Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phon e by first configuring your hard ware, activa ting your ser vice, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessar y to install both the ba tter y and SIM into their corresponding internal co mpartments.
6 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot. Installing the M emor y Card Y our phone also supports the use of a memory card (microSD™) for data storage of such things as data, music, pictures, and video files.
Getting Started 7 4. Press down until you hear a light c lick (2). Note: Make sure the batter y is properly installed before switching on the phone. Char ging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li-io n batter y . The T ravel Adapter that is used to charge the batt ery , is inclu ded with your phone.

14 Icons This list identifies th e symbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display and Indicator area: Displays your current signa l s trength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates tha t the Airplane Mode is active. Y ou cannot send or receive any call s or access online information.

T ypi cally , you wo uld ha ve t o exit from your current messag e, naviga te to the Idle screen, make your call (pa ge 21), af ter which you would have to go back and re-create your message.

Call Functions 23 Making a Call Using Speed Dial Y ou can assign a shortcut numb er to a phone number for speed dialing. 1. T o uch ➔ Address Book ➔ Address Book Settings ➔ Speed Dial . 2. The Speed Dial screen displays sh owing the numbers 1 through 9.
24 Quic k R eply Y ou can use the Quick Reply feat ure to send a text message to someone w hen you are not able t o take th eir call. T o use the Quick Reply feature, fo llow th ese steps: 1. At the incoming c all screen, touch and slide Reject + Message to the right .

26 Play a Video S hare R ecording During a call (while no t in a Live Vide o Shar e session) you can share a recorded vide o for the recipient . 1. T ouch More ➔ Vi de o Sh a r e ➔ Recorded and then select from the av ailable f iles in your Vi de o folder .
Call Functions 27 Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associa ted icons are displayed and can then be selected. 2. Scroll through t he list of missed c alls. 3. T o move to another call type, touch the call drop-down list (upper right of Calls page) and make your selecti on.
28 4. At the Create screen, touch the empty text field and use the keypad to type in a message. 5. When you are done with your message, touch Sen d . 6. 30 In-Call Option s During an activ e call there are seve ral functions av ailable by touching a corresponding onscreen button. • Speaker On/Off routes the phone’ s audio through either the speaker or through the earpiece. – Slide Speaker to On to route the au dio through the s peaker .
Call Functions 31 Switching Betw een Calls When you h ave an active cal l and a call o n hold, you m ay switch between the two ca lls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold.
32 Example: Y ou wish to say something to person in the room, but do not want the person on the phone to hear you. Note: If you are already in Video Share or you have a call on hold, you need to select Mute/Unmute. T o s witch the microphone off temporarily during a ca ll: 1.

Join the first two c aller s by pressing tou ching Join . •J o i n : combines you r current set of ca llers in to a singl e multi -party call (both acti ve and on hold ).
34 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text entry mode when entering characters usin g th e QWER TY keyboard -style keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the numb er of key strokes needed to enter text.
Entering T ext 35 Changing the T ext Input Mode The avai lable T ext Input modes are: T9 Predictive T ext , Numeric/ Symbols (123Sym ) , and Abc . Refer to the T ext Input mode in the upper right hand corner to iden tify which mode you are currently in.
36 Using T9 Predictive T ext Mode 1. T ouch the T ext Input Mode button at the botto m of the screen and touch T9 Predictive T ext . 2. will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. 3. Press each key only once fo r each letter . A list of word options displays and inc lude s a number indica ting the words available t o chose from .
Entering T ext 37 Using Numeric/Symbols Mode 1. T ouch the T ext Input Mode bu tton at the bottom of the screen and touch Numeric/ Symbols . 2. will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. 3. Press the ke ys for the nu mber s or symb ols that you want in your message.
38 Using Abc Mode 1. T ouch the T ext Input Mode button at the botto m of the screen and touch Abc Mod e . 2. will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. 3. T ouch each key on ly once fo r each letter . T o add a number or a symbol, you can change T ext Input Mode or you can press and then the key that corresponds to the nu mber or symbol.

50 A uto Screen Lo ck The Auto S creen Lock featu re locks yo ur phone when th e Backlight turns off. Press and hold the ke y to unlock the keypad . 1. From Idle mode, touch ➔ Settings ➔ Phone . 2. T ouch On or Off from the Auto Screen Lock field.
Changing Y our Settings 51 Lock Applications Using this menu, you can lock your applications and media contents (apps, messages, im ag es, and sounds) from being accidental ly accessed , altered or d eleted. Once you lock the contents, you must enter the pho ne’ s pass word to access the associated menus.
52 2. Enter the current phone password and touch . Note: Initially , the phone will not have a pass word assigned, and step 2 will not be necessary . Once a password is assigned, all steps are necessary . 3. Enter the new pass word and touch . 4. Re-enter the same password and touch .

Changing Y our Settings 57 Bluetooth Secure Mode When the Bluetooth Visibility is turned on, your phone is wirelessly transmitting its ph one name and status to every device within its range. This tr ansmission can pose a security risk and incite unauthorized connection to your pho ne.
58 3. T ouch . Network Pr ofile Configuration Y our phone is wirelessly connecti ng to the Internet via a built in WAP browser . Connection can be made via either one of three available W AP browsers: MEdia Net, A T&T MMS (MultiMedia Server), and A T&T IMS.
