Assembling 10 Inser t the SIM or USIM card . 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-colored contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-net work services and some menus.
Assembling 11 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pr ovided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 12 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a pow er 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . Assembling 13 Inser t a memory card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, y ou must inser t a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 14 Lift the memor y card co ver and inser t a memory card. 3 Be careful not to damage your ngers when you open the memory card cover . Close the memory card cover . 4 Y our device supports only the F A T le structure for • memory cards.
Assembling 15 Remove the memory card and close the memory card 3 c o v e r. Do not remove a memory card while the device is transferring or accessing inf ormation, as this could result in loss of data or damage to the memory card or device.

Getting started 22 Ac cess menus T o access your device ’ s menus, In Idle mode, press the Menu key to access Menu 1 mode. Scroll left or right to a main menu screen. 2 Y ou can also select a dot on the top of the screen to move to the corr esponding main menu screen directly .
Getting started 23 › Organize applications in Menu mode Y ou can reorganize the applica tions in Menu mode by changing their order or grouping them in to categories to suit your prefer ences and needs. In Idle mode, press the Menu key to access Menu 1 mode.
Getting started 24 Launch and manage applications › Launch multiple applications Y our device allows y ou to multi-task by running multiple applications at the same time. T o launch multiple applications, press the Menu key to return to the main menu and select an application to launch.
Getting started 25 › Open the widget toolbar T o open the widget toolbar and access widgets, In Idle mode, select 1 Widget at the t op lef t of the screen to open the widget toolbar . Read the widget disclaimer and select Accept 2 (if necessary). Scroll left or right on the widget toolbar to nd the 3 widget you want to use .

Getting started 27 › A djus t t he v ibr ati on int ensi ty o f t he touch screen Y ou can adjust the intensity of the vibration feedback that results when you tap the device scr een. In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → General → T ouch . Drag the slider under 2 Vibr ation feedback to adjust the intensity of the vibration.
Getting started 28 › Select a wallpaper for the idle screen In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display and light → W allpaper . Select an image. 2 T o select an image from the image folder , select the folder . Select 3 Set . Samsung is not responsible for any use of default images or wallpapers provided on your devic e.
Getting started 29 The rst time you access a menu that r equires a password, y ou will be prompted to create and conrm a password. Once the device lock is enabled, you must en ter the password each time you turn on the device . If you forget your passw ord, bring your device to a • Samsung Ser vice Cen ter to unlock it.
Getting started 30 Select 4 Recipients to open the recipient list. Enter a phone number including a country code 5 (with + ). When you are nished setting the r ecipients, select 6 OK . Select the sender input eld. 7 Enter a sender’ s name. 8 Select 9 Save → Accept .
Getting started 31 Number F unction 4 Clear your input. 5 Start a new line. 6 Change the input language; Access the keyboard settings (tap and hold). T o change the text input method, tap and hold and select Keyboard type → a text input method. Option F unction Keypad Select characters on the keypad.
Getting started 32 When entering text with the keypad, you can use the following modes: Mode Function ABC Select an appropriate virtual key until the character you want appears on the display . T9 (Predictive text) In ABC mode, tap and hold 1. and select Predictive text .
Getting started 33 Copy and past e text While you are ent ering text, you can use the copy and paste feature t o use tex t in other applications. T ap and hold the text input eld until 1 appears. Select 2 Select from the option list. Drag your nger across the te xt and stop at highlight 3 starting point.

Communication 35 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. › Make and answer a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when y ou make, accept, end or r ejec t calls.
Communication 36 › Use the headset By plugging the supplied headset into the device, y ou can make and answer calls: T o redial the last call, press the headset butt on, and then • press and hold the button. T o answer a call, press the headset butt on.
Communication 37 T o dial a second call, place the rst call on hold and then • dial a new number . T o answer a second call, select • New call when a call waiting tone sounds. The rst call is automatically placed on hold. Y ou must subscribe to the call waiting service to use this feature .
Communication 38 T o zoom in or out, select • → Zoom . The zoom feature is a vailable only when you are using the r ear camera. T o apply the blur eect to your image, select • → Blur eect or tap and hold your image and select Blur eect .
Communication 39 Make a fake call Y ou can simulate incoming calls when you w ant to get out of meetings or unwanted con versations. T o activate the hot key to make fake calls, in Menu mode, select Settings → Applications → Call → F ake call → F ake call hot key .
Communication 40 Use F ixed Dialing Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the SIM or USIM card. Y ou must rst set up your FDN list in the phonebook to use FDN mode. T o activate FDN mode, In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Security → F ixed dialing mode .
Communication 41 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network featur e to alert you of an incoming call while you are on a pr evious call. This feature is available only for v oice calls. In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Applications → Call → V oice call → Call waiting .
Communication 42 Select an option you want. 2 Option F unction Call duration Vi ew t ime dat a fo r yo ur ca lls , s uch as the duration of the last call and the total duration of all calls. Message counter View the number of messages you have sent or rec eived.
Communication 43 Select 5 Send to send the message. If you decide not to send a message immediately , • you can save it t o the draft folder for future use . If an error occurs while you ar e sending a message, • it will be saved in the outbox so y ou can tr y to resend it later .
Communication 44 When you are nished , select 4 Save . In Menu mode, select 5 Messages → → Settings → Multimedia messages → Multimedia message proles . Select a connection prole 6 → Set . › Send a multimedia message 1 In Menu mode, select Messages → Compose .

Communication 47 Email › Set up an email account and pr ole In addition to the email account pr edened by your service provider , you can add your personal email accoun ts. Also , you can add your own connection prole f or using email services.
Communication 48 Option F unction POP3 port/ IMAP4 port Enter the port number of the incoming server . Secure connection Select a security protocol for the incoming server . Select an email prole 1 In Menu mode, select Email → → Settings → Email proles .
Communication 49 Vie w an email message › 1 In Menu mode, select Email → an account. Scroll to the inbox. 2 Select 3 → Download . Select an email or a header .
Communication 50 After customising the server setting, select the dot 3 next to data types to synchronize. For synchr onizing emails and calendar events, you can set the sync interval. T o synchronize your emails , In Menu mode, select 1 Email → the Exchange server account.
Communication 51 IM Learn to chat with friends and family from an y of the universal instant messengers, such as Google T alk, Windows Liv e M essenger , and Y ahoo M essenger . In Menu mode, select 1 IM . Select a messenger . 2 Enter your username and passwor d to sign in.
Entertainment 52 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can take photos at resolutions up to 2560 x 1920 pix els (5 mega pixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 1280 x 720 pixels. Phot os are saved in jpg format and videos are sav ed in mp4 format.
Entertainment 53 Number F unction 7 Change the focus mode; Y ou can take close-up photos or set the camera to focus on the subject or focus on human faces automatically . 8 Adjust the brightness; Select + to increase or – to decr ease. 9 View the photo or video you captur ed last.

Make any necessary adjustments. 4 Press the Camer a key to take a photo. 5 › Capture a photo in Smile shot mode Y our camera can recognise people ’ s faces and help you take photos of their smiling faces. In Idle mode, press the Camera key to turn on the 1 camera.
Entertainment 56 › Capture a panor amic photo Y ou can take wide panoramic photos using P anorama shooting mode. This mode is convenient f or photographing landscapes. In Idle mode, press the Camera key to turn on the 1 camera. Rotate the device counter clock wise to landscape view .
Entertainment 57 › Customiz e camera settings Before taking a photo, select → to access the following options: Option F unction Outdoor visibility Activate Outdoor visibility to select an appropriate lighting condition. Timer Select the length of the delay before the camera takes a photo .
Entertainment 58 Before taking a photo, select → to access the following settings: Setting Function Guidelines Display guidelines on the preview screen. Review Set the camera to display the captured image. GPS connection Set the camera to include location information for y our photos.

The contact is saved to the fa vorite number list. T o add the number to your list of fav orites, select a contact from Contacts and then select nex t to the contact name.
