EVDO/2G : Indicates your phone is using the EVDO 2G protocol. SSL : Indicates the secure socket layer is active transmits your communica tions over the inter net in an encryp ted format.

Important: Alth ough the phone can be used while the battery is charging, the battery must be fully charged be fore first use , ot herwise you could damage the battery .

32 Section 3 Making a Call 1. At the standb y screen, enter the n umber you want to call using the keypad . 2. Press . Making Calls Using Contacts Contacts are entries that you create to store names, numbers, and other information for people or groups of interest.

Answering Call-Waiting Calls • When you receive a call while on a call, the Incoming screen displays. Y ou can press and answer the new call or let the new call go to your voicemail.

Section 3: Call Functions 37 Roaming Section 3 Roaming What is Roaming Y our phone can roam on other digital networks. Roaming occurs when y ou travel outside a pr e- designated coverage area. The roaming icon displays when roaming is active and extra charges may apply when making or receiving calls.

V oice Signal software automatically voice activates all contacts for voice dialing and searching, no pr e-recor ding or training needed. Speak phone numbers naturally to dial, and use voice commands to launch applications and navigate phone menus.

42 Section 3 • If you make a mistake while recording a sequence of digits, or if there is an unexpected noise th at spoils the recording, re- record that sequence. • Only ada pt digits if y ou regularly ha ve problems with digit dialing. Once adapted, digit d ialing will not work as well for other people using your phone.

66 Section 6 Opening Contacts Menu The Contacts menu provides access to powe rful features such as adding Gro ups, creating and se nding V -c ards, and viewing the phone number assigned to your phone by V erizon W ireless. 1. In standby mode, press Menu .

If you or someone else has comple ted adaptation earlier , the phone will ask if you wan t to start from scratch or contin ue adapting the existing models.
Section 7: Messaging 95 Creating a T ext Message Using VoiceMode Section 7 1. In standby mode, pre ss and hold the 0 key at the bottom of the keypad. 2. Press the left soft key Settings then press VoiceMode. 3. Press Reset VoiceMode. 4. When prompted, press the key to reset adapta tion, or Cancel to exit without resettin g t he adapta tion data.
96 Section 7 4. At the end of the tuto rial, you can ch oose whether or not to show the tutorial again the next time you use VoiceMode. Press after you have made your selection. Y ou will be pl aced back into the text message editor , with VoiceMode selected as the i nput mode.
Section 7: Messaging 97 Creating a T ext Message Using VoiceMode Section 7 2. After you hear “Say a Command, ” say “Send T e xt” followed by a n ame from your contact list or a vali d phone number . For example, you could say “Send T ext John Smith” or “Send T ext 555 1212.
98 Section 7 dictation dictionary . In this case, you can spell out the word manual ly . When you spell a wor d that is not part of the dictation dictionary , the new wor d is added to the dictionary . This enables V oiceMode to recognize the new word the next time it is spoken.
Section 7: Messaging 99 Changing Message Settings Section 7 2. Dictate the word you want to appear in the specified case. Changing the text case will apply to all the words spoken directly after spec ifying the case. Y ou must manually change the case back to the de fault.
