5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configuring your hardware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail.
Getting Started 6 3. Lift up and remove the battery. 4. Carefully slid e the SIM card unde r the metal bracke t and into the S I M card socket unti l the card lock s into place. Make sure that the card’ s gold contacts face into th e phone and that the upper - left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown below .
7 Reinstall the battery cover by sliding it back onto the phone until you hear it securely click. Make sure the batter y is properly installed before switchin g on the phone. Char ging a Batte r y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion batter y .
Getting Started 8 1. With the batt ery install ed, temporarily remove t he plasti c cover on the right side of the phone and plug in the travel ada pter’s connector into the jack. Important!: Verify that the handset battery is installed prior to connecting the travel adapter .
9 Switching the Phon e On or Of f 1. Press and hold the key un til the phone switches on. 2. If the phone as ks you to enter the phone password, use the keypad to en ter this password and press either the OK soft key or the key . Note: For more information, refer to “Change password” on page 110.
Getting Started 10 Accessing Y our V oice Mail Y ou can press and hold the key on the keypad or use the phone’ s menu to access your voice mail. T o access voice mail using the menu: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Voice mail and press t he Select soft key or the key .

Understanding Y our Phone 12 Open View of Y our Phone The following illustrati ons show the main elem ents of your phone: Ke ys The following list correlates to the illustrations. 1. Earpiece allows you to hear the other caller and the different ring tones or sounds offered by your phone.
13 4. Shortcut key allows you to program this key a s a shortcut to your favorite messagi ng tool. Y ou can reprogram the key at any time. 5. Send key allows you to make or answer a call. In Idle mod e, recalls the last number dial ed or received when held down.

Understanding Y our Phone 16 Display Layout Y our phone’ s display screen provides a wealth of information about your pho ne’ s status and opti ons. The display has three areas: View T ab When you receive new messages, icons di splay in two locations: on the phone’s screen, View T ab, and in the icon bar at the top of the screen.
17 Icons This list identifies the sy mbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Shows the received signal strengt h. Th e greater the numbe r of bars, the stronger the signal. Shows the level of your batter y . The more bars you see, the more power remains.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Backlight A backlight illumina tes the internal displa y and the keyp ad. When yo u press any key, the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given pe riod of time, depending on the setting within the Backlight menu.
19 Section 3: Call Functions This section de scribes how to ma ke or answer a call. It also explai ns the features and functio nality assoc iated with making or answering a call. For more informa tion on Ringtones see “Ring tone” on page 102. For more information on Call Forwarding see “Call forwarding” on page 116.
Call Functions 20 Re dialing the Last Number The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’ve diale d, received, or missed if th e caller is id entified. T o recall any of these numbers: 1. If you typed characters on the display , pr ess the key to return to Idle mode.
21 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use the Volume keys on the lef t side of the phone, to adjust the speak er volume. 䊳 Press the Up volum e key to increase the volume l evel and the Down volume key to decrease the level. In Idle mode, you can also adjust the ring vo lume using th ese keys.
Call Functions 22 The following Call Record options are a vailable: All calls This menu lets you view the 90 most rece nt calls y ou received , dialed, and missed. The name or number , if already stored in your Ph onebook, displa ys with the num ber of occurrences f or each number .

Press the Options soft key for the following options: • Send message : Allows you to s end a T ext mes sage, Sen d picture, or Audio Postcard b ack to the missed numbe r . • Save to phonebook : Stores the number in your Phon e memory (displa ys only i f the number is stor ed to the SI M card).
Call Functions 24 Call time This menu lets you view the time lo g for calls both ma de and received. Note: The actual time invoiced by T -Mobile may differ from times displayed due to network features and ser vice plan. The following time logs are available: • Last call time : shows the length of your last call .
25 Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys vary depend ing on the function you a re currently using. The labe ls on the bottom line of the display just above ea ch key indica te their current rol e. Selecting Options T o view the vari ous functions and options avai lable, you must selec t the one you want by: 1.
Call Functions 26 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functi ons that are a vailable f or use during a call. Switching off the Micr ophone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your pho ne’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you.
27 When there is an active ca ll and a call on h old, you may switch between th e two calls by placing the current held call to active and t hen placing the other call on hold . T o switch between the two calls: 1. Press the Options soft key , select Swap , and press the key .
Call Functions 28 With the Phonebook entries di splayed: 4. Enter the name that you wish to find in the textbox lo cated above the entrie s. If you enter the first few letters of the name, the Phonebook entrie s display , starting with the first entry that ma tches your input.
29 Setting up a Multi-Par ty Call 1. Call the first participan t in the normal way . 2. Press the Options soft key and select the New call option. 3. Call the second participant in th e normal way . The first call is automa tically placed on hold . 4.
Call Functions 30 Dropping One Par ticipant 1. Press the Options soft key a nd choose the Split option. Press the Select soft key or the key . The short list of call part icipants displays. 2. Highlight the person you wa nt to keep and pr ess the Select soft key or the key .
31 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associated with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of functions to your needs using me nus and sub-menus.
Menu Navigation 32 Using Shortcuts The menu items, such as menus, sub-men us, and options, are numbere d and can be accesse d quickly by using their shortcut numbers. For the main menus, p ress the corre sponding number keys (1 to 0) to access any one of the shortcuts .
33 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to select the desired text input mode wh en entering characters into your phone. This section also des cribes h ow to use the T9 pr edic tive text system to reduce the number of key s trokes associate d with entering text.
Entering T ext 34 3. Sym - displays the Sy mbols page. Choose fro m an extensive l i st of symbols a nd other character s ets. Shift - converts the alphabetic character into uppercase. Changes the text in put mode to Upper/Lo wer case mode. 4. Alt - allows you to use characters displayed at the top o f the QW ER TY keys.
35 1. Press the Right soft k ey ( ) to change the text input mode. The following opt ions are available: • T9 (English) • ABC mode • Number • Symbol 2. Enter text in the text message box using the selected text input mode when the T ext i nput mode indicator tha t you de sire di splay s.
Entering T ext 36 Example: T o enter “Hello” in T9 mode, press the 4, 3, 5, 5, and 6 keys. The word that you type displays on the sc reen. The word ma y change with ea ch consecutiv e key that you press. 2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting the keystroke s.
37 T o delete letters: 䊳 Press the key . Press and hold the key to clear the display . Note: The cursor moves to the right when you press a different key . When entering the same letter twice or a different letter on the same key , just wait for a few seconds for the cursor to automatically move to the right, and then select the next letter .
Entering T ext 38 Using Number Mode The Number mode enables you to en ter numbers into a text message. 䊳 Press the keys corresponding to the digits you want to enter . Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables yo u to insert symb ols and punctua t ion marks into text.
39 Section 6: Messages This section describes how to send or receive different types of messages . It also explains the feature s and function ality associa t ed with messaging.
Messages 40 View T ab The View T ab is an area that displays on the screen when a missed c all, picture messa ge, or voicemail is sent to the phone. There are three View ta bs that display icons: 1. T ext message 2. Missed Calls 3. Voicemail 4. Picture message 5.
41 E-mail Messages The E-mail option allo ws you to send or receive po p e-mail from AOL, Y ahoo! or yo u can select from two, other predefined broadband e-mail providers. E-mail Setup This options allows you to select t he e-mail a ccounts you want to use.
Messages 42 T ext Messages Short Message S ervice (S MS) allows yo u to send and receive short text me ssages to and from other mobile phones. In addition, your phone supports the En hanced Messa ging Service ( EMS), wh ich enables you to inc lude simple graphics, melodies, and animated images in your messages.
43 •E x i t c o m p o s e r : exits the composer a nd displays the Creat e new screen. 4. Press Send to and select o ne of the foll o wing options: • Recent recipients : allows you to select a nu mber or an ad dress from th e last 20 desti nations you e ntered.
Messages 44 Using the Picture Messaging feature, your phone can receiv e and send messages that co ntain multimedia files, such as photos, sounds and images that you downloaded from the Internet and Audio Postcard s you recorded. This function is availabl e only if it is supported by your s ervice provider .
45 7. Press the Send to soft key and sele ct one of the following opti ons: • Recent recipients : allows you to select from reci pients of your previous m essages. • Phonebook : allows y ou to ent er the phon e number you wa nt from you r phonebook.
Messages 46 • New recipient : allows y ou to manuall y enter a phone number or e-mai l address. • My Album : allows yo u to send the mess age to My Al bum. The number or addr esses selected displays in the To text box. 18. Press Send to send this Picture message.
47 • Move to phone/SIM card : allows you to move the message from the SI M card into th e phone’s me mory or from the phone onto the SIM card. De pends on where the current message was saved. •S o r t b y : allows you to sort messag es by Read/Unr ead, Date, Name, Type, Size, or Subj ect.
Messages 48 •S o r t b y : allows you to sort your messages by Read /Unread, Date, Name, T ype, Size, or Subject. •L o c k / U n l o c k : allows you to protect the message from de letion or unlock it f or deletion .
49 3. Press the Options soft key or the key to access the various opt io ns described above. 4. Press the k ey when you are finished. Listening to an A udio P ostcard fr om the Inbo x 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ In box an d press the Select soft key o r the key.
Messages 50 •C a l l b a c k : allows you to call the sender back. •F o r w a r d : allows yo u to for ward the me ssage to an other nu mber . •R e p l a y : plays back your Audio Postcard. • Save address: allows you to cut and paste t he address to send a text message , or picture message.
51 3. Highlight Edit and press the Select soft key or the key to edit the message contents. – or – 4. Press the Send to key (while viewing the message) to send the message. 5. Press to return to the Idle screen. Tip: Press the Options soft key while reading a message to select alternate options.
Messages 52 Sending a T ex t templa te 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ T emplates ➔ T ext templates and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Select a templa te from the T emplate s list and press the Vi ew soft key . The template displays on the screen.
53 Audio P ost card In this menu you can sele ct a frame, take a picture a nd then record a voice messa ge up to one minute long and send it as an Audio P ostcard. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Audio postcard and pre ss the Select soft key or the key .
Messages 54 5. Press the Stop soft key when you a re finished recording the vo ice message. 6. Press the Send key and select one of the fol lowing options: • Recent recipients : allows you to select a numb er or an address from the la st 20 destination s you entered.
55 •S e t a s : all ows you to save the vo ice note as a myFaves ringtone, Ringto ne, Indi vidual r ingtone, or Alarm t one. • Go to voice list : displays the voice list. • Delete : allows y ou to delete d this voi ce note. 6. T o send the V oice note, press Options ➔ Send in Message .
Messages 56 Management The Management menu allows you to select where your contacts are saved, delete yo ur contacts, sort by contacts, or check your memor y status. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Management and press the Select soft key or the key.
57 • Priority : you can select the priority le vel of your messages. • Expiry date : set the length of time your messages are s tored in the message center while the network attempts to de liver them. Selections are: 1 hour , 6 hours, 1 day , 1 week, or Ma ximum.
Messages 58 Memor y Status T o view the memor y stat us: 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Management ➔ Memory status and press the Sele ct soft key or the key . Y ou can view t he amount of th e allocated memory and the memory availabl e for picture me ssages.
59 2. Select the Read option and press the Select soft key or the key . 3. Select Archive to read the Broadcast me ssages that were archived. 4. Select Te m p o r a r y to read the tempor ary Broadcast messages. Receiving options This option allo ws you to determin e whether to receive o r reject Broadcast messa ges.
Messages 60 3. Highlight the language you want the broadcast messages to re ceive in and press t he key . A check mark displays beside the selected language(s) to indicate th eir selection. – or – Press the All option to rece ive broadcast messages in all lan gua ges.
61 8. When the Congratulation! e-mail setup message displays, press the OK soft key to confirm your selection. The handset restar ts after setup. E-mail Options While comp osing an E-mail, press the Options soft key for the following options: • Sign in : allows you to sign in to the s elected e-mail acco unt.
Messages 62 7. If you use Windows Live, agree to the terms and conditions of use for this service and press the I Accept soft key or the key . 8. Follow th e on-screen instru ctions to read , reply to, compose, send, and manage your Instant Messaging account.
63 Section 7: Understanding Y our Phone book This section explains how to us e and manage yo ur Phonebook. Using Contacts List Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your Phone. Storing a Numb er in the Phone’s Mem or y The default storage loca tion for sa ving phone numbers to your phonebook is y our phone’ s built-in memory .
Understanding Y our Phonebook 64 •O t h e r : allows you to enter an ad ditional phone number for t his entry. •G r o u p : allow s you to assig n this contact to a group. •N o t e s : allows you to enter addi tional i nformati on about the co ntact.
65 • Add to block list : adds the se lected contact to block (cal l) list. • Copy to phone/SIM card : copies t he selected or all of the contacts to the phone or SIM car d. Depends on where the co ntact was previously saved. • Mobile backup : allows you to vi ew the Last sync you p erforme d, or vi ew the Abou t mobile back up inf ormation.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 66 Adding a New C aller Group 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Groups and press the Select soft key or the key. 2. Press the Options soft key and selec t the Create new group option. 3. Enter a name for the new group in the Name field.
67 Editing a Caller Group 8. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Groups and press the Select soft key or the key . 9. Scroll through the group li st, highlight the group you want, and press the Options soft key . 10. Highlight Edit and press the Select soft key or the key .
Understanding Y our Phonebook 68 Speed Dialing Once you store phone numbers fr om you r Phonebook list, you can set up to 8 sp eed dial entries and then easily dial them whenever you want, by pres s ing the associated numeric key . 䊳 In Idle mode, to s peed dial the nu mbers assigned to ke ys (2 to 9), press and hold t he appropriate key .
69 4. Fill in the desired fields. 5. Press Save to save your information. Block list The Block list menu allows you to add or remove cont acts from the b l ocked list of callers. Creating a Block list 6. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Block list and press the Select soft key or the key .
Understanding Y our Phonebook 70 Vie w Contac ts This option allows you to view all the contacts stored on the SIM, Phone , or the Phone and SIM card. Default sa ving The Default saving option allows you to choose where y our contacts are saved. The following optio ns are available: – Phone : new phonebook cont acts are saved to your phone.
71 Deleting all of the Phonebook Entries Perform the following procedure t o delete al l your entries from your phone’ s memory . Import ant!: Once Phonebook entries are deleted, they cannot be recovered. 5. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Management ➔ Delete all and press the Select soft key or the key .
Understanding Y our Phonebook 72 FDN List FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by y our SIM card , allows you to re strict your outgoing ca lls to a limited set of phone numbers. The FDN List allows you to set up a list of numbers that your phone may dial.
73 Section 8: t-zones This section outlines the t- zones features available on your phone. For more info rmation, contact T -Mobile. t-zones Y our phone is equipped with a WAP (W ireless Applic ation Protoco l) browser which provides you wirel ess access and navigation to the Web using your phone.
t-zones 74 Navigating the t-zones 1. T o scroll through browser items, press the Up or Down Navigation key. 2. T o select browser items, press the key . 3. T o return to the previous page, press the Back soft key or the key . 4. Press the Back soft key until the startup Home page displays.
75 The following opti ons are availabl e: – Reload : reloads the cur rent page. – Pag e s i ze : allows you to select the page size to view (Large, Normal or Small). – Go to : navigates to the URL addre ss, Homepage, Bookmarks , Histor y , or Saved pages.
t-zones 76 6. Select a URL and press Go . Y our browser displays the site. Sav ed Pages This option displa ys a list of the pages that were saved while navigating the browser . Histor y This option prov ides you with a l ist of the most rec ently visi ted web sites.
77 Prefer ences The Preferences opti on allows you to set t-zones preferen ces such as Run JavaScript, Display images, Play sou nd, View mode, and Revalidate Cache. Cer tificates The Certificates o ption allows you to v iew internet ce rtificates. • Root Certificate : provides several root certificates from which to choose.
Fun & Apps 78 Section 9: Fun & Apps This section outlines the vario us applica tions that are availabl e on your phone. Files Files allows you to manage your so unds and images and view your memory status in on e convenient location. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Files and press the Select soft key or the key .
79 • Copy to memor y card : allows you to copy the Selected or Multip le sound(s) to the Memory card. • Rename : allows you to change the name o f the sound. • Bluetooth visibility : allows you to select one or multiple sounds to share with other Bluetooth devices.
Fun & Apps 80 Image s In this menu, you can view the list of images do wnloaded from the web ser v er , taken with the built-in camera, or received in messag es. Y ou can set an image as the curren t background im age. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Files ➔ Images and press the Select soft key or the key.
81 •E d i t i m a g e : allows y ou to choo se a new photog raph for an outgoing message. • Delete : allows you to delete the se lected photo or multi ple photos. • Move to memor y card : allows you to m ove the Se lected or Multip le sound(s) to th e Memory card.
Fun & Apps 82 Downloaded images This menu allows you to access your downloaded images on yo ur phone or on the memor y card. 䊳 Scroll to the ima ge you want to vi ew and press the Options soft key to access the f ollowing options : • Download new : opens you r web browser where you c an downl oad new imag es.
83 Videos In this menu, you can view the list of videos downloaded from the web ser ver or received in picture messa ges. Y ou can also view a video sa ved to your Videos fo lder or memory card.
Fun & Apps 84 Videos The Videos opti on displays a list of videos s t ored in your V ideos folder . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Files ➔ Vi de os and press the Select soft key or the key .
85 Music In this menu you can review the Musi c you’ve downloaded or you can view musi c stored on the memor y card. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Files ➔ Music and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight Music or Memor y card and press the Select soft key or th e key .
Fun & Apps 86 • Move to me mory ca rd : allows you to mo ve the sel ected file o r multiple files to the Memory card. • Copy to memor y card : allows you to copy the selected file or mu ltiple fi les to the Memor y card. •R e n a m e : allows you to change the name of the sel ected file.
87 2. Highlight the My Games option and press the Select soft key or the key . When you access the Gam es menu, the list of default games di splays. Once you do wnload new games, they are then added to the list. Browse Ga mes Y ou can download more games from the T -Mobile website by using the Browse Game s option.
Fun & Apps 88 Music Player Y ou can ad d music file s, or play music stored in your playlist. Important!: Before you can play music you must organize a playlist. For more information, refer to “Creating a Playlist” on page 89. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Music player and pres s the Select soft key or the key .
89 Creat ing a Play lis t Before music can be played di rectly via the Music Player , it is necessar y that the desired playli st be active before music is added. Unless ot herwise selected, Pl aylist 1 is the defaul t playlist wh en new music is added from either the phone or memor y card.
Fun & Apps 90 Organ izer The Organizer al lows you to set alarms, schedule a ppointments, vi ew the calendar , create T asks, create No tes, perform simple math cal culations, calculate tips, check wo rld time, perform unit conversi ons, set a timer , and use a stopwatch.
91 Section 10: Organizer This section outlines the va rious applica tions tha t are availa ble on your phone. Organizer The Organizer allows you to set alarms, schedule a ppointments, view the calendar , create T asks, perform simp le math calculations, chec k worl d time, perform unit conv ersions, set a timer , and use a stopwatch.
Organizer 92 8. Press the Down key to highlight the Alarm tone optio n. Press the key to display a list of Basic alarm tones. Tip: Press the Left or Right Navigation key to toggle to Default melodies, Voice list, Sounds, or Music. Any of these tones or melod ies can be used as the alarm tone.
93 When you sel ect the Calendar menu, the following op tions are avai lable: Month view When you select t his option, the calendar displays the sele cted month with today’ s date highlighted.
Organizer 94 Day view When you select this opti on, the Day view displays the sele cted day with any eve nts listed. 1. Press Options to v iew the following options: •C r e a t e n e w : allows yo u to create a Schedule, Anniversar y , Miscell aneous, or T ask.
95 5. Press Save . Y our Anniversary informat ion saves to the Calendar . Miscellaneous This option allo ws you to record miscel laneous dates or events in your calenda r . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Organizer ➔ Calendar ➔ Miscellaneous and press the key .
Organizer 96 Memor y status This menu item shows the numbe r of calendar events you presently have and how many more you memory space for . It displays your events such as Sc hedule, Anniversary , and Miscellaneous.
97 Notes This option all ows you to create notes to add to your events. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Organizer ➔ Notes and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Press OK to create a new note. A blank Notes screen displays. 3.
Organizer 98 Tip calculator This feature provides the percentage amount for ti p. Use the following pro cedures to calculate a tip am ount. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Or ganizer ➔ Tip calculator an d press the Select soft key or the key .
