5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessary to i nstall both t he battery and SIM into their correspondin g internal compartm ents.
Getting Started 6 Import ant!: The plug-in SIM card information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. 䊳 Carefully slide t he SIM card in to the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place.

Getting Started 8 Inst alli ng th e Back Cov er 1. Place the ba ttery cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the edge of the ba ck cove r (3) until you ha ve a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone.
9 Although you can use th e phone while the battery is charging, doing so will require a ddition al charging time . Note: Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approxima tely 4 hours.
Getting Started 10 Switching the Phon e On or Off 1. Press and hold (on the upper right side of the phone) until the phone switches on. 2. Sweep your finger across the screen to unlock the phone. Note: The display language is preset to English at the factory.
11 4. A green checkm ark also appears next to the text that explains that you allows your location to be used for Google search resul ts and other Google ser vices. If y ou disagree, tap the check mark to remove it . 5. Ta p Next . The main Home scre en is displayed.

Understanding Y our Phon e 18 Indic ator Icons This list identifies th e symbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display and Indicator area: Displays your current signal strength. Th e greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates that the Airplane Mode is active.
19 Displays when your connection to a 3G network is active. Displays when your phone is communicating with the 3G network. Displays when your connection to an HSP A+ network is active. Displays when your phone is communicating with the HSP A+ network.

Understanding Y our Phon e 38 Memory Card Y our device lets you use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand availabl e memory spa ce. This secure digital card enables you to excha nge imag es, music, and data between SD-compatible devices. This section addresses the features and options of your device ’ s SD functionality .

Call Functions 42 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memor y . These entries are collectively called th e Address Book . For further details about the Address Book f eature, se e “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 59.
43 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Appl ication menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and init iate a call by t apping ➔ Keypad . From th e Dialer and the Contacts screen, t he following tabs ar e located at the top of yo ur screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on-s creen keypad.

Call Functions 50 Call Waiting The Call Waiting feature allo ws you to ans wer an incoming call while you have a call in progress, if th is service is supported by the network, and you must first ac tivate the Call W aiting feature : 䊳 Ta p ➔ Settings ➔ Call ➔ Additional settings ➔ Call waiting .
51 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters into your phone. Th is section also describes the pred ictive text entry syst em that reduces the amount of key strokes associ ated with entering tex t.
Entering T ext 52 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad la yout keys that will change t he on- screen keys within the QWER TY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .
53 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbols, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. Ta p at the bottom of the scre en. The follow ing screen displays: 3. T ap the desired number , symbol, or emoticon characters.
Entering T ext 54 Entering T ext Using the Samsung K eypad The Samsung Keypad is an o n-screen QWERTY keypad similar t o the Android Keyboard with several minor differences. 1. From the Home screen, tap Applications ➔ Settings ➔ Locale and text ➔ Select input method .

59 Editing an Existing Contact When editin g an existing co ntact, you can tap a fi eld and change or delete the informa tion, or you can add additional fields to the contact’s list of informatio n. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Contacts . Ta p t h e Contact that you want to edit.

Media Hub Samsung Media Hub is your one stop for the hottest movie an d TV content.

Multimedia 70 Using Playlists Playlists are used to assign songs to a list of preferred media which can then be grouped into a list for later playback. These Playlists can be created via ei ther the handset’ s Music Player options menu or from within a 3rd party music a pplication (such as Windows Media Player) and then downloaded to the handset.

Ta p ➔ Live TV . Note: The first time you use Live TV , you will need to download the application from the Market.

79 Pictures and Videos Im age View er Options After you ta ke a photo or s hoot a video, you ca n access various options from t he Pictures and Vide os Image Viewer . Available options are : • Share : offers several ways to share y our picture or video.

85 Photo Editor The Photo Editor application provid es basic editing fun ctions for pictures that you take on your phone. Along with basic image tuning like brightness, contrast, and color it also provides a wide variety of effec ts used for editin g the picture.
Messaging 86 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to send and receive different types of messages. It also includ es the features and fu nctionalit y associated with messaging.

Messaging 90 Deleting multiple m essage threads 1. From th e main Home screen , tap Messaging . 2. Press ➔ Delete threads . 3. T a p each message you want to delete . A checkmark will appear beside each message you select. 4. Ta p Delete . 5. At the Delete prompt, tap OK to delete or Cancel to cancel.
91 •A u t o - r e t r i e v e : allows the message system to retrieve messages automatically. •C r e a t i o n m o d e : allows you to select the creation mode, Free, Restricted, or Warning. – Restricted : you can only create and submit messages w ith content belonging to the Core MM Con tent Domain.

Messaging 94 Using Gmail Gmail is Google’s web-based email. When you first setup the phone, Gmail is configu red. Depe nding on the synchronization settings, Gmail is a utomatically sy nchronized with your Gmail account. Signing into Y our Gm ail 1.

97 WPS Button Connec tion The WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections. T o use WPS, the connecting device must support WPS and be compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security .
