7 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configuring your hardware, activating your service, and then setting up your V oicemail.
Getting Started 8 R emo ving the Ba tter y 䊳 Lift up (1) and remove (2) the batter y . In stal li ng th e SIM Car d Important !: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts information can be easily dama ged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card.
9 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot. R e placing th e Batter y 1. Slide th e batter y in to the comp artment so th a t the t abs on the en d align with the slots at the botto m of the phone.

Getting Started 12 Char ging a Batte r y Y our phone is powered by a recharge able Lithium i on batter y . A wall ch arger , which is used for charging the batter y , is inc luded with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask yo ur local Samsung dealer for further details.
13 2. Plug the adapter’ s power plug into a standard AC wall outlet. 3. When charging is finished, fi rst unplug the adapter’ s po wer plug from th e AC wall outlet an d then disconnect the wall charger’ s conn ector from the phone.

Rece iv er allows you to hear the other caller and the different ring tone s or sounds offered by your phone.
17 4. P ower -on/Off (Exit) key ends a call. Press and hold for two seconds to turn the phone on or off. While in the Menu mode, it returns th e phone to the Home screen and cancels your inp ut. 5. Menu k ey when pressed, displays the Main menu screen.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 4. P ower/Accessor y Interf ace connector allows yo u to connect a power cable or o ptional accessories such as a USB/data cable or a hands-free headse t for convenient, hands-free conversations.
19 Unlockin g the Phone When you first turn on the device the screen is lo cked (as shown) and displays the Smart unlo ck guide (see “Smart Unlock” on page 178.) Press and hold the lock icon on the si de of the p hone or draw a character to unlock the phone.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 Icons This list identifies the sy mbols that appear on your phone’ s display screen: Displays the received signal strength. Th e grea ter the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays wh en you are out o f your service area.
21 Bac klight A backlight illumina tes the i nternal display and the keypad. When you pre ss any key , the backlight turns on. Backlight turns off when no keys ar e press ed or pressed within a give n period of time , depending on the Backlight menu setting.

23 Section 3: Displays This section explain s the widget and men u navigation for your phone. It also inc ludes an ou tline of al l the availabl e menus associated with your phone. Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using the applications or widgets on your phone.
Displays 24 Cust omizi ng th e Home Scr een Y ou can customize the Home sc reen b y docking widgets on dif ferent panels of the Ho me screen, or selecting a new wallpaper so you can easily distinguish between each of the in dividual panels. Selecting a New Wallpaper There are se veral sources a vaila ble fo r wallpapers.
25 W idget Mana ger The Widget manager allo ws you to select widgets to display in the Widget bar . Y ou can select widgets that function offlin e or widgets t ha t funct ion online (such as MyAccount , web2go, and more).

27 Ope ning a n Appl icat ion The Home screen is the firs t screen displayed. The Main Functions menu displays afte r you select the Menu icon. T o open an a pplica tion fr om the main menu: 1. T ap the associated i con. 2. Press the Back icon to return to the main menu.

Navigation 38 Bluetooth From this application you can ac ti vate Bluetoot h and configure it so othe r Bluetooth devices can see your device by name. 䊳 From the Home screen, open the Widget tray and touch, drag and drop, then tap the Bluetooth icon to la unch the Bluetooth a pplication.
39 Digital Clock The display shows th e current time on a digita l clock. 䊳 From the Home screen, open the Widget tray and touch, drag and drop the Digital c lock onto the desk top to view the time in a digi tal forma t. Fo r more informa t ion, refer to “Digit al Clock” on pa ge 135.
Navigation 40 Google Maps Google Maps allow you to track your current location, view real-time traffic issues, and view detailed desti nation di rections. There is al so a search tool included to help you locate places of inte rest or a specifi c addre ss.
41 W idget Memo This fe a ture allows you to create a me mo. 1. F rom the Home screen, open the Widget tray and tap the Memo widget. 2. Ta p t h e Memo widget again to insert a memo, t hen touch Done . Message Inbo x The Message Inbox stores received me ssages.
Navigation 42 Music Play er When you first view the Music Player applica tion, the Music library screen displays th e following: • Cu rre nt play lis t • Al l tracks • Playlists • Artists • Al bums • Re cent ly pla yed From this screen you ca n play your music files.
43 Social Buzz This menu item lets you log in to your social networking appl ications (T witter , Facebook, or MySpace) a nd get automati c status updates for each of these applications. Importa nt!: Charges may apply when using social network appl ications.
Navigation 44 T oday This menu displays the current day and da te. 䊳 T ouch, drag and drop the T o day ico n onto th e desktop to view th e current Day and Date.
45 W eat her Provides weather information and alerts so you can cop e with the elem ents. Enter t he zip code for the area whe re you are loca ted to ac tivate the alerts. 1. F rom the Home scre en, open the Wi dget tray and touch, drag and drop the Wea t he r widget onto the Home screen.

49 Scrolling The Widget bar contains up to 25 wi dgets, bu t can only display fi ve widget icons at one time. T o view more widgets: 䊳 Swipe up an d down along the Wid get bar . Ti p: Flick the screen in an upward motion to quickly scroll through the list.

Call Functions 52 R edialing the Last Numb er The phone stores the numbers of the calls yo u have dia led, received, or m issed if the caller i s identified.
53 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of contro l functions that a re av ailable for use during a call. T ur nin g the Speaker p hone on and of f While o n a call, you c an use yo ur Speakerphone by pressing the Speaker icon to turn the speake rphone on or off.
Call Functions 54 Viewing the Call log During a call you can touch the Call log icon to view All calls , All , Missed ca lls , or Outgoing calls . This feature might be useful if, during a call, you want to add another contact to a mult iparty call. 1.
55 Accessing the Contacts During a Call Y ou can search for a number in Contacts during a call. 1. T o uch t he Contacts icon to access the Cont act lists. 2. Press when you are finished. Endi ng a Cal l 1. Briefly press to end the call. – or – 2.
Call Functions 56 T o view a missed cal l immedia tely: 1. If the di splay is off, p ress the Lock key to turn the display on. The misse d calls display on the screen on the Missed Calls tab. 2. Press to call the displayed number . Ti p: Y ou can press at any time to exit the Missed Call feature.
57 Delete Pressing this key al lows y ou to delete the records in each c all rec ord separately , or y ou can delete all of your cal l records at one t ime. 1. T o uch the check box besi de the number in the Delete list to delete or select the Select all check box and touch the Dele te soft key .

Call Functions 60 Say a Com mand Op tions • Call <Name or #> : dials a name or numb er listed in your contact list. If mul tiple numbers exist (i.e. ho me, work, or other) say the name and the number type (location). • Send T ext <Name or #> : displays th e Crea te T ext Message screen.
61 Contacts V o ice Activation On startup, Nuance reads y our Contac ts and v oice-activa tes all the names. When you h ave add or change cont acts, Nuance a utomatically reload s and voice -activates the li st when you add or modify a contact. Name Dialing T o use Name Di al, you need ent ries stored in your Contacts.
Call Functions 62 Name Lookup T o perform a name lookup, you will need to have some en tri es i n your C ont act list . T o access Voice: 1. F rom the Home screen, press then touch Applications ➔ V oice recogni t ion . After a brief pause, a list of available comm ands displays on the screen along with the “ Say a command ” message.
63 Checki ng Ph one Status Use the Check command to se e and hear status information from your phone, inc luding its phone number , sta tus, current signal s trength, and ba tter y level. T o check phone status: 1. F rom the Home screen, press then touch Applications ➔ V oice recognition .
Call Functions 64 Adaptation If Nuance frequently does no t recognize your commands, adap ting digit dialing to your voice improves the accurac y of digit. After you ada pt Digit Dial, your phone recognizes only your vo ice. Othe r users are not ab le to use the handset with Nuance unless the handset is reset to fact ory defaults.

Entering T ext 66 Section 6: Entering T ext This section outlines how to se le ct the desired text inp ut mode when enteri ng characters into yo ur phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predicti ve text entr y system to reduce the nu mber of key stroke s associa ted with entering text.
67 3. Sym/shift displays pages of Symbols. Choose from an exte nsive list of symbols an d other character sets. Alt+Sym/s hift allows you t o enter the S ymbol displa yed on the ke y . Also convert s the alphabe tic character i nto uppercase. Changes the text input mode to Upper/Lo wer case mode.
Entering T ext 68 Example: Writing a text message. There are two different meth ods for changing T ext Input Mode, depending on which mode you are holding the device (portrait, or landscape). In Portrait mode a 3x 4 numeric key pad displays wi th the default set to T9Ab (predictiv e text) mode .
69 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text inpu t mode that allows you to key in any charac ter us ing single keystr okes. This text input mode is b ased on a built -in dictionary . Note: T o mode works only in Portrait mode. T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1.
Entering T ext 70 Note: This feature may not be available for some langua ges. • T o enter periods, hyphens, and oth er special characters, touch Symbols and then touch the corres ponding key . If the symbol does not display o n the initial screen, touch the left or right k ey to display the next s et of symbols.
71 Ti p: The cursor moves to the right when you touch a different key . When entering the same letter twice or a different letter on the same key , wait for a few seconds for the cursor to automatically move to the right, and then select the next letter .
