Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or UIM card and battery , If the device is on, press and hold [ 1 ] and select Po we r off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you remov e the back cover .
Assembling 12 The antenna is loca ted in the upper area on the back of the device. Do not r emove the protective tape co vering the antenna, as this can damage the ant enna. If you do not inser t a SIM or UIM card , you can only use your device ’ s non-network ser vices and some menus.
Assembling 13 Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables . Unauthorised chargers or cables can cause batteries to explode or damage your device . When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w battery message.
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter into a pow er 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charg ing, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the touch screen ma y ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 3 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins. W he n t he ba tt ery is fu ll y c har ge d, fi rs t unp lu g t he US B 4 cable from the device and then fr om the PC.
Assembling 16 Open the cov er of the memor y card slot. 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Close the memor y card co ver . 4 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmoun t SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Er ase everything .

If you turn on your device for the first time , follow the on-scr een instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold [ ] and then selec t P ower off → OK .

Getting star ted 25 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the idle screen. F rom the idle screen, you can view indicat or icons, widgets, shor tcuts to applications , and other items. The idle screen has multiple panels .
Getting star ted 26 Mov e items on the idle screen › T ap and hold an item to move un til the item appears gray . 1 Drag the item to the loca tion you want . 2 Remov e items from the idle screen › T ap and hold an item to remov e. 1 The trash bin appears at the bott om of the idle screen.
Getting star ted 27 › Add or r emove panels t o the idle screen Y ou can add or remov e panels of the idle screen to organise widgets accor ding to your pref erences and needs . In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → Edit . Y ou can also place your two fingers on the scr een and pinch to switch to E dit mode.
Getting star ted 28 Select an application. 3 When you use applications pr ovided by Google, you ● must have a Google acc ount. If you do not have a Google account, sig n up for a Google acc ount. Y ou can add a shor tcut to an application b y tapping ● and holding the application icon fr om the application list.

Getting star ted 30 C ustomise your devic e Get more from y our device by customising it to match y our pref erences. Set the current time and dat e › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Da te and time . Set the time and date and change other options.
Getting star ted 31 Change y our ringtone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Sound → Phone ringt one ( CDMA) or Phone ringtone ( GSM) .
Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set screen lock → P attern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt er n by dragg ing your finger to c onnec t at least 3 4 dots and select Continue .
Getting star ted 33 Select 2 CDMA → L o ck UIM Car d , or selec t GSM → L oc k SIM card . Enter y our PIN and select 3 OK . Once the PIN lock is enabled, y ou must enter the PIN each time you turn on the device . If you enter an incorr ec t PIN too many times , your ● SIM or UIM card will be blocked .
Getting star ted 34 Change the names and icons of the SIM or UIM car ds In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Dual standby setting → Regist er Card . Select a SIM or UIM card. 2 Select the icon and change the icon for the SIM or UIM 3 ca rd.
Getting star ted 35 Continue until y ou have finished the wor d. 2 Release the finger on the last character . 3 When the wor d displays correctly , select 4 to insert a space. If the corr ect word does not display , select an alternative w ord from the list that appears .
Getting star ted 36 Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Acc ess the sw ype tip screen; Open the help information (tap and hold). 3 Switch between S ymbol mode and ABC/ Number mode. 4 Inser t a space. 5 Clear your input. 6 Star t a new line. 7 Enter text by v oice.

Getting star ted 38 C opy and paste t ex t › While you ar e entering text, you can use the copy and paste featur e to use text in other applications. Place the cursor on the te xt you want to cop y . 1 Select 2 . Select 3 or . Drag 4 or to select the text you want.
Getting star ted 39 Install an application › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Market . Select 2 Accept when the terms and conditions appear . Search for a file or applica tion and download it. 3 Uninstall an application › F rom the Android Market home screen, press [ 1 ] → My Apps .
Getting star ted 40 T o download files from the w eb, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Internet . Search for a file or applica tion and download it. 2 T o install applications downloaded from w ebsites other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sour ces → OK .
Getting star ted 41 Activat e automatic sync › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Aut o-sync . Select an account. 3 Select the applications you want to synchronise . 4 T o exclude applications fr om automatic synchronisation, clear the check box es nex t to the applications y ou want.
Communication 42 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Make or answ er a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end , or reject calls.
Communication 43 Answ er a c all When a call comes in, drag 1 right until it reaches the dot. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag left until it reaches the dot .
Communication 44 Use options during a call › Y ou can use the follo wing options while a call is in progr ess: T o adjust the voice v olume, press the V olume key up or ● down. T o place a call on hold, select ● Hold . T o retrieve a held call , select Unhold .
Communication 45 Use additional f eatures › Y ou can use various other call-relat ed featur es, such as F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode or call diverting. Set auto rejection Use auto r ejec tion to reject calls from certain numbers automatically .
Communication 46 Set call for war ding Call diverting is a network feature t o send incoming calls to another number that you specify . Y ou can set this feature separately f or several conditions when you ar e not able to answer calls , such as when you ar e already on the phone or when you ar e outside of the ser vice area.
Communication 47 In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → C all settings → V oice call . Select 2 CDMA or GSM . Select 3 Call waiting . F or a CDMA network, selec t 4 Enable → OK . V iew call logs › Y ou can view logs of your calls filter ed by their types.

Add r ecipients of your message. 2 Enter phone numbers manually , separating them with a ● semicolon or a comma. Select phone numbers from the lists by selecting ● options under the recipient field .

Communication 51 Organise email by labels › Y ou can organise your email b y labelling your messages. Y ou can sor t messages by label filter . Add a label to a message F rom the Inbox screen, tap and hold a message . 1 Select 2 Change labels . Select a label to add and selec t 3 OK .
Communication 52 Send an email message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Email → an email account. Pr ess [ 2 ] → C ompose . Select 3 Con tac ts . Y ou can enter an email addr ess manually or select one from the logs or con tact groups by selecting another option.

Entertainment 55 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos. Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2048 x 1536 pix els (3.2 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels . T o use this featur e, you must first inser t a memor y card .

Entertainment 60 Record a video › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view . 2 Select 3 to switch to the camc order . Aim the lens at the subject and make any necessary 4 adjustments.

Connectivity 91 C onnec tivit y Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing information over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam inf ormation with Bluetooth.
Connectivity 92 F ind and pair with other Bluetooth- enabled › devices In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → W ireless and networ ks → Bluet ooth settings → Scan devices .
