12 Safety Seat s Both front seats are el ectric ally ope rated. On cer tain m odels the d river´ s se at is equ ipped with a mem ory func tion . To facil itate g etting into t he car, both s eats can be adjus ted when either of the front doors is open .

17 Safety Safety belts Three-poi nt inert ia-reel safety belt s are provided for al l sea ts. Resea rch ha s e stabli shed that it is ju st as dangerou s for re ar sea t passen gers n ot to wear their saf ety belts as i t is for fro nt sea t passen gers.
18 Safety Safety belt pr etension ers The belts of th e front seats are fit ted w ith automati c prete nsioners and force limiters. These are activa ted in the even t of a severe frontal or rear-end crash an d a side-on colli- sion, p rovided that the safety b elts a re bei ng worn.
19 Safety • Child ren who h a v e g ro wn ou t of a child seat sh ould b e rest raine d b y th e car’ s standard three-point belt s. Make sure that the shoul der belt is not in conta ct with the nec k or throat. If it is , a booster seat/cu sh- ion ma y be necessa ry .

21 Safety Safety b elt, rear se at Three-poi nt safety belt s are provided for a ll three rear seat pas sengers. Fasten the belt by pul ling out the strap care - fully an d ins erting the ton gue in the l ock.

29 Safety Lockable belt tongue In fit ting a child seat that is inten ded to be secured in positi on by the lap portio n of the safety b elt, make use of the locking function of the buck le. 31 Safety Integrated booster seat (access ory) The integ rate d booste r seat in the bac k is intended for ch ild ren wei ghing 33–80 lbs. (15–36 kg) a nd bet ween 38 an d 54 in ches (97 and 1 37 cm) tall. When se ated in the i ntegrated boos ter se at, the chi ld must wear the standard three-point safety b elt.

33 Safety Airbag The AIRBAG sy stem comp rises an ai rbag in the stee ring wheel, a front passeng er airbag and si de ai rbag s in th e fron t seat s. The sys tem s upple ments the pr otecti on provided by th e safety belts to furth er enhance th e safe ty of t he occ upant s.
34 Safety • Never rest your hands or forearms on the steerin g-wheel cen ter padding. • If the AIR BAG warning ligh t remains on after the car ha s been starte d or comes on while you are drivin g, have the car check ed im medi ately by an authoriz ed Saab dealer.

40 Safety What wo n’t tri gger the front airb ags? The airba g wi ll not be ac tivate d in a ll front-end cra shes. For instan ce, if the car has hi t so methi ng re lati vely soft and yi eldi ng (e.g. a s now d rift or a hedg e) or a sol id object at a low impact speed, the air bag will not nece ssari ly be trigge red.

42 Security Doors Door handles Pull the handl e t o open the do or. If the do or is s tuck (e.g . if fro zen), h old the handle f rom abov e to se cure a better grip. Central lock ing Key / Remote c ontrol The key uni t consists of a mechan ical key with int egrated remote c ontrol.

45 Securit y If the car is left with th e doors open, the inte - rior l ighting and t he co urtesy lights in th e doors will be sw itched off autom atically after 20 minutes, to prevent a fl at battery. In such cases th e electrically op erated seats w ill not funct ion.
46 Security Trunk lid lock, 9-5 Seda n The trunk lid lock is independent of the cen- tral-lock ing sys tem. T he trun k lid releas e switch o n th e driv er’s d oor is inope rative when th e car is lock ed from the o utside or moving at a s peed greater than 2.
47 Securit y Tailgate, 9-5 Wagon The tailg ate is not unl ocked whe n the other car doors are unlocke d. The tailgate bu tton on the dri ver’s door is inoperative when the car is l ocked o r movi ng at a spee d grea ter than 2.
48 Security Car alarm The ca r alar m (a nti- thef t syst em) is acti - vated/de activ ated wh en t he ca r is locked /unlocked by the rem ote control or by the key , see page 43. The ant enna for the ala rm system is loc ated in the c enter c onsol e.

50 Security Alarm signals When the ca r alarm is ar med, i t will be t rig- gered if an y door, or the trunk lid or hood, is opened o r if a wi ndow is brok en. The alar m will also be trig gered if an attemp t is mad e to by pass or sh ort-circuit the igni- tion swit ch, or to disconnect the battery.

63 Instruments and controls Speedo meter (U.S. speedometer shown) The speed ometer receiv es signals from th e wheel sensors in the ABS system. If the NIGHT PANEL mode has been selecte d, the scale wil l be illumin ated up to 87 mph (140 k m/h). Th e rema inder of the scale wi ll be ill uminated if the s peed o f the car exceed s 84 mph (135 km/h).

F og lights s hould on ly be used in poor visibi lit y con dit ions. Make sure you are familiar with the a ppli- cable provi ncial/st ate law regarding the use of fog lights.
75 Instruments and controls Wipers and was hers There are three inter mittent w iper po sitions. Moving the c ontrol stalk to the spring-l oaded position bet ween 0 and 2 will produce a sin gle sweep of the wipe rs. The wi pers ar e desi gned f or opti ma l clean- ing at all drivin g spee ds.
