Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and battery , If the device is on, press and hold the P ower key and select 1 P ower off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you remov e the back cover .
Assembling 12 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time, you must char ge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables .
Assembling 13 Charge with a tr avel adapt er › Plug the small end of the trav el adapter into the 1 multifunction jack . Connecting the trav el adapter improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused b y misuse is not cov ered by the warranty .
Assembling 14 When the battery is fully charged, first unplug the tra vel 3 adapter from the devic e and then from the power outlet. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the travel adapter . D oing this may cause damage to the devic e. T o save ener gy , unplug the trav el adapter when not in use.
Assembling 15 Samsung uses approv ed industr y standards for memor y cards , but some brands may not be fully c ompatible with your device . Using an incompatible memor y card may damage your devic e or the memor y card and can corrupt data stor ed on the card.
Assembling 16 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al. In Idle mode, select 1 → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . Remove the back co ver . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from the 3 device.

If you turn on your device f or the first time, follow the on-scr een instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold the P ower key and then select Po wer off → OK .

Getting star ted 25 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the idle screen. F rom the idle screen, you can view indicat or icons, widgets, shor tcuts to applications , and other items. The idle screen has multiple panels .
Getting star ted 26 Remov e items from the idle screen › T ap and hold an item to remov e. 1 The trash bin appears at the bott om of the idle screen.
Getting star ted 27 Add or r emove panels by using the follo wing features: 2 T o remov e a panel, tap and hold the thumbnail of a ● panel and drag it to the trash bin a t the bottom of the screen. T o add a new panel, select ● . T o change the order of the panels, tap and hold the ● thumbnail of a panel and drag it to the location y ou want.
Getting star ted 28 Organise applications › Y ou can reorganise the applica tions in the application list by changing their order or g rouping them into categories to suit your pr efer ences and needs. In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit → OK .
Getting star ted 29 Ac cess rec ent applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to view the applications you 1 have ac cessed recently . Select an application to access. 2 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time .
Getting star ted 30 T urn on or off the touch tone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Sound → A udible selec tion . Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringtone volume .

Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set up screen lock → Pa ttern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt er n by dragg ing your finger to c onnec t at least 3 4 dots and select Continue .
Getting star ted 33 Once the PIN lock is enabled, y ou must enter the PIN each time you turn on the device . If you enter an incorr ec t PIN too many times , your SIM ● or USIM card will be blocked . Y ou must enter a PIN unlock key (PUK ) to unblock the SIM or USIM card .
Getting star ted 34 Enter t ex t Y ou can enter te xt by selecting charac ters on the vir tual keypads or by inputting handwriting on the screen. Y ou cannot enter te xt in some languages. T o enter text, you should change the writing language to one of the suppor ted languages.

When the wor d displays correctly , 3. select to insert a space. If the correct word does not displa y , selec t and an alternative w ord from the list that appears.
Getting star ted 38 Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait k eypad types and selec t a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or 3x4 keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen.
Getting star ted 39 Number F unction 6 Star t a new line. 7 Inser t a space. Enter t ext using the Swype keypad › Select the first charac ter of a wor d and drag your finger 1 to the second character without r eleasing the finger from the screen. Continue until y ou have finished the wor d.

Search for a file or applica tion and download it. 2 T o install applications downloaded from w ebsites other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sour ces → OK .
