Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes the first st eps to operati ng your phone. SIM Card Infor mation When you subscribe for 3G cellular network ser vices, you receive a plug-in SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, and available optional services.
6 3. Lift the batter y up and away fro m the phone, as shown. Instal ling and Remo v ing t he SIM Car d Important!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card, and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
Getting Started 7 Note: The angled corner of the SIM should be inserted as shown in the previous diagram. Improperly inserting the SIM can cause the phone to not recognize the SIM.
8 2. Press the batter y do wn until it clicks into place. Ma ke sure the battery is properly in stal led and not obstructing the SIM card before repl acing th e cover . 3. With the batter y in position on the phone , place the cover back on the handset and pre ss down until the cover is flush with the back of the phone.
Getting Started 9 1. Open the side sl ot and plug the connector of the travel adapter jack into the jack on the side of the phone. Note: The previous illustration is the correct and incorrect method for connecting the charger . If the incorrect method is attempted, damage to the accessory port will occur therefore voiding the phone’s warranty .
10 The Idle screen display s while the phone searches for your network. After the phone fi nds your network and displays adequate signal strength bars , you can make or receive calls. Note: The display language is preset to Automatic at the factory. T o change the language, use the Language menu.

Understanding Y our Phone 13 Ke y s The following list correlate s to the front view illustrations . 1. Flashlight : The flashlight allows you to see in dark places. 2. Main Display : This screen display s useful information needed to operate your phone.
14 12. Clear key : Deletes chara cters from the display whe n you are in text entr y mode. When in a main menu, press to return to the previous menu. In Idle mode, a q uick press o f the key displays the Calendar in Month view . 13. Soft key (right) : Performs the functions indicated by the screen text on the bo ttom of the display .
Understanding Y our Phone 15 The volume keys can also be used to scroll up or down to navigate through the di fferent menu op tions. This key is also used when th e Music Pl ayer is active. • If you ar e playin g music and the ba cklight goe s out, press and hold this key to gain access to the music player k eys.
16 Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays the level of your batte ry . The more bars you see, the more power you have remaining. Displays when the phone is a ccessing services in a GPRS network.
Understanding Y our Phone 17 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functi ons that can be customiz ed for your ease and specific needs. Thes e functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed usi ng the two soft keys. Each menu and sub-menu allows you to v iew and alter the settings of a particular function.
18 • My Account : provides you with access to a listing of your most recent purchases and available products and services. • Mobile Email : allows you to check your Y ahoo! ® Mail, AOL ® , AIM, Windows Live Hotmail, A T&T Y ahoo! ® , BellSouth, and other e- mail providers quickly and easily.
Understanding Y our Phone 19 Soft Keys The roles of the soft ke ys vary depending on the fu nction you are currently using; the labels on the bottom li ne of the display just above each ke y indicate their current role. Left Soft Key Some functio ns of the left soft key are as follows.
20 • Briefly press in standby mode to display a list of recent calls to and from your phone. • Press twice in standby mode to call the mo st recent number . • Press to pick up a waiting call. Navigation Key Use the directiona l keys on the Navigation key to browse menus, sub menus, and lists.
Call Functions 21 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a c all. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a ca ll. Making a Call When the Idle screen display s, enter the area code and phone number , and press the key.
22 3. Continue to enter numbers if desired. Tip: Y ou can create pauses longer than two seconds by entering multiple P pauses. Redialing t he Last Nu mber T o display the la st number dialed: 1. In Idle mode, briefly pre ss the key to view the Recent Calls menu.
Call Functions 23 Answ ering a Call When you receive a call the phon e rings and display s the caller’s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book.
24 Viewing Missed Calls The number of missed calls displays on the Idle screen. T o view the numbe r details: 1. Press the Vie w soft key . The most recently misse d call displays. Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected.
Call Functions 25 4. Press the Send T o soft key when you are done with your message. 5. At the Recipient List s creen, use the numeric keypad to add additional contact phone numbers, if necessary .

Call Functions 27 When you are enga ged in an active call and also have a ca ll on hold, you may switch between th e two calls. Switching call s automatica lly places th e second call on hold. T o switch between the two c alls: 1. Press Options soft key .
28 When the second call activa tes, these options are a vailable. • Swap : Places the active call o n hold and then re-activates the call on hold. • Join : Joins all of the established ca lls (both active and on hold) into a multi-party call. Press the key to end each cal l.

Menu Navigation 31 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an overview of all t he available menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu options are controlled by t he SIM provided by you r ser vice provide r .
32 4. Press the key for L anguage . 5. Highlight the Screen T ext field and press the Change key to display the list of available languages. 6. Highlight a language and press the OK soft key . If you select Automatic , the language will default to what is preset in your SIM card.
Entering T ext 33 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt input mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entry syst em to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
34 If you prefer the T9 Input Method, press the Options soft key and select Te x t M o d e . Choose your preferred text input mode. 2. After you have selec ted an input method, keep p ressing the key .
Entering T ext 35 If the word doesn’t display correctly , press the key to display alternative word choices. Example: Both “Of” and “Me” use the and keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first. 5. Insert a space by pre ssing the key and start entering the next word.
36 Key s Using the Symbols Input Method The Symbol input method enable s you to insert sy mbols and punctuation mark s into text. 1. T o enter symbol mode pr ess and hold the key . 2. Use the Navigation ke ys to select an on screen symbo l group. 3. T o select a symbol from that g roup, press the corresponding number key .
Understanding Y our Address Book 37 Section 6: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address B ook. Address Book entries can be sorted by name, entry , or group.

42 Y ou can assign up to 8 speed dial entries on the Speed Dial List and then dial them whenever yo u want by pressing and holding the associated num eric key . T o call an assigned speed dial number , in Idle mode, press and hold key 2 through 9 to speed di al the n umber assigned to tha t key .

Ser vice Number Using the Service Dialing Numbers Y ou can view the list o f Service Dialing Numbers (S DN) assigned by your service provider .
44 3. Select Message and press the Select soft key o r the key . 4. Compose a mes sa ge if you like, then pre ss the Send to soft key . 5. Enter a recipient ph one number in the To field and press the Send soft key to send the Business Card.

FDN Cont acts FDN (Fix ed Dialing Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, restricts your outgoi ng calls to a limited set of phone numbers.
46 • Phone : tells you how many Address B ook entries ( out of a possible 1000) are in use. • USIM : tells you ho w many entries ar e in use on your SIM card (out of a pos sible 25 0, depend ing on you r SIM car d).

Highlight the en try that you want to copy from the SIM card to the phone and press the key to pla ce a check mark next to the selectio n (or place a check mark next to Al l). 3. Press the Copy soft key . The contacts copy from the SIM card to the Phone’ s memory .
48 Section 7: Push to T alk (PTT) This section describes the Push to T alk (PTT) feature which allows you to contact your fami ly , friends, and co-workers (also using PTT) instantly . Initializing Push to T alk Ser vice 1. From the Idle screen, press the PTT key .
Push to T alk (PTT) 49 PTT Contact A vailability This section covers th e icons which appear next to indiv iduals and groups in your PTT Contacts li st indicating their availabili ty. Individuals Unavailable : This becomes your avai lability state if you power -off your phone, turn PTT off, or if the system detects you have move d out of coverage.
50 Groups Add Co ntact Note: The maximum numbe r of contacts is 99. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ PTT ➔ Add Contact and press Select soft key or the key . 2. Select Add Contact then press the Select soft key or the key . 3. Enter the name and number of your new contact and press the OK soft key or the ke y .
Push to T alk (PTT) 51 Disturb. A message i s displayed o n their Idle screen “Ple ase Call <X>”. Wher e <X> equals the nam e stored in their Contact List. Recipients can press thei r PTT key to return your call. •Q u i c k G r o u p : allows you to make a gr oup call without pre - establishing it in your PTT Cont acts.
52 – Rename : this option allows you to rename the group. • Delete : this opti on allows yo u to delete a group. Del eting a gr oup which yo u originated delete s the group from PTT Contacts fo r all particip ants. 3. Press the Select soft key or the key to access the highlighted option.

54 Note: When a participant accepts your invitation the group is now in their PTT Contacts and they may also place calls to the group. Important!: Y ou may have up to 30 groups in your PTT Contacts. Adding Me mbers to a Gr oup f rom PTT Cont acts 1. Press the PTT key .
Push to T alk (PTT) 55 Deleti ng a Gr oup Note: Only the creator or owner of the group can delete the a group. Members can only choose to leave a group. When deleting a group, all members receive a PTT Message that the group was deleted. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ PTT and press the Select soft key or the key .
56 R ece iving a PTT Call For th e best experience, your ri nger should be set to the highest volume. 1. If your status is Available you hear a PTT Ca ll t one and the caller's voice. 2. If your status is Vib ra t e A ll your phone vibrates and you must press Accept or Reject soft key .

Messaging 59 Section 8: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive different ty pes of messages. It also includes the fe a tures and fu nctionality associated with messaging.

Messaging 61 Creating and Sending Multimedia Messages The Multimedia Messaging Se rvice allows you to send and receive multimedia messages to and from other mobile phones. Y ou can send and receive messag es from email addresses as well. T o use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service prov ider’ s multimedia messa ge service.
62 • Contacts : allows yo u to insert addition al recipie nts from your Address Book by usin g your Up and Down Navigation keys to select those entries you wish to add. – Press the key to place a check mark next to those en tries. – Press the Done soft key to return to the message once you select the desired entry .
Messaging 63 Inbo x The Inbox stores received messag es. Y ou can tell wha t kind of message was receive d by the icon displayed. If the icon envelope is open then the message was rea d, otherwise a closed envelope displays.
64 • Delete : allows you to delete the Selected mes sage or Multiple messages. • Forward : allows you to forward the message. • Save to Address Book : allows you to save the recipient or sender’ s information from the message to your Address Book on either the Phone or SIM.

98 Section 12: Enter tainment The Entertainm ent menu offers both A T&T Music and CV (Cellular Video). A T&T Music is a music service which provides you access to Music Player , Shop Music, Music ID, XM Radio, Music Vide os, VIP Access, Community , a nd Music Applications.
Entertainment 99 Using the Music Player The Music Player is an applicatio n that can play music files. The music player supports files with extensions AAC , AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, WMA, 3GP , MPEG, MP4, and M4A.
