Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: (on the right s ide of the phone) When pre ssed an d held, turns t he camer a capture mode on. In capture mode, works as a camera shutter . Area Description First line Displays v arious icons.
Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of a service area. When it displays, you cannot make or receive calls. Appears when you have new or unchecked voice messag es.
Your phone 15 Appears when you are connected to a GPRS-enabled network. Appears when the call diverting f eature is activated. When your SIM card suppo rts ALS (Alternat e Line Service), this icon may appear with t he number 1, 2, or both. For exam ple, , , or .
Your phone 16 Backlight The display and the k eypad are illuminated by a backli ght. When you pre ss any key , the backl ight illuminates. It turns off if you d on’t press any key withi n a given per iod of time , depend ing on the Backlight menu optio n.
Your phone 17 Plug-in speaker With the plug-in speaker , you can hear sounds more loudly . T o use it, take off the cover and then conne ct the plug-in speaker to the ear-microphone jack at the right side of the phone. Built-in antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna.
18 Getting started Inserting/Removing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and so on. • K eep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small ch ildren.
Getting started 19 Removing the SIM card T o re move th e S IM ca rd, sl i de it ou t, as sho wn , a nd remove it from the sock et. Installing/Removing/Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use only approv ed batteries and chargers.
Getting started 20 2. Press the battery against the back of the phone until it clicks int o place. Removing the battery 1. Switch off the phone by pressing and ho lding the key . 2. T o remov e the battery , push the battery catch and hold it in that position.
Getting started 21 Charging the batter y by using the travel adapter Note : The phone can be used whi le the battery i s being charged, but this causes the battery to charge mo re slowly . 1. Plug the travel adapte r connector i nto the jack at the bottom of the phone.
Getting started 22 3. When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter from the pow er outlet and from the phone by pressing the grey tab s on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting started 23 Switching the phone on or off T o switch the phone o n: 1. Hold down the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the OK soft key . Fo r further details, see page 192. The phone searches for your network and the current date and tim e a ppear on the displa y .
Getting started 24 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allows you to customise your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft k eys marked and . Each me nu and sub-menu allow you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Getting started 25 T o view various functions/options av ailable, or select the one is required: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Getting started 26 Locking or unlocking the keypad Y ou can lock the soft keys, navigation keys, W AP brower key , volume keys and camer a key to avoid pressing keys b y accident. T o lock the keys, slide the folder down. Note: Be careful with your finge r when you s lide the folde r dow n.
27 Call functions Making a call Using the number ke ypad When the idle screen is displayed, en ter the area code and phone number , and press the key . Note: If you have set the Auto redial option to On , the number is redialled au tomatically up to ten times if the person y ou called do es not answ er , or the line is busy .
Call functions 28 Making an internation al call 1. Press and hold the 0 key for the international prefix. The + char acter will appear when the phone is ready for further input. 2. Enter the country code, area code and pho ne number and press the key .

Call functions 30 Ending a call When you want to finish y our call, briefly press the key . Note : If you select t he Continue o peration from the Down option in the Slide setting s menu, you canno t finish y our call b y sliding the folder dow n. Answering a call When somebo dy call s you, the phon e rings a nd displays the incoming call image.
Call functions 31 Adjusting t he volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use the v olume k eys on the l eft side of the phone. When you hear a sound, such as ringtone, you can also adjust the earpiece volum e. The adjusted volum e level will be tempor ary .
Call functions 32 Switching the microphone off (Mut e) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off so that the other person cannot hear you. Example : Y ou may wish to say something to another person in the room but do not want the calling person to hear you.
Call functions 33 3. Select the Find name option and press the Select soft key . The Phonebo ok entries are listed. 4. Enter the first a few letters of the name that you want to find. The Phonebo ok entries are l isted starting with the first entry matching your i nput.
Call functions 34 T o send the D TMF tones: 1. When you are connected to the teleservice system, press the Opti ons soft k ey . 2. Press the Up or Down k ey to highlight the Send DTMF option. Press the Select soft key . 3. Enter the number you wa nt to send and pres s the OK soft k ey .
Call functions 35 The phone turns on the voiceclarity feature automatically after a while when you are in a noisy place and the voicec larity is set to on. Turn on / off the voiceclarity 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the Voiceclarity on / Voiceclarity off option.
Call functions 36 Putting a call on hol d Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if this service is supported by the network. Of these two calls , one is active and the other is on hold and you can switch between the calls.
Call functions 37 Note : If you select the Continue o peration from the Down option in the Slide settings menu, yo u cannot finish your call by s liding the folder down.
Call functions 38 Making a multi- party call Multi-party call ing is a feature of some net works that allows up to six people to take part simultaneously in a multi-party or conference call. For mor e information, cont act your service provider . Setting up the multi-party call 1.

41 Entering text At many times while you are using y our phone, you need to ente r text, such as whe n storing a name in the Phonebook, writing a new message, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar .
Entering text 42 • Number mode This mode allows you to enter numbers. • Symbolic mo de This mode allows you to enter spec ial characters. Changing the Text Input Mode When you are in a field that allows char acters to be entered, you will see the text input mo de indicator at the bottom of the display .

Entering text 59 To type a word using the linguis tic dictionary (Forward Prediction): 1. Input the first char acter of the word you w ant to enter . 2. Y ou will see the word starting w ith the first character y ou input at step 1 in the W ord Prediction Bo x at the bottom of display .
Entering text 60 UDB (User defined w ord Databa se for Bengali) Every wor d you typed in Messages will be automaticall y stored in Bengali UD B. About 20 0 words can be stored in Bengali UDB. Every word in the UDB get arranged and updated by frequency of use and ne w words .
Entering text 61 Using the T9 mode T o type a word in the T9 mode: 1. Start entering the word by pressing keys 2 to 9 . Press each key only once for each letter . Example : T o enter “hello” in the T9 mode, press the 4 , 3 , 5 , 5 , and 6 key s. T h e w o r d y o u a r e t y p i n g a p p e a r s o n t h e d i s p l a y .
Entering text 62 The word is saved in the T9 dictionary and inserted in the input field. 3. Continue entering other words in the T9 mode. Smart p unctuatio n T o enter periods, hyp hens or apostrophes, press the 1 key . The T9 mode applies rules of grammar to insert the correct punctuation.
Entering text 63 Clearing letters and words T o clear the letter to the left of the cursor , press the C key . Y ou can clear all o f the letters on the display by pressing and holding the C key . Returning to the previous sc reen When the text input field is cl eared, press and hold the C key to return to the previous screen.

74 Phonebook menu The Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook : allows you to find, cre ate, or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management : allows y ou to create or remov e your own number , set up caller groups and check the memory status.
Phonebook menu 75 Changing the phone memory entries Scroll to the c ategory that y ou want to edit by pressing the Left or Right key . The following categories are av ailable and you can edit information for each catego ry by pressing the Options soft key .
Phonebook menu 76 Changing the SIM me mory entries T o change the SIM memory entr y’s information, press the Options soft key . The following options are availab le: Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has been stored for the selected category .
Phonebook menu 77 Add entry (Phonebook 1-2) Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the p hone memory and each name c an be associated with up to five numbers.

Phonebook menu 80 Dialling a num ber stored in the SIM card Once you have stored phone numbers in your SIM card, you can dial them easil y whenever required. T o dial a number stored in the SIM card: 1. Enter the number of the SIM card location w here the number you want to dial is stored.
Phonebook menu 81 Send all via infrared (Phonebook 1-5) Via the infrared connection, you can send your Phonebook entries to another IrDA- com pliant devices and vice versa. Note : This feature may not be available depending on the devices. Sending your phonebook entries 1.
Phonebook menu 82 Receiving phonebook entries from another device 1. Align the IrDA po rts on both sides. 2. Access the Infrared activa tion menu (see page 186) and se lect On to activ ate the port.
Phonebook menu 83 Delete all (Phonebook 1-6) Y ou can delete Phonebook entries selectively depending on the memory location, or all e ntries at once. 1. Scroll to a desired memory selection and place a check mark next to it by pressing the Select soft key .
Phonebook menu 84 Own number (Phonebook 2-1) T o store your own phone number(s) with a name: 1. Scroll to an empty location by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft k ey . 2. When Edit number highlights, press the Select soft key . 3. Enter your number and press the OK soft key .
Phonebook menu 85 Group setting (Phonebook 2-2) Y ou can change the settings of the ten predefined caller groups. 1. Select a caller group by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key . 2. Scroll to a se tting option b y pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key .
Phonebook menu 86 Memory status (Phonebook 2-3) Y ou can check how many names are stored in SIM card and phone’s m emory . When you hav e finished checking, press the soft key or the key to e xit. Service directory (Phonebook 3-1) Note : This feature may not be available depending on your SI M card.
87 SAT (SIM Application Toolkit) If you use a SA T card that provides additional services, the SA T menu displays. For further details, see your SIM card instructions.
88 Call records Via this menu, you can view: • calls you ha ve missed, received, or dialled. • the cost of your calls. • the length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in idle mode.
Call records 89 By pressing the Options soft key , you can also: • delete the current call record from t he list. • delete all of the calls. • paste the number into Phonebook. Dialled calls (Menu 2-3) This op tion le ts you vi ew the la st 20 di alled numbers.
Call records 90 Call time (Menu 2-5) This option lets y ou view the timers for call s made and received. Notes: • If your SIM card supports the AL S (Alternate Li ne Service) feature, yo u must first select the appropriate line.
Call records 91 The following options are availab le: Last call cost : cost of the last call made. Total cost : total cost of all calls m ade since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds the maximum cost set via t he Set max cost option, you cannot make any calls until you reset the counter .
92 Network services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provid er to check their av ailabilit y and subscribe to them, if you wish. Call diverting (Menu 3-1) Note : The call divert options ma y be different depending on you r SIM card and those not supported by y our network oper ator may not be shown.
Network services 93 Example : Y ou can divert voice calls to your colleague if you are already using the phone. Setting ca ll divertin g options 1. Select the type of call diverting by pressing the Up or Down k ey and then press the Select soft key . 2.
Network services 94 Deactivating specific c all divert ing options 1. Select the call diverting op tion to be deactiv ated. 2. Select the type of calls to wh ich this option applies. 3. Press the Remove soft key . The phone will send your setting s to the network and display the network’ s acknowledgement.
Network services 95 Cancel all : all call barring options are dea ctiva ted; calls can be made and received normally . Change barring password : allows you to chang e the barring password.
Network services 96 Deactivating s pecific ca ll barring o ptions 1. Select the call barring option to be deactivate d. 2. Select the type of calls to wh ich this option applies. 3. Press the Deactivate soft key . 4. Enter your call barring password supplied by your servic e provider .
Network services 97 Call waiting (Menu 3-3) This network servic e informs you w hen someone is trying to reach you during another call. Y ou can specify individ ual call waitin g options for each of the fo llowin g call t ypes: • V oice calls only • Data calls on ly (not av ailable when line 2 is in use) Activating t he call w aiting feature 1.
Network services 98 Network select ion (Menu 3-4) The Network selection feature enables you to automatically or manually select the network used when roaming outside your home area. Note : Y ou can select a network other than your home network only if it has a val id roaming agreement with your home network.
Network services 99 Caller ID (Menu 3-5) Y ou can prevent your phone number from being display ed on the phone of the p erson being called. Note : Some networks do not allow the user to change this setting. The following options are availab le: Default : the default setting pro vided by the network is used.
Network services 100 1. When Band selection displays, press the Select soft key . 2. Press the Up or D own key until the appropriate option (GSM 900/1 800, GSM 1900, or T riple band) highlights and press the Select soft key .
101 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound setti ngs feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ringtone, v olume and type for incomin g calls or messages. • sounds made when your call is connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode which your phone switches to when you hold down the key in the idle mode.
Sound setti ngs 102 Ring volume : allows you to adjust the ring volume. Use the Up and Down key s or the volume keys on the left side of the phone. T he more bars you see, the louder the volume. Alert typ e : let s you spec ify ho w you are infor med of any incoming calls.
Sound setting s 103 Vibration : the phone vibrat es but does not ring. Vibration then tone : the phone first vibrates and then plays the tone selec ted via the Tone option . Repetition : allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new message.
Sound setti ngs 104 Key tone (Menu 4-5) This menu option allows you to select the tone that the keypad sounds when you press a key . T o turn the sound off , select Off . T o adjust the key tone volume, press the v olume keys on the left si de of t he phon e in i dle mo de.
