Getting Started 7 Section 1: Getting Sta r ted This section explains how to ge t started with your device by installing and charging the battery and optional memory card, and setting up your voice mail. Before using your phone for the firs t time, you’ll need to install and charge the battery .
8 Special T ext Throughout this manual, you’ll find text that is set apart from the rest. These are intended to point out important informa tion, share quick methods for activating featur es, to define terms, and more.
Getting Started 9 Bat ter y Cov er The batter y and SD card are installed under the batter y cover . Important! Before removing or replacing the ba ttery cover , make sure the device is s witched off. T o turn the device off, hold down , then tap Powe r o ff ➔ OK .
10 T o replace the batter y cover: Position the battery cover over the battery compartm ent and press down until you hear a click. Release Latch.
Getting Started 11 Installing the microSD Memory Car d Y our device supports an optional (externa l) microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory card fo r st orage of media such as music, pictures, video and other files. The SD card is designed for use with this mobile phone and other devices.
12 R emo ving the microSD Memor y Car d 1. Remove the batter y cover . 2. Firmly press the card in to th e slot and release it. The card should pop partiall y out of the slot.
Getting Started 13 Initial De vice Configuration 1. Select a language from the ass ociated field. English is the default language. 2. Ta p Start . Note: If you have not alread y setup ser vice, tap Skip and set up both a Wi-Fi c onnection and configure the Date and T ime settings.
14 Switching the De vice On or Of f Once the devic e has been configure d , you will not be prompted with setup screens again. 1. Press and hold ( Pow er/Lock ) until the device switches on. The device searches for your ne twork an d after finding it , you can make or receive calls.
Getting Started 15 Creating a New Google Account Y ou should create a Google ™ Account when you fir st use your device in order to fully ut ilize the function ality . This account provides access to several device features such as Gmail , Google Maps, Google Search, and the Play Store ™ applications.
16 T o create a new Goo gle Account from the W eb: 1. From a comput er , launch a Web browser and navigate to www .google.com . 2. On the main page, click Sign-in ➔ Create an account for f ree . 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to create your free account.
Getting Started 17 V oice Mail Setting Up Y our V oice Mail Y our device automatically transf ers all unanswered calls to voicemail, even if your dev ice is in use or tur ned off. As soon as your battery is charged, activate your voicemail account. Important! Always use a password to protect against unauthorized access.
18 Accessing Y our V oice Mail Y ou can access your Voice Mail by either pressing and holding on the keypad. T o access Voi ce Mail using your phone dialer: 1. From the Home screen, tap and then touch and hold until the device dials voice mail. Note: T ouching and holding will launch V oicemail if it is alread y active on your device.

Understanding Y our Device 21 F ront V iew The following illus trations show the mai n elements of your device: The following lis t correlates to the illustra tions. 1. Headset jack allows you to connect a hands-free headset so you can listen to music.
22 2. Volume key allows you to adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the voice volume during a call. When receiving an incoming call: • Pressing the volume key dow n mutes the ring tone . 3. Menu key displays a list of options available for the current screen.
Understanding Y our Device 23 11. Proximity Sensor detects ho w close an ob ject is to the surface of the screen. This is typically used to detect when your face is pressed up agains t the screen, such as during a phone call. – While talking on the phone, the sensor det ects talk activity and locks the keypad to prevent accidenta l key presses.
24 Device Display Y our display provides informa tion about the device’ s status, and is the interface to manage fea tures. It indicates your connection status, signal strength, battery status and time.
Understanding Y our Device 25 Display settings In this menu, you can change va rious se ttings for the for t he wallpaper , brightness, or backlight. From the Home screen, tap ( Applications ) ➔ ( Settings ) ➔ Displ ay . For more in formation, refer t o “Display Settings” on page 222.
26 Displays when you have missed an inco ming call. Displays when the microphone is muted. Displays your current ba ttery charge level. Icon shown is fully charged. Displays your batter y is currently chargin g. Displays your current ba ttery charge level is low (Charge: ~35% - 16%).

30 Notification Bar The Notification area indica tes new message ev ents (data sync status, new messa ges, calendar events, call status, etc). Y o u can expand this area to provide more detailed infor mation about the current on-screen notification icons.

32 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using the applica tions on your device. There are initially five available panels, each populate d with default shortc uts or applic ations.
Understanding Y our Device 33 • Status area displays those icons associa ted with the status of the devi ce such as communica tion, covera ge, Bluetooth, 3G , Wi-Fi communication, battery levels, GPS, etc.

38 Camera Launches the built-in 3.0 megapixel camer a application from where you can take a picture with either the front or rear facing cameras. Note: A microSD card is no longer needed to take pictures o r shoot video sinc e there i s alrea dy 2.7GB of available on-boa rd storage.

For mo re information, refer t o “Downloads” on page 163. Email Provides access to both your Outlook (Exchange Server-based) work email and Internet email accounts (such as Gmail and Y ahoo! Mail).
40 Google + : This applica tion makes messaging and sharing with your friends a lot easier . Y ou can set up Circles of friends, visit the Stream to get upda tes from your Circles, use Messenger for fast messa ging with everyone in your Circles, or use Instant Upload to automatically upload videos and photos to your own private album on Google+.

42 Peo p le The default storage loca tion for saving phone numbers to your list of Contacts is your device’ s built-in memory . For mo re information, r efer to “People” on page 177. Phone Allows you to launch your on-screen dialer and make a call.
Understanding Y our Device 43 Play Music (Goo gle Music) Launches the built-in Google Music P layer that allows you to play musi c files that you ha ve both downloaded from Google Mu sic and stored on your microSD card. For mo re information, refer t o “Play Music” on page 179.
44 Ta l k Launches a Web-based Google T alk application that lets you chat and video conference with family and friends over the Internet for free . For mo re information, refer to “T alk” on page 184.
Understanding Y our Device 45 Screen Navigation Using the touch screen display and the keys, you can na vigate the features of your device and enter characters. The follo wing conventions are used in this manu al to describe the navigation action in the procedures.
46 • Ta p : Use a brief touch to select items on the display or to enter text on the virtual QWERTY keyboard. For example: tap an Application icon to open the applic ation. A light touch w orks best. • T ouch and hold : T ouch and hold an icon or key to open the available options, or to access a pop- up menu.
Understanding Y our Device 47 Menu Navig ation Y ou can tailor the device’ s range of functions to fit your needs us ing both menus and applications. Menu s, sub-menus, and features are accessed by scrolling through the av ailable on-screen menus. Y our device default s with two screens.

Understanding Y our Device 49 Customizing the Screens Y ou can customi ze the Ho me screens (panels) to display the Widgets, Shortcuts, or Wallpapers. For example, one screen could contain the Music Player shortcut and other forms of media, while another screen might contain communica tion apps such as Gmail.
50 T o remove a current primary shortcut: 1. From the Home screen, touch and hold a current shor tcut from the primary shortcut area. 2. In a single motion, detach it fro m the area and then drag it over the X Remove area at the top of the screen. 3. Once the text t urns red, let go the shor tcut.
Understanding Y our Device 51 4. Scroll across the scree ns and locate your de sired applica tion. 5. T ouch and hold the on-screen icon. The new shortcut then appears to hover ove r the current screen. 6. While still holding the on-screen i con, position it on the current screen.
52 T o remove a Widget: 1. T ouch and hold a Widg et until it unlocks from the c urrent screen. 2. Drag the Widget over the X Remove text at the top of the screen and release it. • As you place the Widget into this tra sh area, both items turn red. • This action doesn’t de lete the Widget, it just rem oves it from the current screen.

From the Choose wallpa per from window select a Wallpaper option: • Ta p Gallery to select from a user imag e stored in the camera image gallery , crop the image, and tap CROP . • Ta p Live wallpapers to select from a list of anim ated backgrounds, once done tap Set wallpaper .
54 Section 3: Memor y Car d Y our device lets you use a microSD (SD) or microS DHC card (also referred to as a memor y card) to expand a vailable memory space. This secure digital card enables you to exchange images, music, and data between SD-com patible devices.
Memory Card 55 microSD Icon Indicator s The following icons sho w your micr oSD card connection status a t a glance: Importa nt! DO NOT remove a microSD card while t he device is accessing or transferring fi les. Doing so will result in loss or damage of data.
56 Mounting the SD Card T o store photos, music, videos, and other a pplications. Y ou must mount (install) the SD card prio r to use. Mounting t he SD card establishes a USB connection with your computer . 1. Press ➔ and then tap System settings ➔ Storage .
Memory Card 57 6. T o disconnect the new drive, simpl y remove the USB cable from your device. Unmounting the SD card Unmounting the SD card prevents corruption and damage to the SD card while removing it from the slot . 1. Press ➔ and then tap System settings ➔ Storage .
58 Factor y Data Reset From this menu you c an reset your phone and sound settings t o the factor y default setti ngs. 1. Press ➔ and then tap System settings ➔ Back up & reset .

60 Quick Dialing a Number from the Contacts List 1. From the Home screen, tap ( Peo p le ). 2. Locate a contact from the list. 3. In a single motion, touch and drag your finger over the number by going to the right. This action places a call to the recipient.
Call Functions and Contacts List 61 Ending a Call Briefly tap key to end the call. Note: T o redial a recent number , loca te the number from the Logs list, tap the entry and tap Call xxx . Ending a Call from the Status Bar 1. From an active call, you can launch a separate a pplication or return to th e Home screen.
62 Making an Emer gency Call W ith Ser vice The Emergency calling mode makes redialing an emergenc y number a 1-tap process. Before you can resume nor mal calling operations, you should first exit this mode. 1. Swipe the Lock screen to unlock the device.

64 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call image. The caller's phone number , picture, or name i f stored in Contacts List, displays. At the incoming call screen: • T ouch and slide in any direction to answer the call.
Call Functions and Contacts List 65 Using V oice Dialer Voice dialer is a voice recognition software used to activate a wide variety of functions on your device.
66 Inter national Calls 1. From the Home screen, tap and then touch and hold until the device shows “+” on-scr een. 2. Use the on-screen keypad to enter the country code, area code, and phone number . 3. If you make a mistake, tap once to delete a single digit.
Call Functions and Contacts List 67 Wait Dialin g Inserting a Wait into your dialing sequence means that the pho ne waits until it hears a dial tone before proceeding with t he next sequence of numbers. 1. From the Home screen, tap and use the on-screen keypad to enter the phone number .
68 In Call Options Y our phone provides a num ber of features that are a vailable for use during a call. Adds a Activates or Deactivates Ends the call Mutes or Unmutes the call speakerphone Call durat.
Call Functions and Contacts List 69 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use the Volume keys on the left side of the phone, to adjust the earpiece volume. Press the Up volume key to increase the volume level and the Down volume key to decrease the level.
70 Multi-P ar ty calls Making a Multi-Par ty Cal l A multi-party call is a network ser vice that allow s multiple people to participate in a multi-party or conference call. For further details about subscrib ing t o this service, contact T racFone customer service.
Call Functions and Contacts List 71 Call Wa iting Y ou can answer an incoming call while you ha ve a call in progress, if this service is supported by the network and you have previously activated your Call waiting option. Y ou are notified of an incoming call b y a call waiting tone.
72 Call Log T ab The Call log tab is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entries) for calls you placed, accepted, or missed. The Call log tab mak es redialing a number fast and easy .

Entering T ext 75 Section 5: Entering T ext This section describes ho w to select the desired text inpu t method when entering characters into your phon e. This section also describes the predictive text entry system that reduces the amount of key strokes associated with ente ring text.

82 Using XT9 Predictive T ext XT9 is a predictive text system tha t has next-letter prediction and regional error correction, which co mpensa tes for users pressi ng the wrong keys on QWERTY keyboards. 1. Press ➔ and then tap System settings ➔ Language & input ➔ (a djacent to the Samsung keyboard field).
Entering T ext 83 • Auto-appe nd automatically adds predictio ns to the word you are typi ng. (A blue check mark indicates the fe ature is enabled.) • Auto-substitution allows the device to autom atically recommend an alternative set of words as y ou type.
84 Using the Google V oice Typing This feature uses Google voice r ecognition to convert your spoken words into on-screen text. Configure Googl e V oice Typing 1. Press ➔ and then tap System settings ➔ Language & input ➔ (a djacent to the Google voice typing field).

From a screen where you can enter text, in a single motion, touch and drag the Status bar down to the bottom of the screen, then select ( Select input method ) ➔ Google voice typing . 2. Speak into the device’ s microphone and watch your text being entered on-screen.
86 Section 6: Contacts This section explains how to use a nd manage your Contacts List. Y ou can save phone numbers to your phone’ s memory . Accounts From the A ccounts menu you decide if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data at any given time, or if you want the applications t o synchronize au tomatica lly .
Contacts 87 Contacts List Creating a Contact Note: Contact lists are stored via email accounts. Y ou must ha ve an email account to back up your Co ntact entries online. If existing Google and Corpora te email accounts have been synchronized to your phone, these will be made a vailable to your device during the creation of new entries.
88 Note: If you have not alread y set up an online account (ex: Gma il or Email), a popup screen allows you to create a local Contact or sign into an account. If you select Create a new contact , you are prompted to either keep the Co ntact s tored locallay on the phone ( Keep local ) or add an online account.

Contacts 91 Finding a Contact Y ou can store phone numbers and their co rresponding names onto an external location ( such as G oogle or Exchange). They are all physically separa te but are used as a single entity , called Contacts. 1. From the Home screen, tap ( Peo p le ).

96 Contact Entr y Options 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. T ap an entry to r eveal the Contact entr y’s Overview Screen . This screen contains Name, contact numbers, email, and linked contact information. 3. Press to reveal the context me nu specific to this entry: •E d i t : allows you to edit the cur rently selected Contacts entry .
Contacts 97 Marking a Contact as Default When you use applications such as the Voice Dialer or other messaging type applica tions, the application needs to kno w which information is primary (default) in a contact entry list.
98 Copying Contact Inf or mation Copying Contact Infor mation to the m icroSD Car d Note: These must be contacts stor ed on the phone, Google, or Exchange. 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. From the Contacts List , press and then tap Import/export ➔ Export t o storage .
Contacts 99 Synchronizing Contacts Syncing data from your managed accounts allows you to add and manage a new or e xisting contact from your online or remote accounts to your phone. Prior to syncing, you must first have an active Google or Microsoft Exchan ge account with current Contact entries, and be signed into your ac count via the phone.
100 Display Options The Display options menu allows you t o allows you to choose which contacts to display . Y ou can also choose to display o nly contacts that have phone numbers. Note: Once a display filter has be en selected, only those Contact entries are shown until the All contact s option is re-selected.
Contacts 101 Adding more Contacts via Accounts and Sync When you synchronize applicatio ns such as a corpor ate email account, Email, or Google, usin g the Accoun ts and sync option synchronizes the data fro m the selected account type with your Contacts list.
102 Additional Contact Options Sending an Email to a Contact Note: Contacts must contain and email account and ad dress before you can use the Send email feature. 1. From the Home screen, tap and select an entry . 2. Locate the Email area of the entr y and tap their email a ddress.
