3 1 Introduction The Symbol Multi Channel System reflects our passion for creating l oudspeakers tha t capture the imagination, and accurately reproduce the three -dimensional space o f modern film soundtra cks as well as discreet multi -channel musica l recordings.
4 2 Symbol Subwoofer Introduction Your Avalon MultiChannel Systems loudspeak ers were shipped in heavily padded cardboard containers to ensure their safe arrival. It is recommended to save these containers for possib le future use. At least tw o people are required to lift t he Subwoofer from the shipping contai ner.
5 Signal Input Left and right balanc ed and sin gle -ended in puts are provided. Most 5.1 surround sound processors provide a singl e subw oofer output connection. T his may be either single ended or balanced. Onl y ONE (left or right) of th ese connections n eeds to be utilized for proper performanc e.
6 3 Center Channel Mounting 1. For mount ing to Symbol Subwoofer, remov e four bl ack bolt s from top surface of subwoofer cabin et. 2. Locate Center Channel / M ounting Bracket assembly ov er t he four m ounting holes as shown in Figure 3 .1. DO NOT DIS ASSEMBLE CENTER CHANNEL F ROM BRACKET.
7 Adjustment 1. Both large bla ck knob s must be loosened in order to tilt the Center Channel up or down. NOTE : When the press ure b earing has been loosened the Cent er Channel will tend to remain in its previously locked p osition. I t may be necessar y to a pply pressure in order to tilt the Center Channel t o a new position.
8 4 Low Frequency Fine Tuning The S ymbol Subw oofer will produce p rodigious quantities of l ow freque ncy energy wit h accurate phase and transient response . Any thickness or overhang in the low frequency presentat ion w ill be ea sily discern able and is the direct result of i mproper setup.
9 MODE SETTINGS There are two mode setti ngs: THE ATER a nd HIFI . Depressing the MODE b utton t oggles between the tw o setti ngs. The appropria te LED will be illuminated, sig nifying t he mode in use.

11 5 Maximize MultiChannel Performance Break- in The b reak-in peri od is critical to maximi zing sonic performance a nd shoul d t ake place before ot her adjustment s (see t he disc ussion on page 14 ). The brea k-i n should begin with three t o six hours of quiet music, f ollowed by 100 to 150 hours of l oud and dynamic source material .
12 Toe- In Adjusting the toe- in an gle of the speakers is useful in tailoring th e sound to b est matc h the characteristics of your system and li stening room . When the speakers are facing straight forward, they t end t o create a large, expa nsive sound -st age, painted with b road brush strokes .

14 6 Break-in Period Your new Avalon MultiChannel Systems loudspeakers ha ve an ini tial break -in period. They will not perform to their full sonic potentia l when first installed in you r system. This is partially due to a resid ual polarizat ion of t he di electric material s used in t he crossover capacitors and i nternal wiri ng.
15 7 Care of Your Loudspeakers Cabinet (Hardwood Finis h) Avalon MultiChann el Systems’ hardwood finished loudspeakers are supp lied with a durable, high quality furnit ure lacq uer. Always u se a clean, lint -free cloth to c lean your cabinet , a nd be especially careful near t he loudspea ker drivers, so as n ot to damage the diaph ragms.
16 8 Warranty Your Avalon Multi Channel Systems SYMBOL SERI ES loudspeaker s are w arrant ed aga inst defects in w orkmanship an d mat erials for a period of tw o years from the date of first purchase.
