5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section helps you to qui ckly start using your phone. Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manual generally foll ow the features of your phone.
Getting Started 6 SIM Card Y our phone uses a 4G L TE SIM (S ubscriber Identity Module). The 4G L TE SIM is a small, rectangula r plastic card that stores your phone number , information abou t your wireless service, and other information such as messages and contacts.
7 Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable, standard L i-Ion battery . A Wall/USB Charger (Cha rging Head and USB cable) are included with the phone, for charging the battery . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 8 Batter y Co ver The battery is under a removable co ver on the back of the phone. Remo ving the batter y cov er 䊳 Pull up using the slot provided , while lifting the cover off the phone.
9 Charging the Batter y Y our phone comes with a Wall /USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) to charge your phone from any 110/220 V AC outlet. Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 10 T ur ning Y our Phone On and Off T ur ning Y ou r Phone On 䊳 Press and hold the Pow er/Lock Key for a few seconds, until the start-up sequence begins. While powering on, the phone connects with the network, then displays the Home screen and active alerts .
11 Setup W izard The first time you turn your pho ne on, the Setup Wizard will prompt you to customize your phone. F ollow the prompts to set: 1. Language : Choose a language for yo ur phone’ s opera tions. 2. Phon e activ atio n : Setup Wizard checks your phone’ s sta tus.

13 T ask Manager Y our phone can run applicatio ns simultaneously , with some applications running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which applications are running on your phone, and to end running applications to exte nd battery life. Y ou can also uninstall applications from your phone and see how much memory is used by applications.
Getting Started 14 Memory Card Y our phone supports removable microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards of up to 32GB ca pacity , for storage of music, pictures, and othe r files. Note: Y ou can only store music files tha t you own (from a CD or purchased with the phone) on a memory card.

Understanding Y our Phone 24 Home Screen The Home screen is the starti ng point for using your phone. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this User Manual start with the phone unlocked, at the Home screen. All screen images in this manual are simulated.
25 Extended Home Screen The Home screen consist s of the Home pa nel, plus 4 panels that extend beyond the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts, wi dgets and folders. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side panels.
Understanding Y our Phone 26 Status Bar The Status Bar shows network and battery sta tus and other details. Airplane Mode Active : All wireless co mmunications are disabled. See “Airplane mode” on page 111. USB Connected : The phone is connected to a computer using a USB cable.

37 Making Calls us ing V oice Dialer Place a call by spe aking the name or numb er . 1. From the Home screen, touch Phone , then touch Voice D ialer . – or – From the Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Voice D ialer . 2. “ Listening ” displays on screen, with a prompt to speak a command.
Call Functions 38 Making Calls from Call Log Return a call, or call a number from a re cent call stored in Call log. For more information about Ca ll log, see “Call Log” on page 40. 1. From the Home screen, touch Phone . 2. T o uch the Call log tab to display recent calls.
39 Sending Calls to V oice Mail When your phone alerts you to an incoming call, you can ignore the call to send t he caller to voice mai l, or ignore the call an d send a message to the caller . Ignoring a call 䊳 T ouch and drag the Ignore puzzle pi ece to the empty space.

Contacts and Accounts 42 Section 4: Contacts and Accounts This section explains how to manage your contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our phone provides t he ability to synchronize informat ion from a variety of acco unts, including Google, a Corporate ser ver , soci al networking sites such as F ace book and T witter , and other accounts.
43 Setting Up Acco unts Set up and manage your sync hronized accounts wit h the Accounts & sync setting. For info rmation about setting up other , non-synchronized accounts, see “Configuring Email Accounts” on page 64.
Contacts and Accounts 44 Adding a Facebook account 1. From the Home screen, press the Menu Key , then touch Settings ➔ Accounts & sync ➔ Add account ➔ Facebook . 2. Enter your Email and Password, th en touch Log in. 3. Follow the prompts to comple te the setup.

47 My Profile My profile is your ow n contact re cord. Y ou can send My p rofile as a vCard via Bluetoot h or as an attachment via Gmail. Viewing My P rofile 1. From the Home screen, touch Contacts . 2. Press the Menu Key , then touch My profile to display your contact informa tion.

53 Backup Assistant Backup Assistant is a free wireless service th at saves a copy of your Contacts to a secure web site. If your phone is lost , stolen or damaged, Backup Assist ant can restore your saved contacts to a new phone, wirelessly . Y ou can schedule ba ckups to save your information manual ly or automatically .
Entering T ext 54 Section 5: Entering T ext This section describes how to en ter words, letters, punctuation and numbers when yo u need to enter text. T ex t Input Methods Y our phone offers these input methods: • Slide-out QWERTY keyboard : Slide the phone open to enter text by pressing keys on the phys ical keyboard.
55 Entering T ext Using the K eyboar d Y our phone provides a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for text entry . Slide the phone open to revea l the QWERTY keyboard. Enter characters by pressing the keys, and using the s pecial feature keys: • Press to delete characters, or press and hold to dele te an entire word.
Entering T ext 56 Entering T ext Using Swype Swype is a new way t o enter text on touch screens. Instead of touching each key, use your finger to trace over each letter of a word. For each word, place your fi nger on the first letter and gl ide to the subseq uent letters, liftin g on the last letter .
57 Configuring Swype Configure Sw ype options. • For more information, see “Swype” on page 135. • While entering text, touch the Swype settings . Note: Y ou can use Swype in Chinese, English, Korean, Vietnamese and Spanish. In Swype settings, touch Language to set the language.
Entering T ext 58 Entering T ext Using the Samsung K eypad The Samsung keypad is a custom virtual QWER TY keyboard, featuring optional XT9 predictive text. Input characters b y tapping the on-screen keys with your fi nger , or use speech rec ognition.
59 Entering T ext Using the Android Keyboard The Android Keyboard is a custom virtua l QWER TY keybo ard, featuring predic tive text. In put characters by tapping the onscreen keys with your finge r , or use speech rec ognition. As you enter characters, predic tive te xt matches your key touches to common words and displays them.
Entering T ext 60 Editing T ext Use the text selection t ools to select text or position a c ursor for inserting text, th en use the editing tools to select, cut, copy a nd paste text. Note: Some applications do not support editing, or may offer other ways to select and modify text.
61 Section 6: Messaging This section describes how to se nd and receive messages, and other features associ ated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our phone supports these types of messages: • T ext messages : Send and receive simple messages containing text to other mobile phones or email addres ses (also known as SMS).

Messaging 66 Gmail Setting Up Y our Gmail Account The first time you launch Gmail, your phone will prompt you to set up your Google account. 1. From t he Home screen, select Applications ➔ Gmail . 2. Follow the prompts to sign in , or create a new account.
67 IM Use IM to send and receive i nstant me ssages via popular services. Note: Create the Instant Messaging account on your PC before accessing it with your phone. Important!: IM operates over the Verizon Wireless network only . Instant Messages are sent as text (SMS) messages.
Messaging 68 Visual V oice Mail Use Visual Voice Mail to view vo ice mail details right on your phone. Y ou can choose messages to retrieve, without list ening to all messages. Note: Visual Voice Mail requires a subscription. The first time you launch Visual Voice Mail, you’ll be prompted to subscribe.
69 Section 7: W eb Browser Y our phone is equipped with a full HTML Browser , which allows you to access the internet. 䊳 From the Home screen, select Browser . Navigating th e w eb Command K eys • Press the Back Key to return to the previous page.
Web 70 Using Bro wser Windows Y ou can have multiple windo ws open at one time, and you can switch between windows. 1. From t he Home screen, select Browser . 2. T o open a new window, press the Menu Key , then touch New window . 3. T o s witch to another open window , press the Menu Key , then touch Windows .
71 Google Search Use Google to search the Web, and for content on your phone. Tip: Google Search is available as a widget. For more information about Widgets, see “Adding Widgets to the Home screen” on page 29. 1. From the Home screen, press the Search Key .
Web 72 Latitude Use Google Latitud e to locate your friends on a map, and share or hide your location. 䊳 From the Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Latitude . Naviga tion Use Google Navigati on to search for locations, and get turn-by- turn directions.
73 Section 8: Music Music Player Music Player plays songs from an installed memor y card. Note: SRS CS Headphone™ delivers a 5.1 surround sound experience over standard headphones or earbuds when listening to multichannel content, such as DVD movies.
Music 74 4. During playback, use the sound and playlist controls: •V o l u m e : T ouch to activ ate on-scre en volume c ontrol, then to uch and drag on th e scale to set volume. Y ou can also pre ss the Volum e Key on t he side of the phone to adjust playback vol ume.
75 Adding multiple songs to a playlist 1. From the Home screen, select Applications ➔ Music Player . 2. Press the Menu Key ➔ Add to playlist . 3. T ouch songs to select them, or touch Select all . When selected, a checkmark a ppears in the checkbox.
Music 76 Manage and Transfer Media Y our phone is compatible with V CAST TM Media Mana ger . The desktop application, of fered free by Verizon Wireless, allows you to transfer photos, music and videos betw een your phone and computer .

79 Camcorder Use your phone’ s built-in Camcorder to record video. 䊳 From the Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Came ra ➔ Mode . Important!: Do not take take videos of people without their permission. Do not take videos in places where cameras are not allowed.

83 Section 10: Connections Y our phone includes features to connect to the internet and to other devices. Wi -F i Wi-Fi ® is a wireless networking technology that provides access to local area networks. Wi-Fi communication requires access to an existing Wireless Access Point (WAP).
Connections 84 T ur ning Wi-Fi On or Off When you turn Wi-Fi ® se r vice on , your phone automatically searches for availabl e, in-range WAPs (Wireless Access Points). 1. From the Ho me screen, press the Menu Key , then touch Settings ➔ Wireless & networks ➔ Wi-Fi settings .
85 Addi ng a Wi-F i Network using WPS Some wireless access po ints provide connections via th e Wi-Fi ® Protected Setup (WPS) standard, which provid es easy and secure setup and connection. T o use the your phone’ s WPS setting, the wireless access point must support WPS.
