3 Battery Installation T o install the batteries: 1. T urn the remote to the bottom side, pull on the tab and lift off the cover . 2. Insert the batteries, matching the batteries to the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery compartment. 3. Slide the battery cover back into place.
4 RCU900 The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) touchscreen on your RCU900 acts as a “virtual keypad.” This touchscreen makes it easy to program and use your r emote with many devices. Once you select a device key , you put the remote in that device mode and it will remain in that mode until you pr ess another device key .
5 Setup Routine and Procedures The SETUP key is located towards the middle of the RCU900 unit, on the right-hand side of the rubber keypad. The SETUP key is used to walk you through the steps in setting up the remote. T o enter the Setup Mode, press and hold the SETUP key until the LED indicator light remains on.
6 Device Control Screens Y our RCU900 displays different contr ol screens for each device. There ar e two screens needed to control each device. Y ou can easily switch between these two screens by simply pr essing the LCD SCREEN key at the top right of the touchscreen.
7 In order for the RCU900 to contr ol your devices (TV , VCR, DVD, etc.), you must program it with the library code for each device. This enables the RCU900 remote to contr ol your device with the proper commands. If your TV , VCR, DVD, or satellite receiver is an RCA, ProScan or GE brand, the RCU900 may not need any programming to contr ol them.
8 Library Code Entry (continued) T o enter a code directly from the Code List, follow these steps: 1. Manually turn on the device to be controlled (TV , VCR, DVD, etc.). 2. Press and hold the SETUP key on the rubber keypad until the LED indicator light remains on and the touchscreen shows the Main Setup Screen.
Code Search If the device you wish to control does not r espond to any of the codes you have entered using the Library Code Entry , you can search the entir e code library for a particular device that might not be listed in the Code List or might be listed under a differ ent brand.
10 Code Search (continued) that some codes can turn your device on and off but ar e not able to control its other functions. This process allows you to bypass codes you’ve already tried.
11 9. The Autosear ch sends the next code in the list every three seconds. Note: The Autosearch can take a significant amount of time, since there ar e many codes in the list.
Key Label Options 12 W ith the RCU900, you have the ability to customize individual keys and key label segments to meet your needs. It is recommended that the Key Label Options featur e only be used after you have finished programming all your devices.
13 4. The touchscreen now shows the Device Setup Screen. Pr ess and release the device key on the rubber keypad for the device whose keys you want to customize ( TV , VCR , SA T/CBL , etc.). The LED indicator light blinks once to indicate acceptance of the keypress.

16 Code Learning Codes from the Code List include basic functionality for each device they control. Once you have pr ogrammed in the library code for your specific device, you can customize the RCU900 touchscreen to include certain functions fr om your original remote that wer e not embedded in the preset code.
Learn Commands Now you’re r eady to have your RCU900 learn the commands from your existing r emotes. All Learned keys are saved automatically . Remember , only one original remote can be stor ed under any one mode. The RCU900 can learn the commands for one TV remote, one VCR r emote, one DVD remote, etc.
18 Learn Commands (continued) 1 1. T o save and exit from the Learn r outine, press and release the LCD OK key . The touchscreen r eturns to the Main Setup Screen. 12. The Learning process is now complete. 13. Press LCD CLEAR on the Main Setup Scr een to exit Setup Mode.
19 4. All Learned command entries are now clear ed for all device modes. 5. Press LCD CLEAR on the Main Setup Screen to exit Setup Mode. Smart Macro Key Operations Y our RCU900’s Smart Macro feature allows you to execute a sequence of commands with one keypress.
20 8. Macro Setup Scr een 3 now appears on the touchscreen. Pr ess and hold the key on the original remote until the LED indicator light on the RCU900 blinks once. This process takes 2-3 seconds to complete. 9. The touchscreen now shows Macr o Setup Screen 4.
Delete a Smart Macro T o delete a previously programmed Smart Macr o, follow these steps: 21 1. Pr ess and hold the SETUP key on the rubber keypad until the LED indicator light remains on and the touchscreen shows the Main Setup Screen. This pr ocess takes approximately 2-3 seconds.
22 Method 1 (continued) 4. Pr ess and release the numeric keys indicating the number of minutes (01-99) you wish to set on the Sleep T imer . The LED indicator light blinks once to indicate acceptance of the keypress and the scr een returns to normal operation.
23 The device you select for V olume Punch-through contr ol must be either the TV or the AUDIO/AUX device programmed with the Audio unit. Any other selection (VCR, DVD, SA T/CBL) is denied and the LED indicator light flashes to indicate an error . The power-on default for volume control is TV V olume Punch-through.
24 Keypress Beep Featur e (continued) 4. Press LCD CLEAR on the Main Setup Scr een to exit Setup Mode. 5. The Keypr ess Beep feature is now turned on or off, depending on the previous state it was in. LCD T ouchscreen Display Time Y ou can choose the length of time the touchscreen remains on after the last keypress.
25 Master Reset A Master Reset returns all the RCU900 defaults back to the original factory settings. The Master Reset clears all customer- programmed codes, Learned commands and Smart Macr os, and resets all key labels. T o perform a Master Reset, follow these steps: 1.
AUDIO FEA TURES (ACTIVE LCD KEYS IN AUDIO DEVICE MODE) AM.FM The AM.FM allows you to select the AM or FM band on your audio system. CD, T APE, TUNER, TV , VIDEO1 & VIDEO2 Use the CD , T APE , TUNER , TV , VIDEO1 & VIDEO2 keys to select the device you want to control.
MENU The LCD MENU key brings up the Main Menu. If you are alr eady in the menu system, press the LCD OK or MENU keys to select a highlighted choice. Use the LCD NA VIGA TION keys ( UP , DOWN , LEFT , and RIGHT ARROW keys) to move through the menu selections.
28 T roubleshooting PROBLEM The touchscreen does not show anything when you touch it or when you press the SETUP or LIGHT keys. The remote does not operate your audio or video devices. Y ou have problems programming a TV/VCR combination unit. Y our VCR is not recording.
