . Filed Message: This icon displays if a message is filed. Home: T his icon indicat es represents an individual’ s home number .
35 Installing the battery The battery attache s to the phone very easily: 1. Ge ntly place the bottom end of the battery into the provided slots on the underside of the phon e. 2. Press t he top end of t he battery down(T he top end of the battery displays the w ord Samsu ng i n raised letters.
36 When the phone has finished chargi ng it can be disconnect ed. Low battery indicator Y ou can tell whether or not your batt ery needs to be recharged by ch ecking the battery indicator (th is icon is located in the upper -right corner of the display screen).
37 Caring for the battery Protec ting your batt ery The guidelines listed below help you get the most out of your battery’ s performance. • Use only Samsung-approved b atteries and adaptors. These adaptors are designed to maximize batt ery life. Using other bat teries or adaptors could void your warranty and may cause damage.
38 Using the travel adaptor The travel adaptor allow s you to charge your phone’ s bat tery from any 110 volt AC standard wall outlet. Also, using th e travel adaptor all ows you to make a phone call whil e the battery is cha rging.
39 Calls Outgoing T o place a cal l press to power on your phone. The phone first sho ws an animated sequence and t he icons discussed earlier display , this indicates your phone is on. (No dial tone will be heard). This is called standb y mode. 1. En ter the phon e number you wish to call (up to 32 digits ), by pressing the numeric keys.
40 Missed Y our phone keeps a list of calls that you did not answer wh en th e phone w as active and service available. The pho ne indicates a missed call by displaying a text n otific ation o n the screen.
41 Reviewing outgoin g, incoming , or missed calls When a call log is displayed, press the number associated with the call log to be connected. 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu. 2. Press for Calls . • Press the number associated with the call log to select an opti on: • Press for Outgoing calls.
42 Each entry , or call log c ontains the name and /or (if available), phone nu mber and a time/date stamp. In addition to the Incomin g, Outgoing, and Missed call directori es, your phone maintains an air time log. For further information see “Air time” on page 43 .

57 Adding pauses When you call automated systems (like banking services), you are often required t o enter a passw ord or ac count number . Instead of man ually ent ering the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Phone Book separated by special characters called pau ses.
58 Storing pauses in a phone book entry T o sto re a number in your Phone Bo ok that contains pauses. 1. Ent er the phone number you want to store (such as t he bank’ s teleservice phone number). 2. Press . The pause menu optio ns display . 3. Press to highli ght one of the three pause menu options offered.
59 Pause dialing from a store d entry T o pau se dial from the Phone Book : 1. If you stored the number u sing (2 second) “ T” pause(s) , simply ca ll the number fr om the P hone B ook.
60 Prepending a phone number The Prepend optio n permits you to add prefix numbers such as area codes and network feature activa tion codes to phone numbers that are already stored in your Phone Book o r call l og. T o Prepen d a stored phone number: 1.

65 Two-touch dialing Memory location s 010 through 09 9 are special T w o-T ouch locations. For example, for locati on number 013, press and hold down until the name and number are d isplayed and called . T o dial the numbe r 100, Three T ou ch diali ng is required.
66 Web/Minibrowser Y our phone comes equipped with Wireless Web Internet access through a MiniBrowser . The MiniBrowser di splays immediate informatio n through your phone. You can view spec ially designed versions of popular si tes which include sports, weather , news, stock quotes, etc.
67 Launching the minibrowser Note: The first time you use the MiniBrowser , you will be prompted to go through a security setup process that takes approximately three to five minutes. Note: When the security key is in itially sent to t he carrier , a unique value is created.
68 Exiting the web/mi nibrowser Press to exit the Web . If the “Prompt to end” or “Prom pt both” option i s selecte d in the MiniBrowse r setup ( ), a prompt asking if you want to end th e Mini Brow ser call is di splaye d.

71 Using links Links have se veral purposes , including j umping to a different page, jumpi ng to a different sit e or even initiati ng a phone call from some site s. Links are shown inside of brackets ( [ ] ), and you can normally use the left soft key to select a link wh en it is hig hligh ted.

91 Voice d ial Y our phone features Voice Dial(ing). Y ou can call up to 20 stored names simply by speaking one of the names into the micro phone. Using t he V oice Dialing fea ture requires that you first program the phon e to recognize the name of the person you are calling.
92 4. Wait for the beep and then say the name. For best results, use names with at least two syll ables, or use both a f irst and last name. The ph one store s the name as a “first” sample, and then prompts you to say the name again. 5. Resp ond to the pro mpt by repeating the name exact ly as you did t he first time.

101 Sending a fax or data file When connected to a comput ing device, your phone allows wirel ess fax and data t ransmission s. Your phone functio ns as a wireless modem to send the fax or data fil e to the number designated by your PC software.

105 For example, to enter the word “hello”, you can spell out the word by pressing only five keys, 4-3-5-5-6. T9 T ext Input recognizes the most common ly used word for that numeric sequence is “hello”.

107 Outbox Y our phone stores messages in Outb ox, regardless of whether th e message was successfully tr ansmitted. If “Do Not Sa ve” was not se t in the Save Message setting under Msg Setup, you can review , resend, or delete any message stored in the Out box.
108 Message memory capacity Y our phone can store up to 40 messages combined for all messages. The storage capacity includes all received, sent, filed message types, VMN (V oicemail Notifi cation), and t ext messages. The number of messages stored, depends upon the lengt h of each message.
